Since this bend in the Nile was a favoured spot for crocodiles to bask in the sun and threaten locals, it is natural that the temple would be dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god. But it is unusual in having a double dedication: it also honors Haroeris, a form of the falcon-headed god Horus. It is the largest temple complex ever built by man, and represents the combined achievement of many generations of ancient builders. 10 Days Cairo and Nile Cruise Holiday

13-Jul-2021

Egypt is a country full of history, culture and traditions and its astonishing monuments well deserve to be considered "wonders" of the ancient world. Even if I booked this tour at the very last minute, everything was well organized and smooth. I was accompanied by a guide in every interest place I visited (even if the enter tickets to the sites have to be paid as extra once you reach Egypt), while I was alone during the organized transfers (trains and cruise), and this allows the tour operator to guarantee the best value for money. The pace of the visits was adequate, giving me enough time to enjoy the places and to relax or to take optional tours. Just the timings of the cruise could be a little bit better (for example, we sailed from Aswan at 2 pm, arriving at Kom Ombo temple at 5 pm, when it was already dark; sailing just one hour earlier would have provided the opportunity to visit the temple with the sunlight), but I think it's not the tour operator that can define and change them. As a woman and a solo traveller, I felt safe all the time and well accepted in every place I visited. All the guides were punctual, well prepared and professional. Mac, the main organizer, checked on me every day by calls or wts to inform me about the tour plan, the eventual changes and, in case I needed anything, he was always available. Even the driver in Cairo, Mohammed, treated me very well, as I was part of his family. I spent the first day in Cairo, visiting the Egyptian museum and the Pyramids and the Sphinx of Giza. The guide, Gaber, was extremely competent and patient with my questions, the best guide I had on the tour. He provided me a good introduction frame about the history of ancient Egypt, thanks to which I could understand better all the following visits. For the trip from Cairo to Aswan (13 hours) and from Luxor to Cairo (almost 10 hours), I chose the sleeper train option, which I highly recommend to be more comfortable during the long train trip. In Aswan, I boarded the Champollion cruise, on which I spent 4 days (2 in Aswan and 2 sailing north towards Luxor), meeting a lot of other tourists from Egypt and from other countries. The cruise was modern and clean, the staff very friendly and all the meals were offered by buffet with a lot of different and tasty options. The only complaint about the cruise is about the wifi connection: to have internet on board you have to pay 20 usd for 4GB, but you are not informed that the connection doesn't reach the rooms nor the upper deck and it doesn't work during the cruise, but just when the boat is docked. It's much better and cheaper to buy a local SIM card! The guide in Aswan well explained the functioning of the High Dam and the history of the Philae Temple and Abu Simble temples (Abu Simbel was an optional tour, highly recommended!), while the guide in Kom Ombo and Edfu temples was definitely too fast in describing those suggestive places, leaving me not completely satisfied about the explanation. Once I reached Luxor, I finally met Mac, who took me to visit Luxor city and both the amazing West Bank (Valley of the Kings, Temple of Hatchepsut, Colossus of Mnenon and even an alabaster factory) and the East Bank (the huge Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple), explaining them in a very effective manner and even creating some jokes in order for me to remember as much as possible. I recommend this trip to all the people who want to explore Egypt in a well organized way and at the same time to be enough indipendent and free to have some little adventures by their own!

Egypt is a country full of history

Nile cruise was amazing

13-Jul-2021

The tour is excellent, someone was right at the airport to pick us up as soon as we arrived in Cairo. The hotel the first night was very very spacious. The all the guides throughout the trip were very knowledgeable and eager to answer any question. The Nile cruise was amazing and the food was even better. I highly suggest anyone thinking about visiting Egypt to come, COVID-19 has made many of the sites empty so it very easy to get some great photos.
