Pick-up and transfer to the Tariyaca Nature Reserve (B / L / D)
You will be picked up at the bus station upon arrival and transferred to our local office. Enjoy a homemade breakfast on our neighbour's small shaded outdoor patio and gardens before travelling up the Madre Dios River to your volunteer project at the Taricaya Nature Reserve. Taricaya is a 500ha protected reserve of rainforest and a non-profit organization with a research center for biodiversity conservation and sustainability. You will stay at the Taricaya Center and join the staff and volunteers in the daily activities related to the conservation of the Amazon Rainforest--the worldās most diverse ecosystem.
Day 4: Tariyaca Nature Reserve, Peru

You may be involved in activities such as working in the Wildlife Rescue Centre (housing animals such as jaguars, pumas, monkeys, and tapirs), Biodiversity Research, the Pilot Farm and Reforestation project, Animal Release Programs, Turtle Repopulation, and Centre/Trail Maintenance.
On one of the days of your program, you will have an early breakfast before travelling by boat upriver for 45 minutes to the entrance of the Tambopata National Reserve, where you will begin the trek to Lake Sandoval. Paddle in a rowboat around this pristine mirror-like lake and enjoy the beautiful scenery with the opportunity to observe a variety of wildlife such as the endangered giant river otter, howler monkeys, macaws and black caiman.

Arrival to Puerto Maldonado (L/D)
Upon arrival to Puerto Maldonado, you will be picked up at the bus terminal between 07:00 and 08:00 am. You will get the opportunity to have a botanical tour in a tourism corridor created by a famous environmental activist, Don Viktor Zambrano, who won the National Geographic conservation award for South America in 2019 and president of the Izuyama community. You will then head towards the office from where you will be transferred to your lodge.
Embark for a scenic boat ride (around 1 hour and 15 minutes) on the Madre de Dios River that will lead you to your accommodation and marvel at the incredible fauna and flora through the heart of the Amazon Jungle.
Arriving in your accommodation, settle into your bungalow, have lunch and get some rest before exploring the tropical jungle. You will first enjoy a guided tour of the surroundings and the beautiful botanical garden (1 hour and 30 minutes). Your guide will then take you inside the lush jungle where you will admire nocturnal animals after the sunset (1 hour). Enjoy a delicious dinner and have a good night's sleep.
Day 11: Taricaya Reserve, Peru

Explore the Taricaya Ecological Reserve (B/L/D)
After breakfast at 07:00 am, go exploring the Taricaya Reserve, surrounded by trees of more than 300 years old and learn more about the history and biology of the amazing fauna and flora through a guided tour. Continue through a suspension bridge that will lead will to the first 15 meter-high platform in the crown of an old fig tree (Avatar platform). You will then get the chance to reach the highest tree platform in South America, the impressive 45 meter-high Lupuna tree platform (Canopy platform). From there, get a spectacular panorama of nature and the birdlife like macaws, parrots, and toucans.
Continue your way to the Taricaya Rescue Center where you will admire a large variety of rescued animals such as jaguars, pumas, bears, monkeys, turtles,... After lunch, get some rest before visiting the botanical garden with the diverse medicinal plants. After the sunset, get the chance to participate in a caiman crocodile search along the river and get a beautiful view of the starry sky. Have dinner and get some rest in your bungalow.
Day 12: Tambopata National Reserve, Peru

Visit the awesome Tambopata National Reserve (B/L/D)
Start your day early at 04:30 am and have breakfast before heading up river (45 minutes) to the amazing Tambopata National Reserve. Get some incredible views of the ecosystem and marvel at anacondas, armadillos and many birds while you enjoy a 3 km trek to the Lake Sandoval. From here, you will embark on a rowboat, admire the pristine stunning lake and if you are lucky, get the chance to look at caiman crocodiles and giant river otters. After this great nature experience, you will do the 3 km trek back to the motorboat and return to the lodge for lunch.
Get some rest before taking off on a scenic inflatable boat ride and witness a splendid sunset on the Madre de Dios river. You will then enjoy a delicious Ayahuasca theme dinner. Your guide will show you demonstrations of this Ayahuasca plant and the famous brew made by the local shamans (there is no Ayahuasca taken during dinner). He will also explain to you the importance of this ceremony for the Amazonian people.
Day 13: Puerto Maldonado - Cuzco, Peru

After check-out and breakfast, you will leave at 08:30 am and say goodbye to the incredible lush jungle. You will return at 09:30 am and get picked up for the drop-off point where you will enjoy your last day. You will be offered many activities like a mountain bike tour, swimming pool, fishing, football, fruit farm walks,... You will finally be picked up at 07:30 pm to the bus terminal where your amazing adventure ends.

