Tour Overview

Marangu Route, commonly known as the Coca Cola route is more popular because it can be done in fewer days and has permanent sleep huts at the campsites. Summit night from Kibo Hut is steep and passes Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak. It is a shorter route with a steeper incline and less time for acclimatization it tends to have a lower summit success rate. This is the only route where the ascent and descent route is shared, thus creating more traffic.

Day 1 : Marangu Gate – Mandara Huts: 7K /Mi | 4-5 Hrs | Rainforest

Location: Mandara Huts

Accommodation: Hut

Accommodation Name: Mandara hut

Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner

Elevation: 1830m/6000ft to 2740m/9000ft

Departing from Moshi a 45-minute drive will take you through the Village of Machame to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. We will patiently wait for our permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for the journey ahead Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and quite slippery. We highly recommend gaiters and trekking poles here.

Day 2 : Mandara Huts – Horombo Huts: 11Km/3Mi | 6-8Hrs | Mooreland

Location: Horombo Huts

Accommodation: Hut

Accommodation Name: Horombo huts

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Elevation: 2740m/9000ft to 3690m/12,100ft

After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast, we emerge from the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, through heathland, looking for giant lobelias and groundsels. Continue up into open moorlands where small shrubs are the main vegetation. Stop halfway for lunch, to enjoy amazing views of Mawenzi. Arrive at the Horombo Huts late afternoon beneath the spectacular Kibo Summit viewpoint. Temperatures begin to drop.

Day 3 : Horombo Huts- Kibo Huts: 10Km/6Mi | 6-8Hrs | Semi-Desert

Location: Kibo Huts

Accommodation: Hut

Accommodation Name: Kibo Hut

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Elevation: 3690m/12,100ft to 4695m/15,400ft

After breakfast, we continue on through the dwindling heathland that blends into a moonscape as you enter the sweeping saddle connecting Mawenzi and Kibo. Here while we stop for lunch, and later when you cross this surprisingly large saddle, you can examine the summit climb up Kibo that you will be starting in just a few hours.

Day 4 : Kibo Huts – Summit: 4Km /2.5 Mi Up | 5-7Hrs | – Horombo Huts: 14Km /9Mi Down | 5-6Hrs | Glaciers, Snow Capped Summit

Location: Uhuru Peak

Accommodation: Hut

Accommodation Name: Horombo Hut

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Elevation: 4695m/15,400ft to 5895m/19,340ft
Descent to 3690m/12,100ft

Excitement is building as morning comes with an early start between midnight and 2 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.

We continue our way to the summit in a switchback formation through trying to stay warm and focused on the amazing sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. With a switchback motion, we ascend through heavy scree and possibly snow towards Gillman’s Point on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise during your short rest here. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From here on your remaining 1 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, you are likely to encounter snow all the way.

Congratulations, one step at a time you have now reached Uhuru Peak the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!

After photos, celebrations and maybe a few tears of joy we take a few moments to enjoy this incredible accomplishment. We begin our steep descent down to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch and a very brief rest. We strongly recommend gaiters and trekking poles for uncooperative loose gravel and volcano ash terrain. Well-deserved rest awaits you to enjoy your last evening on the mountain. Overnight horombo hut.

Day 5 : Horombo Huts – Marangu Gate – Moshi: 18Km/11Mi |6-7Hrs | Rainforest

Location: Marangu Gate

Accommodation: Hostel, Hotel

Accommodation Name: At your hotel in Moshi

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew, it’s time to say goodbye. We continue the descent down stopping at the Mandara Huts for lunch. Remember to tip your guides, cooks, and porters, since you will be leaving them here. You return back to the Marangu Park Gate and receive your summit certificates. As the weather is drastically warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy and steep and we highly recommend Gaiters and trekking poles. From the gate, a vehicle will meet you to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 45 minutes).

Fabulous and Memorable

Almighty Kilimanjaro took care of everything! They were responsive and helpful from the beginning as we planned our trip and took care of everything we could've needed from beginning to end. We had Patric and Lino as our head guides and Tom and Charles as our other guides. Ask for them! They were friendly, knowledgeable, and so much fun! They ensured that all of us got all the way to the top, even helping one of our group members through some tough altitude sickness. Their expertise at high altitude was amazing. Almighty Kilimanjaro took amazing care of us at every step of the way and gave us the experience of a lifetime on Kilimanjaro.

Perfect mt kilimanjaro climbing, with the perfect company!!

We did the 5 day Marangu route up Kilimanjaro with Almighty Kilimanjaro. They did an incredible job from start to finish. Everything was very organized and they went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed included arranging a doctor to come take COVID tests. Our guides were Innocent and Emanuel who were great the entire trip. I’m not sure if I would have made it to the top without their help. France is a great chef and made us plenty of food for every meal of the day. We really get spoiled because they stopped to give us tea several times during the hike. Be sure to rent the toilet from Almighty Kilimanjaro. Trust me…..rent the toilet. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Almighty Kilimanjaro again. After Kilimanjaro we did a 4-day safari with Fute. He was knowledgeable and helpful the entire time. We had a great time and stayed at some incredible accommodations! We can’t wait to go back to Tanzania and explore some other areas of the country!

