Tour Overview

“Have you ever dreamed of setting foot amongst the colossal, snowcapped peaks of the Annapurnas? Alpine Ramble Treks can take you there! Our hike through the western Himalayas will introduce you to a region of astonishing diversity and beauty, ranging from steamy subtropical forest to the very edge of the Tibetan Plateau itself, where the White Mountains reach as far as the eye can see.”

Majestic Annapurna Round Trek -12 Days Summary 2022-23

The Annapurna Circuit Trek has been widely hailed as one of the best treks in the world, easily measuring up against perennial favorites like the Everest Base Camp Trek or Langtang Valley Trek. But what makes it so special? For our money, it’s the sheer variety of sights, sounds, and experiences that you’ll get to enjoy on this itinerary.

You’ll get a firsthand glimpse of Nepal’s remarkable cultural diversity as you pass through both Hindu and Buddhist villages. You’ll hike across multiple distinct climate zones, from the lush greenery of the Annapurna Conservation Area to the rarefied air of the high-altitude mountains themselves.

And you’ll even come across some unexpected geological attractions, like natural hot springs and the dramatic Kali Gandaki Gorge—which may be one of the deepest of its kind in the entire world.

Of course, you can’t embark upon the Annapurna Circuit Hike without anticipating the chance to soak up breathtaking views of some of the Himalayas’ highest peaks. And we’re happy to report that the Annapurnas never disappoint!

From the iconic fishtail-shaped Machapuchare (6,993 meters) to the soaring heights of Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters) and Manaslu (8,163 meters), the scenery here is sure to keep your camera clicking until your batteries run out.

The mountains culminate in the colossal Annapurna massif itself, which consists of six summits higher than 7,000 meters. The greatest of them all is Annapurna I, which sits at 8,091 meters and holds the title of the 10th highest mountain in the world. With views like these, it’s no wonder that the Annapurna Circuit Hike has enjoyed a stellar reputation since it was first opened to travelers in the late 1970s.

But with so much to see on the Annapurna Circuit Trip, you may wonder if 12 days will afford you enough time to enjoy everything there is to do in this part of Nepal.

However, you can rest assured that Alpine Ramble Treks has carefully developed our 12-Day Annapurna Circuit trekking itinerary in order to maximize your time in the mountains and ensure that you have the opportunity to experience the splendor of the Annapurnas to their fullest extent.

And if you’d like to spend more time in the mountains, we also offer a 14-day itinerary and a 17-day itinerary, which includes an excursion to the heavenly Tilicho Lake.

Conversely, you can also consider our Short Annapurna Trek itinerary to see the highlights of this region in just four days. Alpine Ramble Treks is eager to help you start planning the trip that best matches your needs—Contact us today to get started! We can always be reached via WhatsApp at +977 9851175531.

The best to for Annapurna circuit trekking

Trekking Seasons in Nepal are largely dictated by the summer monsoon, and our 12-day Annapurna round Trek is no exception. The monsoon typically lasts from June to August, and most visitors consequently choose to hike during the spring months of February to May or the autumn months of September to November.

These are the best times of year to enjoy the perfect combination of comfortable temperatures and clear mountain views. But you can hike in the Annapurnas at any time of year, and the snow-laden trails of winter are just as mysterious and evocative as the mist-shrouded hillsides of summer.

Whenever you choose to travel, rest assured that Alpine Ramble Treks will put together a trekking adventure that will surpass even your highest expectations.

Annapurna Circuit Trip 12-Day Difficulty

Our 12-day Annapurna Circuit program is one of the most popular and enduring hikes in the Himalayas. Most travelers in good health and reasonable physical fitness will be able to complete this itinerary without issue, and no previous trekking experience is required.

However, this trek does reach altitudes higher than 4,000 meters, and it’s important to drink lots of water and get plenty of rest in order to let your body adjust naturally to the increased elevation. As always, your guide will look after your progress and ensure that you enjoy a safe and rewarding trek to the heart of the Annapurnas.

If this itinerary isn’t quite what you’re looking for, Alpine Ramble Treks is proud to offer a host of alternate treks for you to consider. Travelers with extra time to spare will find our 17-day Annapurna Circuit Hike especially rewarding, as it includes a visit to the secret Nar and Phu Valleys, which have only recently been opened to travelers.

If you’re looking for a shorter trip in this region, you’ll want to check out our Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek or five-day Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.

