Day 1: Quito, Ecuador. Arrive in Quito today and make your own way to your hotel. This evening a Welcome Meeting provides the chance to get to know your guide and follow travellers, and finalise arrangements for your adventure ahead. Overnight in a Quito hotel.
Day 2: Quito-San Cristóbal Island & embarkation. This morning you will transfer to the airport for an early morning flight to the Galapagos Islands. Here you will board the Monserrat, your home for the next few days. After lunch head to Isla Lobos, a tiny off-shore island which is home to a small colony of blue-footed boobies as well as two species of sea lions. Explore on foot or try snorkeling the crystal clear waters in the company of inquisitive sea lion pups.
Day 3: Cerro Brujo. Head ashore at Cerro Brujo (Witch Hill) on San Cristóbal’s north coast, where you may find sea lions, marine iguanas and seabirds in abundance. Continue inland into the highlands to visit a giant tortoise breeding centre. See newborns as well as full-grown adult tortoises, which can live well over 100 years.
Day 4: Bahia Gardner & Punta Suárez, Española Island. Enjoy the day on Española Island, one of the oldest in the archipelago. Visit the white sandy beach of Gardner Bay and snorkel amongst large tropical fish, including yellow-tailed surgeonfish, king angelfish, bump-head parrot fish and white-tipped reef sharks. Later head to Punta Suárez on the western tip of Española, where you may encounter surfing young sea lions and countless nesting sea birds, including the waved albatross. Follow the path up to the cliff-top for great views over the ocean, and watch sea birds gliding in the wind.
Day 5: Punta Cormorant, Floreana Island. Cruising on to Floreana Island, your day starts with a landing at Punta Cormorant. Discover two striking beaches: one with green sand, coloured by olivine crystals, and another with white sand particles known as 'Flour Beach'. Spend time observing flamingos and other shore birds feeding in the lagoon and spot penguins and marine iguanas at the water’s edge. Later head out to tiny Champion Islet, where you can snorkel with a playful sea lion colony as well as sea turtle, rays and tropical fish. Continuing to Post Office Bay you will learn about the island’s unique history, when English whaling vessels used a barrel in this location as a post office. Today this is used by visitors who can drop off and pick up unstamped letters to be delivered to destinations worldwide!
Day 6: Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island-Baltra-Quito. Your cruise ends on the island of Santa Cruz, with disembarkation this morning in Puerto Ayora. Today you will visit the renowned Charles Darwin Research Station to see the giant Galápagos tortoises, which have been brought back from the brink of extinction thanks to the excellent conservation work carried out here. Later you will be transferred to the airport on Baltra Island for your flight back to Quito. Overnight in a hotel in Quito tonight.
Day 7: Quito. Your adventure ends today after breakfast as you bid farewell to the rest of the group.
