It’s worth taking your time to fully appreciate these colossal feats of human endeavour. At lunch, sample local culinary delights such as koshari (a mix of rice, macaroni, lentils and spiced tomato sauce) and ful medames (crushed fava beans cooked with cumin, lemon, garlic and fresh herbs – typically served with bread). You’ll then visit the Grand Egyptian Museum in the afternoon.

Admire the extensive array of Islamic architecture on Moez Street and embrace the chaos of the Khan Al-Khalili bazaar – a labyrinth of stalls selling jewellery, exotic spices, handcrafted souvenirs and much more. At an old bookbinding store, you’ll have the chance to treat yourself to a personalised leather notebook. Next, it’s time to board the overnight sleeper train from Giza station to Luxor.

icon Day 4 : Explore the temples of Dendera and Luxor
Location:

  Luxor

Meals Included:

  Breakfast

No trip to Egypt would be complete without visiting several of the inspiring temples that form an integral part of the country’s heritage. Upon arrival in Luxor, you’ll be driven to the Dendera Temple Complex in the nearby city of Qena. The main temple, built in honour of Hathor, the goddess of love, joy and beauty, is one of the best preserved in Egypt. You’ll then return to Luxor and check into the hotel. Set out on an evening tour of the Luxor Temple, and witness the ancient sandstone glowing in the candlelight.

Activities included:

Dendera Temple visit
Luxor Temple tour

icon Day 5 : Discover the Valley of the Kings
Location:

  Luxor

Accommodation:

  Movenpick Royal Lilly Nile Cruise

Meals Included:

  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

It’s an early start today as you’ll be exploring the Valley of the Kings, the royal burial ground of many pharaohs during the New Kingdom (1539BCE-1075BCE). Venture into the tomb of Tutankhamun before moving on to the temple of Hatshepsut, a striking tribute to one of the first female pharaohs. Following a delicious home-cooked lunch with a local family, you’ll stop by the Colossi of Memnon – two 18m (59ft) tall stone monuments depicting Pharaoh Amenhotep III. In the afternoon, you’ll hop aboard the cruise ship to begin your journey down the Nile.

Activities included:

Valley of the Kings entry
Tutankhamun Tomb entry
Hatshepsut Temple entry
Colossi of Memnon visit

icon Day 6 : Visit Karnak Temple and shop for local souvenirs in Luxor
Location:

  Nile

Accommodation Name:

  Movenpick Royal Lilly Nile Cruise

Meals Included:

  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, your floating hotel will drop you off at Karnak Temple. This majestic 4,000-year-old temple, in a complex spanning more than 100ha (247 acres), is believed to be the largest religious building in the world – larger, even, than some entire ancient cities. Later in the morning, take a walking tour of the vibrant Souq of Luxor where you can shop for souvenirs and enjoy a refreshing hibiscus tea, known as karkade. Reboard the ship and continue your journey towards your next stop, Edfu.

Activities included:

Karnak Temple visit
Souq of Luxor walking tour

icon Day 7 : Explore the Temple of Kom Ombo
Location:

  Temple of Kom Ombo

Accommodation Name:

  Movenpick Royal Lilly Nile Cruise

Meals Included:

  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Fancy taking it easy this morning? It’s entirely up to you – but if you’re keen for an adventure, the Temple of Edfu is worth seeing. Built between 237BCE and 57BCE, it’s relatively young by Egyptian temple standards and therefore extremely well preserved. You can get here either by foot or horse-drawn carriage. On your return to the ship, you’ll sail to Kom Ombo, home to another impressive temple. Overlooking the Nile, it comprises two symmetrical temples split down the middle. Explore here for a couple of hours before setting off on the last leg of your cruise.

Activities included:

Kom Ombo Temple visit

icon Day 8 : Enjoy a felucca cocktail party at sunset
Location:

  Aswan

Accommodation Name:

  Movenpick Royal Lilly Nile Cruise

Meals Included:

  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Wake up in Aswan, the southernmost Egyptian city and the final stop of your cruise. You can choose to take an early bus to the temples of Abu Simbel – around a 3.5hr journey each way through the desert. Carved into the mountainside, these spectacular temples – built by Ramses II during the 13th century BCE – were dismantled in the 1960s and relocated here, to prevent them from being flooded by Lake Nasser. If all that sounds too active, you may prefer to spend the day at leisure. Come evening, sip cocktails on a felucca, a traditional sailboat, as the Nile glistens beneath the setting sun.

Activities included:

Felucca sunset cocktail party

icon Day 9 : Kayak on the Nile and explore the islands of Aswan
Location:

  Aswan

Accommodation:

  Hotel

Accommodation Name:

  Anakato Nubian Houses

Meals Included:

  Breakfast

This morning, you’ll swap the Nile cruise ship for a kayak in Aswan, allowing you to experience the river from a totally different perspective. If you have the appetite for one last temple visit, then Philae nearby features some of the last hieroglyphs written by the ancient Egyptians. Alternatively, you can visit islands in the Nile such as Elephantine and Soheil at your own pace. Round off your trip in memorable style with an authentic Nubian dinner in the warm company of the locals.