Amazing Tanzania experience with Almighty Kilimanjaro

04-Jun-2021

Thank you so much Almighty Kilimanjaro! We started with the 5 day Kilimanjaro hike (machame route). Omari was an amazing guide who helped us through tough times. His team was so supportive with the luggage and helping us. The (vegetarian) food was great as well. We couldn’t have summited without the help of the complete team. After the Kilimanjaro hike we did 5 days Safari (incl Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti National Parks). Our guide fey was great and we were very impressed by his knowledge of the animals, nature and spotting. His good heart and character touched us along the way. The lodges we stayed at and food was of good quality. Thank you so much Almighty Kilimanjaro for making this such an amazing experience to see Tanzania. I would recommend Almighty Kilimanjaro any time.

Successful kilimanjaro summit

04-Jun-2021

Kilimanjaro trekking is a pretty hard activity that cannot be accomplished without proper planning and expert support. Almighty Kilimanjaro organized a 5 day trek using the maranu route for our volleyball team of 10 and it turned out perfectly. They attended perfectly to our needs and listened to our wishes making the climb experience pretty smooth. As the team captain I picked very important leadership traits from Inocent, the lead guide for our huge party of climbers and climb support crew. I cannot possibly draw fault to any aspect of our trek because our crew was experienced, very professional and fun to be with, we were provided with top class tents, sleeping bags and the invaluable chemical toilet. We really loved and enjoyed the food served during the trek! 100% summit success rate was a proud moment for our team! Almighty Kilimanjaro is definitely a perfect pick for Kilimanjaro trekking

Christimass on Kilimanjaro, New year on safari, Relaxation on Zanzibar

04-Jun-2021

This was a trip of a lifetime and I am so thankful I used Almighty Kilimanjaro to make it happen. I had wanted to hike Mount Kilimanjaro for my 40th birthday (December 22) and somehow convinced three hiking friends to join me in my endeavor. Having heard nothing but good things about Almighty Kilimanjaro from other friends who have used them in the past, I booked an 5-day trek to Kilimanjaro via the marangu Route, a 5-day safari, and 4-days on Zanzibar. I honestly cannot tell you which part of the trip I liked the best because each part was 1,000,000% worth it and AWESOME! There are so many reasons why I loved Almighty Kilimanjaro that I could not possibly write them all here because I've since run out of room. From the very start, they were so attentive and responsive to each and every one of my e-mails. We landed in Kilimanjaro (Moshi) on my 40th birthday and were greeted in the wee hours of the morning by the incredible Almighty Kilimanjaro staff who transported us to the Qwine Hotel. We got some rest, had breakfast, took a tour of Moshi with a Almighty Kilimanjaro tour guide, and met with our Kilimanjaro guides in the afternoon. The following day we set off for our 5-day trek. I cannot speak highly enough of Almighty Kilimanjaro throughout our travels everyone we interacted with were fantastic. Our guides on Kilimanjaro Fau and Salim were better than I have the words to describe. Patient, funny, knowledgeable, just absolutely incredible people. Our porters were out of this world and the next person who asks me what superhero I would want to be, I'm going to say the porters on Kilimanjaro. Amazing people. The trek was something I will never forget, traveling through various climates, circumnavigating the mountain over the 5-days, and finally (FINALLY) reaching the summit and seeing thee sign amidst all of the snow. Such a magical moment I really felt like I could cry. My only "critique" of the trek was the food... it was quite tasty to begin with but became quite repetitive by day four or five. I would check myself at every meal and ask myself what do you expect, you're on the side of a mountain! Moving on to the 5-day safari: we departed Qwine Hotel with our Guide Fute and saw so many animals I literally don't even remember them all! Highlights for me here was staying at the Serengeti Wild Camp located within Serengeti National Park. Just incredible to have an elephant walking through camp at sunset. Celebrating New Year's Eve at the Bouganvillea lodge was magical as well. Lastly, GO TO ZANZIBAR!!!

I recommend Almighty Kilimanjaro as the leading kilimanjaro climbing operator

04-Jun-2021

I have known Almighty Kilimanjaro since 2012 when I did my first Kilimanjaro trek and it was nostalgic going back to do the same Marangu trek with my son. Communication and booking was smooth, some of the main advantages of dealing with a renown and trusted operator. This round the trek was a bit tougher than my first time, good signs that I am no longer the energetic man I was some 30 odd years ago, however my teenage son fared better than I did. The crew led by Saidy was perfect and worth every penny we paid, actually I should have even tipped them more for their services. I barely made it to the summit from nausea and short breath but the thought of letting down my son kept me going, Saidy encouraged us to push one step at a time. When we finally made it to Uhuru Peak, I almost shed tears of joy hugging my son closely as I took stock of our achievement. I recommend Almighty Kilimanjaro as they are the leading Kilimanjaro trekking operator.
