Best moment of the day?

"Definitely when the sun started to rise after a whole night of hiking to the summit."

What impressed you the most?

"The fact that miners are working day and night carrying over 70kg of minerals on their backs… so hard to watch them! "

Why do you have to wear a mask?

"Ijen has the biggest acid lake in the world. This acid is producing a toxic smoke that could damage your lungs if breathed in for too long."

@torresani_filippo's Top Tips

"Most people don’t know that this volcano is actually very close to Bali. You can simply take public transport from Denpasar all the way to Banyuwangi, the closest town to Ijen. "

Favourite time of year to visit Ijen

"The best time to visit the Ijen crater is between April and November as this is the dry season."
