Although much of the city was destroyed by invading Mughal forces in the 16th century, some of its historical grandeur has survived to the present day.

Located on a prominent star-shaped platform, the Keshava Temple is home to three identical sanctuaries housing priceless statues of Hindu deities. The architectural skill of the Hoysala dynasty is on full display in this temple.
The opulent Mysore Palace, once home to the great Maharajas of Mysore, is our afternoon destination. This magnificent palace dates back to the 14th century, when the Wadiyars dynasty of Mysore first became a ruling power in the region. The first palace was a simple building made of wood and mud. Many disasters, including fires, necessitated its reconstruction over the centuries.
Between 1897 and 1912, under the patronage of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, the current Mysore Palace was painstakingly crafted. The famous British architect Lord Henry Irwin was entrusted with this massive undertaking. Cochin, or Kochi as it's also known, is a bustling city in the Indian state of Kerala, near the country's southwestern coast. This strategic harbor town has been around for centuries, and its history is rich. Cochin has become a crossroads for people from all over the world, and as a result the city's traditions, architecture, and cuisine have evolved to reflect this unique blend of cultures. The arrival of the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama in 1498 catapulted Cochin to historical prominence during the 15th century. To protect their commercial interests, the Portuguese set up a substantial presence in Cochin, including the construction of Fort Manuel (now known as Fort Kochi). The Portuguese not only brought Christianity to the area, but they also built several churches, including the well-known St. Francis Church, which is one of the oldest European churches in India.
Cochin, the most cosmopolitan city in South India, is home to many amazing sights worth seeing. Experience the beauty of the synagogue in the Jewish quarter and marvel at the Chinese fishing nets in Mattancherry. See where Vasco de Gama is buried in St. Francis Church.