Location: Kathmandu

After arriving in Kathmandu, you’ll find a friendly representative from Alpine Ramble Treks waiting to welcome you to the vibrant city of Kathmandu. We’ll get you checked into your hotel, where you can spend the remainder of the day enjoying some hard-earned rest. You’ll also have the chance to meet your trekking guide and learn more about the adventure ahead of you.

Day 2:Drive From Kathmandu To Besi Shahar (5-6 Hours)

Location: Besi Shahar

Accommodation Name: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our adventure begins in Kathmandu, Nepal’s buzzing capital city. From here, we’ll travel by road to reach the town of Besi Shahar, which lies about five or six hours to the northwest. This is an exciting drive that will allow you to enjoy the hustle and bustle of urban Nepal, the verdant greenery of lowland jungle roads, and the winding mountain passes that become more prevalent as we approach our destination. Upon arriving in Besi Shahar, we’ll get checked in at our hotel before enjoying the rest of the afternoon at our leisure. You can spend some time checking out the local cafes and restaurants, taking a stroll through town, or simply enjoying the divine mountain views from the Marsyangdi river.

Day 3:Drive From Besi Shahar To Chame (5-6 Hours)

Location: Chame

Accommodation Name: Trekking Lodge /Tea House

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we’ll venture further into the western Himalayas in an even more adventurous style! We’ll board a four-wheel-drive Jeep to make the drive to Chame. Our trip should take approximately four or five hours, and we’ll travel through many charming villages populated by people of Gurung and Magar ethnicities along the way. Before we arrive, we’ll make sure to stop for a photo opportunity at a striking waterfall cascading down the cliff face by the road. When we arrive in Chame, we’ll check-in at a comfortable local lodge with plenty of time for a proper look around town. The mountains of the Annapurna region loom close here in Chame. In fact, you’ll even get to appreciate unobstructed views of Lamjung Himal: a little-known but unequivocally spectacular mountain that rises to the lofty height of 6,983 meters.

Day 4:Trek From Chame To Pisang (4-5 Hours)

Location: Pisang

Accommodation Name: Trekking Lodge /Tea House

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today is our first day of real hiking on the Annapurna Circuit Trek. Our trail begins just outside of Chame, passing along the left side of the valley through a landscape characterized by green forests and apple orchards. We’ll cross a suspension bridge and make a steep ascent to reach a beautiful little village called Dhukur Pokhari, where we’ll stop to enjoy a packed lunch. When we’re ready to get moving again, we’ll pick up the path just past the village to continue onwards to Pisang. You can count on getting great views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, and Pisang Peak during this stretch of the trail. When we arrive at Pisang itself, you’ll see that the town is actually divided into Upper and Lower Pisang, separated by the Marsyangdi river. Make sure to explore both parts of town to appreciate the superlative mountain views and colorful local atmosphere. We’ll choose the best available trekking lodge or teahouse for tonight’s accommodations.

Day 5:Trek From Pisang To Manang (5-6 Hours)

Location: Manang

Accommodation Name: Trekking Lodge /Tea House

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our next day on the Annapurna Circuit Trek kicks off with a hike along a valley blanketed in sweet-smelling pines. We’ll stop at the village of Braga, best known for its fascinating hilltop monastery dating back approximately 900 years. If it’s open, make sure to take a look inside—there are some beautiful statues in the gompa’s dark interior, and the views from its roof are simply sublime. Moving on, we’ll ascend through more pine forest and cross several suspension bridges, with the rushing Marsyangdi river far beneath our feet. Our goal today is the village of Manang, where we’ll spend the next two nights for acclimatization purposes. After getting checked in at our teahouse, make sure to visit one of the local bakeries while you gaze upon the vast monoliths of the Annapurnas and Gangapurna.

Day 6:Acclimatization In Manang

Location: Manang

Accommodation Name: Trekking Lodge /Tea House

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Spending another day here in Manang will allow our bodies the time they need to acclimate to the high altitude before we plunge further into the heart of the Annapurnas. This is a great place to explore: the town is packed with scenic viewpoints and timeless monasteries—and there’s even a cultural museum! If you find yourself getting restless, we can also embark on one of several available day hikes leading to fantastic glacial lakes set against a backdrop of skyscraping Himalayan summits, including Gangapurna and Tilicho Peak. Later tonight, we’ll return to our lodge for a filling meal and a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow, our adventure on the Annapurna Circuit Trek continues.

