Tour Overview

The destination "Transylvanian Highlands" stretches around the Hârtibaci valley, the left bank of the Târnava Mare river and the right bank of the Olt river, on an area of approximately 260,000 hectares. More than 100,000 inhabitants live in 44 communes and cities in this area. Tourists come to the south of Transylvania (on the Sibiu - Sighi?oara - Bra?ov axis), attracted by the wild nature, the mosaic landscapes, the surprising pastures with secular oaks, the picturesque communities and the beauty of the quiet life they experience here. Go beyond the asphalt, on old roads that have been walked on for centuries by locals whom will open the doors to their houses and to their souls and will invite you into their world, which goes on according to different rules, those of nature and of balance with the environment.

Day 1 : Arrival Day

Location: Henri Coandă International Airport, Bucharest

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Dinner

Arrival in Otopeni Airport Bucharest (OTP). Private transfer to your hotel in Bucharest and dinner at a local restaurant. Accommodation for 1 night in Bucharest.

Day 2 : Bucharest - Sighisoara

Location: Sighișoara

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast, you will have a Bucharest panoramic city tour where you will see the main touristic attractions like: The Press House, the Kiseleff Boulevard, the Arch of Triumph, the Victoria Square, the Spring Palace, the Cotroceni Palace and the Palace of Parliament (inside visit too).

After, the lunch break we transfer by private coach to Sighisoara 4/5hrs north. Founded by German merchants, the Saxons of Transylvania, Sighisoara became a fine example of a small, fortified medieval town playing an important strategic and commercial role for several centuries on the fringes of Central Europe. Our hotel, the Casa cu Cerb, is where Prince Charles stays when he comes to this part of Romania.

Dinner in Sighisoara.

Day 3 : Medias - Biertan - Malancrav - Crit

Location: Mediaș, Biertan, Mălâncrav, Criț

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Our first day’s trek starts with a short transfer to the town of Medias. The villages of this area have been described as arguably the most beautiful in the whole of Romania and today we have a walking challenge that brings us to several of these. The first village we come to is Biertan and continue onto Copsa Mare on a hill overlooking a view that could easily come out of 16th century Europe; a church and village, set in the valley with wine terraces stepped up the hills behind. For the rest of the day, we trek from Nou Sasesc in the Laslea valley to Malancrav with its 14th church noted for its lovely paintings and finally Crit from where we return to our hotel.

Day 4 : Stejareni - Saschiz

Location: Saschiz, Stejărenii

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After a good Romanian breakfast, we head off to Stejareni for our second trekking day. The trails follow sheep tracks and pass-through lovely beech woods along gentle rolling valleys. We trek through Apold with its excellent Speckkammer tower, where the Saxon villagers to this day hang their 30 sides of pig fat. Next, we trek to Daia, which has now sadly lost more than 94% of its Saxon inhabitants, and finally we make our way over the hill and into the Flosa valley to Saschiz where we transfer to Viscri the most interesting and famous village in this area with a truly beautiful, fortified church, before heading back to our hotel for a nice relax and a lovely supper.

Day 5 : Brasov - Bran

Location: Brașov, Prejmer, Hărman, Bran

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

For our last challenge day, we leave Sighisoara and head towards Brasov for the best preserved and most visited of the Saxon Villages, Harman and Prejmer. This morning is dedicated to visiting these two important towns and we have lunch in Prejmer before we make our way to Magura for an afternoon walk to finish our challenge. We then transfer to Bran, where we spend the night in a villa close to Bran Castle, Dracula’s medieval Fortress.

Day 6 : Departure

Location: Henri Coandă International Airport

This is actually a review...

This is actually a review for on behalf of myself and my wife, Fiona and Barry, who visited Romania between July 15th and 26th. We had a wonderful time from the moment we arrived at the airport to when we were brought back. It's a beautiful country and the organisation was excellent. Guides all arrived on time and were very friendly, informative and knowledgeable, from Gigi(?) who collected us from the airport to Marius who delivered out rental car and guided us on our walking tour of Bucharest on the last day. Thanks to Alex and all the team. Highly recommended!!!

We did the trip to the fortified churches and so glad we did as this ended up being a real highlight of our time in Transylvania, Peter was a wonderful guide, interesting and with a whole host of information at his fingertips and it made such a difference to bringing the whole thing alive with the history, stories etc. Churches themselves were wonderful to see and such an interesting slice of history here. Highly recommend.

Recently I traveled to Sibiu, Romania. After some research I decided to use Carpatian Travel Center for transportation. I was very happy with the service: professional, well organized. Luiza, my contact person with the company, was an effective communicator and very professional. The drivers were polite, the cars were very clean, in good condition and with air conditioning. It was a very good experience and I plan to use them again in my future vacations.

We had two good experiences...

08-Aug-2018

We had two good experiences with Carpathian Travel; we arrived late and were short on booking time to get on to tours. Carpathian Travel were very helpful as we went back a few times trying to decide on the best tour and travel method to choose. Eventually, they got us onto a tour of our choice and then our second delight was our guide Alex Stanulet. Alex was funny, charming, relaxed and informative. A most enjoyable day. We did the Bierta. Malancrav, Sighisoara day trip!

This place and the customer...

25-Oct-2022

This place and the customer advisor, Name Georgie deserves all the accolades. Georgie a young girl but very knowledgeable with great friendly attitude. Always smiling . She will get up and come up to you where the front reception is. She loves her job. She does this while studying. As I was a single traveller, she found for me a couple who were travelling to Alba lullia etc. so I could also travel with them. Next found a place for me to go Brasov. Not enough words to describe Georgie’s pleasant nature. I would go and say Buna Dimineata if I was passing by. Ps. I went to information office which is near bridge of lies. This office officially is closed but Georgie comes 3 days a week. ( infor as 1st week Oct)