You will be picked up from your accommodation and head to Cruz Pata, a small village where the quad-bike adventure will begin. You will receive a safety briefing before starting off through the countryside to Moray, our first stop of the day. Spot at ancient Inca circular crop terraces and be amazed at the engineering developments of the ancient Inca. You will be able to connect with Mother Earth, (La Pachamama) and learn how the Andean culture lives in harmony with the nature that surrounds them. After receiving some explanations, you will be free to walk around. You will then continue your ride to the āSalinerasā, salt mines where you will be able to see local people working in the salt mines. Get free time to shop for souvenirs if you would like. Hop back on your 4x4 quadbike once again and go back to Cruz Pata where you will return your motorbike and equipment and then take a return transfer back to Cuzco.

After being picked up from your accommodation, you will head towards the ancient city of Cuzco, once the glorious capital of the Inca Empire and the center of the world. Explore the cobblestone streets built atop Inca pathways and imagine yourself walking among the flawlessly built ancient Inca roads that once led to the modern-day Plaza de Armas from faraway lands.
You will then continue the journey outside the city and discover the impressive archaeological sites of Saqsayhuaman, Q'enqo amphitheater, Pucapucara Red Fortress and Tambomachay, the Inca bath. Get the opportunity to learn more about the importance of these incredible sites on this guided tour and be amazed at the impressive engineering skills it took to build these giant fortresses so high in the Andes mountains.
Enjoy stunning panoramic views over the city and fresh mountain air before returning to Cuzco and being dropped off at your accommodation.

Day 17: Aguas Calientes, Peru

Sacred Valley tour - Transfer to Aguas Calientes (L/D)
Accommodation pick-up at 7:30 am to start off our day. We will travel out of Cuzco towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas and make our first stop at the village of Corao where we will visit a local artisan marketplace. Enjoy 30 minutes of free time to wander around buying handmade souvenirs for family and friends. Enjoy the scenic viewpoints along the panoramic highway that takes us over the mountains into the picturesque Urubamba river valley. Upon arrival to the ancient Inca town of Pisac, our guide will explain the unique architecture of this archaeological site and its magical vibes. Take about 45 minutes to explore the site and shop around in the local marketplace. For lunch, we will continue to Urubamba and make our lunch break here for a taste of Peruās finest traditional cuisine. After our break, the van will take us to Ollantaytambo, another mysterious archaeological site built into the steep mountainside. You will spend 45 minutes there, which will give you plenty of time to climb the steep steps of these ancient Inca ruins and contemplate life as you look out upon the valley. Then walk over to the train station, located a short 10-minutes on foot downhill from the archaeological site, to board the train heading for Aguas Calientes (approx. 2 hours). Upon arrival you will be met by a local guide who will transfer you to your accommodation and give you indications for the following day in Machu Picchu. Wander through the quaint town of Aguas Calientes at your leisure.
Day 18: Cuzco, Peru

Explore Machu Picchu - Return to Cuzco (B)
Take an early bus to Machu Picchu to enter the site as it opens. Your English speaking guide will meet you for a guided visit to the archaeological site (approximately 2 hours). You will then have plenty of free time to explore the hidden corners of this ancient Inca city on your own. You can choose from the optional treks to climb Huayna Picchu (additional cost - to book at least 2 weeks in advance) or walk to the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for panoramic views of the site. Later, return to Aguas Calientes by bus. Then, take the return train back to Ollantaytambo and bus to Cuzco late in the day at 14:30, 16:12, or 19:00. Upon arrival at Cuzco City Center, you will need to make your own way to your accommodation for the night.
Note: You have the option of taking an early return train or a late return train departing Aguas Calientes at 4:12pm and 7pm, respectively.
Information about the OPTIONAL hike up the steep peak named Huayna Picchu, which is located inside the Machu Picchu archaeological site: This sometimes muddy peak takes about 45 - 60 minutes to hike up and awards you with unforgettable views of Machu Picchu from a coveted perspective. Keep in mind that if you want to take this optional hike, you must now purchase your ticket at least 2 weeks in advance in order to get one of the 400 passes (200 people are allowed up at 7:00am and 200 more at 10:00am).