Day 7:Trek From Manang To Yak Kharka (4 Hours)

Location: Manang

Accommodation Name: Trekking Lodge /Tea House

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today’s hike begins with a serious ascent. We’ll take our time, climbing past the village of Tengi and sharing the trail with lots of locals transporting horses and yaks. We’ll reach the village of Gunsang just in time for an early lunch; this isn’t a very busy town, but it’s a nice place to stop and enjoy the marvelous views of Annapurna II and Annapurna IV. Then it’s onward through little stands of juniper and across a few suspension bridges. We’ll continue to ascend as we approach Yak Kharka, but the grade is much gentler at this point. You may notice that our trek today was relatively short; this is because we are steadily increasing our elevation and need to ascend gradually in order to avoid altitude sickness. So we’ll stop in Yak Kharka with plenty of time this afternoon to relax before spending the night in one of the town’s comfortable guesthouses.

Day 8:Trek From Yak Kharka To Thorong Phedi (4-5 Hours)

Location: Thorong Phedi

Accommodation Name: Trekking Lodge /Tea House

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our morning begins with a slow climb across expansive alpine pastures teeming with roaming horses, where the shadows of high-flying Himalayan griffons glide across the ground. Soon we’ll approach a dramatic suspension bridge leading to the opposite side of the valley—although a smaller wooden bridge is also available for the faint of heart. However we decide to cross, we’ll soon find ourselves carefully navigating a rock-strewn slope on the way to Thorong Phedi. There are a couple of lodges here, as well as a handful of bakeries. We’ll get settled at our accommodations and then spend the rest of the evening resting in order to prepare ourselves for tomorrow’s ascent over the pass of Thorong La.

Day 9:Trek From Thorong Phedi To Muktinath Via Thorong La (7-8 Hours)

Location: Muktinath

Accommodation Name: Trekking Lodge /Tea House

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Are you ready for the most exciting day on the Annapurna Circuit Trek? This morning, we’ll be making our way up and over Thorong La. This is a thrilling high-altitude mountain pass situated at 5,416 meters in elevation. The views from the pass are sublime, especially with the spectacle of brilliant prayer flags snapping in the wind and contrasting with the windblown snow. In fact, heavy snows can occur here at any time of year; your guide from Alpine Ramble Treks will carefully assess the condition of the pass to make sure that it’s safe to cross. Our steep descent from Thorong La is no less dramatic, and we’ll take it slow in order to avoid slips and falls. Before long, we’ll enter the spectacular Kali Gandaki Gorge. By some metrics, this is the deepest gorge in the world, and it funnels water all the way from the Tibetan Plateau to the Ganges river. We’ll enjoy this fabulous scenery all along the path as we reach Muktinath at last. This town is an important site for religious pilgrims, and there are a number of temples and shrines to explore. We’ll spend the night in one of Muktinath’s teahouses to recover from our long day on the trail.

Day 10:Trek From Muktinath To Jomsom, Drive Bacck To Tatopani (7-8 Hrs)

Location: Jomsom

Accommodation Name: Trekking Lodge /Tea House

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We have another long day of hiking ahead of us today, but the terrain won’t be quite as difficult as it was yesterday. We’ll begin by descending through the Jhong Valley. This region is characterized by a particularly ancient kind of Buddhism; keep your eyes peeled for a number of historic stone cairns. The village of Kagbeni marks the halfway point of today’s trail, and we’ll stop here to unpack our lunches amongst the narrow streets and stone-built homes of this remarkably photogenic town at the edge of Nepal’s restricted Mustang region. After lunch, we’ll continue through the valley to a part of the trail where the wind blows with surprising force—be sure to hold onto your hat! We’ll arrive at Jomsom after hiking for about three hours from Kagbeni, and from Jomsom, we take a local sharing jeep/ bus to Tatopani (Hot spring)!

Did you ever expect to luxuriate in a natural hot spring while hiking in the snowy Himalayan mountains? The springs at Tatopani are one of the Annapurna Circuit Trek’s most unusual and charming features. To get there, we’ll take a local bus from Jomsom, which should take about five or six hours. This trip is a great chance to chat with locals as the lush forest landscapes of rural Nepal pass by your window. When we arrive, we’ll check-in at our teahouse before heading down to the springs just below the village. Spend as much time as you’d like soothing your tired muscles in the hot water before heading back up to town for a sumptuous meal and a good night’s rest.