Activities included:

River Nile kayaking
Farewell dinner

icon Day 10 : Depart from Aswan
Location:

  Aswan

The time has come to pack your bags and bid farewell to your fellow travellers. Check out of the hotel by midday and head to the airport for your flight home. Alternatively, you can extend your travels by boarding a plane to Amman for our Beyond Petra: Discovering Jordan’s Rugged Side trip.

Check out our Q&As

Can I travel in my own private group?

Yes you can. Our team of Travel Experts can put together a bespoke trip to suit all group sizes in most destinations around the world. Please contact us for more details.

How fit do I need to be to take one of your trips?

We offer a variety of different trips, most of which do not require a specific level of fitness. Some of our trips are more active, but we include details on each specific trip information page. If you are unsure please don’t hesitate to ask one of our Travel Experts.

How many meals are included?

Breakfast is included daily and then depending on your itinerary, some lunches and dinners. This is clearly indicated in the trip details or ask your Travel Expert to confirm.

Do I need any vaccinations?

As a tour operator we are unable to give medical advice, however we suggest you contact your doctor, a professional medical travel clinic or check out the World Health Organisation website for more details.

Can I book extra nights accommodation before or after my trip?

Yes, call or email one of our Travel Experts who will be able to add accommodation to your booking.

When will I know if my trip is guaranteed?

We usually wait until we have a few travellers booked on a trip before we guarantee it will run. The latest we will guarantee a trip is 60 days ahead of departure, often it will be long before.

What happens if I need to amend or cancel my booking?

You can change the date of your tour up to 60 days prior to departure and cancel at any time, although cancellation conditions may apply.

Are flights / transport to the destination included?

No - our travellers come from all over the world so flights and / or transport to the start destination are not included.

    Are airport transfers included?

Some of our trips do not include airport transfers, so we recommend customers either take public transport or a taxi. However, if you would like us to arrange a private transfer please ask one of our travel experts who can arrange this for you.

What kind of luggage should I bring?

It depends on the type of trip you have booked, but we usually recommend a soft sided bag or case as they are easier to handle on a trip.

What is not included in the trip?

We don’t include the following in our trips: insurance (however you must have insurance to travel on one of our trips), flights, tips for local guides, optional activities and other meals and services not mentioned in your itinerary.

Do I need to buy travel insurance?

Yes - all travellers must have travel insurance before they join one of our trips. You are strongly advised to take out your policy at the time of booking to protect your holiday payments in the event of cancellation.

What kind of transport do you use on your trips?

We use a mix of public and private transport on our trips, but usually a small and comfortable minibus, so we can access more remote destinations that larger groups can’t get to.

Is there any age limit on the Trips?

You must be 25 or over to travel on our trips, however there is no upper age limit. You just need a sense of adventure.

What happens if I am travelling on my own?

Most accommodations on our trips are reserved on a twin share basis. Therefore, if you are travelling on your own you will be sharing a room with another Culture Trip traveller of the same sex. However, most of the time it is possible to pay a supplement for your own room. Please ask your Travel Expert for more information.

    What is the group size?

Our maximum group size is 18, although our average group size is 10-12 people. Group travel is a great way to meet other people, and you will have the safety of travelling with a group, but you can also decide how much time you want to spend by yourself.

    What visas do I need?

Depending on your passport and your destination, you may need a visa to travel on one of our trips. It is up to you to ensure you have any and all necessary visas before you travel. We recommend you check with a specialist visa agency at least 6 weeks before you travel.

How much money should I bring?

This will depend on how long your trip is, your destination and how much you intend to spend on personal expenses and any meals that aren’t included. It is a good idea to check out the cost of a local lunch and dinner in your destination before you travel.

    Do I need to tip?

Tips are not included in the price of your trip but are entirely optional and at your discretion.

Why should I travel with Culture Trip?

We know the world's best bits – our award-winning content proves it. Now we’re using that expertise to bring you curated trips that combine thoughtful planning with authentic experiences and hand-picked accommodation. Led by Local Insiders, our trips bring together small groups of curious travellers who embrace the value of shared experiences, cultural immersion and travel that never feels rushed.

Will there always be a guide on the trip?

Absolutely yes. We pride ourselves on our expert Local Insiders - they are an integral part of what makes our trips so special. Your Local Insider will accompany you throughout the trip and is there to help and assist in any way possible as well as ensure everything works to time.

Pyramids, Temples and the Nile: the Ultimate Egypt Experience

I had always been hesitant to try a group tour, because they seemed so stuffy and restricting. I like to do things off the beaten trail when I travel, and ....more

I had always been hesitant to try a group tour, because they seemed so stuffy and restricting.

I like to do things off the beaten trail when I travel, and I try as best I can to experience whatever I can that is specific to the local culture, which always seemed less likely to happen with a strict itinerary of tourist spots.

The Egypt tour I booked through Culture Trip was so far from that, and in fact was way more of an authentic experience than anything I would’ve managed to book on my own, especially had I been traveling alone in Egypt.

I didn’t have to stress out about any logistics, or spend a lot of time haggling over prices, or waste any time on the trip wondering about what I should do next, and all of that paired with the fact that I had a wonderful local insider traveling alongside me the entire way made it so that all I had to do was lay back and enjoy the trip.
