Day 1 : Welcome To Zanzibar
Location: Zanzibar
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Stone Town hotel
Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner

Your Zanzibar island holiday starts today. You have the option of either flying directly into Zanzibar or choosing to arrive via ferry from the bustling city of Dar es Salaam.

We'll be there to meet and greet you before we whisk you away to your accommodation in Stone Town - Zanzibar's historic heart. Once we get there, we'll help you settle in and you have the rest of the day free to explore your new surroundings.

Day 2 : Exploring Stone Town
Location: Stone Town
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Stone Town hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Steeped in history, Stone Town was once an important stop on both the Slave and Spice Trade Routes. We start our day with a visit to Changuu Island (often referred to as Prison Island), which was primarily supposed to be used as a prison, instead, it became a quarantine station for yellow fever epidemics.

We'll enjoy a short-guided tour of Changuu Island, where you may get the chance to see the giant land tortoises which call the island home. If there's enough time, snorkelling around the island is also a possibility.

Day 3 : Spice Tour, Jozani Forest And To Nungwi
Location: Nungwi Beach
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Nungwi hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After an eventful few days in Stone Town, we travel north towards Nungwi - famous for its palm-lined Nungwi Beach - and our home for the next three nights.

En-route to Nungwi, we will enjoy a Spice Tour and stopping along the way to experience a guided tour of the Jozani Forest, which was built for the conservation of the endangered Red Colobus monkeys, but be sure to keep an eye out for duiker and a variety of bird and butterfly species which reside in the forest.

Day 4 : Free Time In Nungwi
Location: Nungwi
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Nungwi hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

You have the day free to enjoy all the attractions and activities that Nungwi has to offer. If you're a lover of water sports, then you're in luck - Nungwi offers fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving and a host of other oceanic activities.

Another idea is to rent a scooter and explore the many attractions along the beachfront.

Regardless of what you do though, be sure to create your own island memories!

Day 5 : More Free Time In Nungwi
Location: Nungwi
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Nungwi hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Couldn't fit in all of Nungwi's activities yesterday? The good news is that you have another free day to do as you please, or to simply laze away on the sun-kissed beachfront.

Day 6 : Back To Stone Town
Location: Stone Town
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After a luxurious few nights in Nungwi, it's time to head back to Stone Town. You can opt to book additional nights in Stone Town or depart the island either via the seaport or airport.

Check out our Q&As

  • Are all the relevant entry visa’s included in the price of the tour?

Passports should be valid for at least six months after your departure from the country. Please do not bring an almost full or almost expired passport. Visa arrangements are the responsibility of the traveller, and requirements are subject to change by the local authorities. Encounters Travel will not be held responsible if travellers are denied entry because they are not in possession of the relevant visas. We therefore recommend you re-check requirements with the relevant embassy/consulate around 4 weeks before travel. You should also be in possession of a valid onward or return flight ticket, or proof of other means of transport enabling you to leave the country that your tour passes through or finishes in. In addition you should carry proof of sufficient funds to cover you during your time in the country (eg. credit card). Should your tour be re-entering a country, please ensure that you have a multiple entry visa that allows this. Some countries have a visa on arrival service which can be more convenient and cheaper. However, for peace of mind and to speed up the border crossing process, Encounters Travel advises that you to get your visas prior to your trip if possible.

  • Are vaccinations required for this tour?

You should ensure you are fully insured for medical emergencies including emergency evacuation and repatriation. Recommended vaccinations and other health protection measures vary according to the country you are visiting and where you are travelling from. We recommend you contact your GP/medical practitioner or a travel clinic for current information on vaccinations needed for your destination. You should ensure that you are up to date with vaccines and boosters recommended for your normal life at home, including for example, vaccines required for occupational risk of exposure, lifestyle risks and underlying medical conditions. In addition, additional courses or boosters normally recommended for the countries in this region are: South Africa: Additional vaccinations: Hepatitis A. Malaria map. Yellow Fever certificate: Required if arriving from or having transitted through an infected area. Namibia: Additional vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Tetanus, Typhoid. Malaria map. Morocco: Additional vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Tetanus, Typhoid. Malaria not normally present. Yellow Fever certificate not required. The above information can change at short notice. For up to date health information & vaccination requirements we recommend that you contact your medical practitioner or a travel clinic. Malaria: Vaccinations are not available against Malaria, which is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes that can be very serious and sometimes fatal. You should avoid mosquito bites by covering up bare skin with clothing such as long sleeves and long trousers and applying insect repellents to exposed skin. When necessary, sleep under a mosquito net. Mosquitoes are most active during and after sunset. You should consult with your GP/medical practitioner/travel clinic about the most appropriate malaria prophylactic medication to take for the regions you are visiting. Yellow Fever: This disease is spread by infected mosquitoes that bite during the day. A Yellow Fever Certificate of vacinnation is often required as a condition of entry depending on which country you are arriving from, or that you have travelled or transitted through recently (including connecting flights with stopovers of over 12 hours). You can view this US CDC information about where the virus is present and follow the links to further information detailing which countries need you to have a Yellow Fever vaccination as part of their entry requirements. Please ensure you have this certificate organised in advance and with you and to hand during the trip. Please inform us of any pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or asthma and any prescription medicine you may be taking. We also need to know about any food allergies or physical disabilities that you may have. If you are travelling on an Overland tour or your trip includes wildlife safaris then please bear in mind that you may be travelling on bumpy roads and/or rough ground for several hours at a time. This can be very uncomfortable or painful if you have a bad back, and make such conditions worse. Please contact us if you have any concerns.