Day 11:Drive From Tatopani To Pokhara (5 Hours)

Location: Pokhara

Accommodation Name: Hotel Panorama View

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We can afford to sleep in today, waking gradually to the gentle sound of birdsong—our hike on the Annapurna Circuit Trek is almost over, and all that’s left is for us to make our return to the city. Our destination for today is Pokhara, which will take us approximately five or six hours to reach by road. Pokhara is the adventure and travel hub of the Annapurnas, most famous for the sparkling waters of Phewa Lake. The city also enjoys superb views of Manaslu, Machapuchare, and the Annapurnas—so you don’t have to say goodbye to the mountains just yet. When we arrive in Pokhara, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the town at your leisure. We can arrange for some serious thrills, such as paragliding or bungee jumping—or you can opt for a massage and a drink to pass the evening in luxury and comfort. However, if you choose to spend the day, make sure to enjoy the sights and sounds of Pokhara before returning to our hotel in the city.

Day 12:Drive From Pokhara To Kathmandu (6-7 Hrs)

Location: Kathmandu

After savoring an early breakfast at our hotel, we’ll board a comfortable tourist bus to make the day-long journey back to Nepal’s capital city. Our journey follows the Prithvi highway, named after the country’s first king. This trip will afford you a unique glimpse of Nepal’s countryside, including rushing rivers, terraced fields, and rural landscapes of surpassing beauty. You’ll also get to rub shoulders with locals and other travelers—and now that you’ve completed the Annapurna Circuit Trek, you’ll have a story or two of your own to share. Of course, we can also arrange for a domestic flight back to Kathmandu if you prefer to travel by air. Either way, we’ll find ourselves back in Kathmandu this evening. We’ll enjoy a final farewell dinner and show at one of the capital’s best restaurants. When it’s time to say goodbye, we hope you’ve had a fantastic time here in Nepal. The only question is: which trek will you do next?

Please note: The trekking times indicated above are approximate and are best used as general guidelines. During the Annapurna Circuit Trek, you’ll be able to travel freely at your own pace.

Drinking-Water

As we all know, water is important for human life, especially if we are hiking in the Himalayas. We need to stay hydrated. We recommend carrying at least 2 liters of water (Bottle-Nalgene) bottles for the Annapurna circuit trek. You can get the water everywhere along the way. To buy a bottle of water costs anywhere between 1-3 USD per liter in the Annapurna region or another option, you can also find the normal water from taps or tea houses to refill with no cost but you need to purify it. For this, we recommend you carry some water purification tablets or an electric straw light.

Best Time for 12 Days Annapurna Circuit Trip

Normally, the best season and peak time to trek the Annapurna Circuit is in the spring and the autumn (fall); the temperatures are reasonably stable, and one can adjust to these temperatures even in high-altitude areas. These two seasons are the best time of the year when you can enjoy crystal clear views every day, and there is almost no risk of any sort of circumstances like an avalanche or landslide along the way. If you are considering winter, it is still possible that you will get fewer trekkers, but make sure to be extra prepared with more warm clothing gear. In the monsoon season, you need to expect rain and clouds in the sky, but views can still be seen in the evening and morning time.

    • What level of insurance should I obtain?

Travel Insurance is mandatory for all customers looking to travel in Nepal with the Alpine Ramble Treks. However, The Travel Insurance that you are looking at must cover both the medical and emergency evacuation costs. Somehow, we would like to recommend to our valuable clients that your insurance is worth a minimum of USD 100,000. The beauty of the mighty Himalayas comes with great risks. It is always best to prepare for any unforeseen risks that may arise while traveling in the Himalayas. There are many insurance companies that offer travel insurance services over the Internet- you can find them easily to buy at any time. There are a wide variety of insurance companies based in the region. Especially when it comes to trekking in the Himalayas region of Nepal, there is always a narrow chance of minor health issues, injuries, and most importantly – altitude sickness, etc. It is essential that you choose an insurance policy that covers the cost of the helicopter rescue from the mountains in case of major accidents and acute mountain sickness (AMS). During such extreme cases of emergency evacuation, a helicopter service is the only way out of the mountains. This includes a rescue team for both – ground evacuation and rescue. This is why we require your travel insurance to cover the cost of helicopter services and evacuation from the Himalayas (up to 6000m). It is always better to be safe than sorry.

    • Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness as known as acute mountain sickness (A.M.S.) in general may occur when people ascend too quickly normally at altitudes of over 2500 meters above sea level. Our company has been ensured the minimal risk of building in rest days into our trekking itineraries. When you are in a high elevation place most people will feel some effect of altitude, sleeplessness, shortness of breath, and possibly light-headed, which is fairly very common. Acute mountain sickness is very different and normally involves a severe headache, sickness and you can feel that loss of awareness. In almost every possible case there are enough warning signs to take appropriate action. Our company only prefers well trained and experienced guides, in field guide will advise you about any health issues and also altitude sickness while you are on trekking if you have any of this then you should tell to your guide our combine, then they will be suggested you have to use medication for Altitude sickness. Before leaving for the trip also suggest to any of our valuable clients to consult with your Medical Doctor and get advice.

    • When to travel to Nepal

he climate in Nepal varies with its topography and altitude; the climate is from tropical to arctic. Nepal has divided into three regions of Nepal (Tarai region, Hilly region, and Himali region). The low-land Terai region with its maximum altitude of approximately 305m, which lies in the tropical southern part of the country, for instance, has a hot and humid climate that can rise above 45 Degrees Celsius (113 Degrees Fahrenheit) during summer. The hilly region regions are pleasant almost all year round, although winter nights are cool. The mountain region, around an altitude above 3,300m, has an alpine climate with considerably lower temperatures in winter as can be expected. (Autumn) September, October, and November: This season is one of the best trekking seasons in Nepal which offers excellent weather and magnificent mountain views. All the trekking routes are will be very busy during this season. (Spring) March April and May: This season is the second premium trekking season. At this time the temperature goes quite moderate, but this season is especially the rhododendrons (The national flower of Nepal) are in complete blossom and the mountain views are excellent in the mountain region. (Summer)June, July, and August : The summer season provides the preferable season to trek in the rain shadow areas like the upper Mustang, around Annapurna, etc. these regions are out of reach of the rain clouds because of the huge mountains, and unaffected by the monsoon. This time is the best season for forest researchers and botanists, during this time trek raincoats and insect repellents are strictly required. (Winter) December, January, and February: The winter season in Nepal will be cold on high mountain trekking routes but still a suitable time for trekking and hiking at lower altitudes normally under 3000m high.

The greatest adventure of my life! We did the 12-day Annapurna Circuit trek as part of our honeymoon and it blew away our expectations. Our guide Lok, was first class in terms of his knowledge, experience and most importantly, enthusiasm on the trek. Our porter, Manchit, was phenomenal and the best on the trail…faster and stronger than all the younger porters. We would not have made it over Thorong La without them. Dil made coordination and planning a breeze and was a pleasure to work with.I would 100% recommend Alpine Ramble for your trek and please request Lok as your guide…he really is the best!

Alpine Ramble made this trip spectacular from the moment we we’re collected from the airport until the moment we we’re dropped off again. Every day was planned out really well and meant my partner and I never had to worry about everything except taking in the sites. Prashant and siree we’re an excellent crew. Giving us space when we needed it and being there to help at any time. We are already looking forward to our next trip with these guys and would highly recommend to anyone thinking about trekking in Nepal.

Travelling around many Country in the world, I have been glad to meet Dil in Nepal. He is awesome person with a great soul and made my visit very special here planning my journey in a great way. I trekked with Alpine team for 12 days on the Annapurna Circuit. It was my first trek and I’m so happy about, we successfully did the Torunga pass, from the green valley full of waterfalls, into the high mountains of the circuit, to the desert hills until the lake of Pokhara. All has been great, safe and enjoyable. The circuit is very amazing and my skilled guide Krishna has been very kind and helpful in everything, never rushing, always taking care during the trekking like a very good friend. Also the young porter has been a good fun happy for having him with us, my little bro. I would recommend to anyone would like come in Nepal for a trekking with them. I’m sure you will get great memories and the warm with Alpine, for me has been more than friendly and welcoming, they are now like a second family. I love them and I feel so thankful for what they have done. Namaste! I would definitely come back if I could and trek the Everest circuit still with my nepalese brothers, Dil&Co. Thank you guys from hearth.