  • Are the local guides on the tour English speaking?

This small-group tour in Tanzania runs with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 7 travellers in the group. In Tanzania we provide fully trained, local English-speaking guides for all of the sightseeing tours. At Encounters Travel we aim to only use local guides and reps. We feel this gives you the best experience of the country and the sites you are seeing.

  • Are airport transfers included in this tour?

Airport transfers are not included in the price of the tour and you should make your own way to the first hotel used on the tour. This will be reconfirmed on your tour confirmation voucher, sent a couple of weeks before the tour starts. Airport transfers are available on request if required.

  • Are all entrance fees included in the price?

The tour price includes entrance fees to all the tourist sites mentioned in the itinerary. You will need to cover the cost of entrance to any other extra sites that you may wish to visit.

  • Is travel insurance compulsory?

Yes! Travel insurance is compulsory on all of our tours and needs to cover personal accident & liability, medical expenses and repatriation, travel delay & abandonment. We also strongly recommend that you take out cover against cancellation and lost/stolen baggage. Personal medical insurance does not normally provide sufficient cover and is generally not suitable for travel on our tours. You will not be able to join your tour if you have not provided us with details of your insurance or if you arrive without cover in place (no refunds will be due in this event).

  • What happens if I need to change my holiday date once I’ve booked?

You are always able to change your travel date. However, some charges may apply depending on how long before your departure you make the change. Our flexible booking conditions and reduced charges will apply if you are changing date because of a Covid-19 reason or because your government is advising against travel to your destination. Please check our detailed booking conditions for full details.

  • When is my balance payment due?

    60 days prior to departure

  • Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

On most of our group tours, solo travellers may choose to form a temporary 'tour bubble' and share a room with another traveller of the same sex in the group. If a room share is not available then a single room supplement may be payable, with the costs for these kept as low as possible. We have also removed compulsory single supplements from many of our tours, and are reducing the cost by 50% on s

  • Can I transfer my booking to someone else?

Customers may transfer their booking or any Credit on File to another person who satisfies all the relevant conditions to the tour, provided that we are notified not less than 7 days before departure, and the transferee agrees to these booking conditions and all other terms of the contract between us. The Client and new booker are jointly and severally responsible for any outstanding payments and a transfer administration fee of GBP50 / USD75 / CAD100 / AUD100 / NZD100 / EUR75 / ZAR1000 / INR5000 or GBP100 / USD150 / CAD200 / AUD200 / NZD200 / EUR150 / ZAR2000 / INR10,000 if the transfer is made less than 60 days before departure. Truly fantastic trip

17 November 2023

Absolutely incredible trip to Cairo and Luxor with Encounters travel and Lady Egypt. Everything was organised to perfection from the minute I landed. The guides Mustafa and Tayeb were brilliant - so informative and highly entertaining and also great personal photographers. All the staff were so helpful and went above and beyond. And I felt safe and cared for at all times. I had such a wonderful and memorable trip and would love to return again some day soon.

Fantastic Tour!

November 2023

I was unsure what to expect but it was far better than I thought. Collected from the airport and thoroughly looked after until I was returned to the airport 10 days later. The times, travelling and food was as advertised. The guide and sights were beyond my expectations. Fantastic tour.

A Wonderful Trip!

November 2023

From the minute we stepped into the Arrivals area at Cairo airport to stepping into the Departures area 10 days later were looked after with care and friendliness and with great efficiency. Any queries we had were quickly dealt with, (thank you Ahmed) and we couldn’t fault anything. Both our guides in Cairo and on our Dahabiya (Mohammeds) were excellent, so full of knowledge and able to bring 4000 years of history alive for us. The 4 days on Dahabiya Orient was magical - comfortable, relaxing with a fantastic crew who looked after the 6 of us so well and made us really welcome. The two downsides were our lovely hotel in Cairo, Le Riad Charme, full of character and with excellent staff, but was opposite a very noisy cafe which played loud music till 2 am! And in Luxor where, for some reason, our itinerary was compacted into 1 day rather than a day and a half, which was very tiring as we had left our Cairo hotel at 3:30 am, but our hotel Al Moudira was fabulous and we were able to totally relax and enjoy the surroundings after a long hot day. Thank you Encounters Travel for helping to make our wonderful trip to Egypt so good. Sara Kent.
