Tour Overview

The culture in this particular area is of great notebook stuff & interacting with the local folks puts more zest into your adventurous journey as you plod through the Khumbu region of Nepal. This legendary trail is a psychological thrill for high & wild hikers who wish the tread the paths where legends walked before on their way to conquer Everest, some did some didn’t but the Everest Base Camp trail keeps those legends alive for most trekkers who head to this region. The trip begins with a stirring mountain flight to Lukla, one of the world’s highest mountains; & as soon as you touch down at that altitude, the rest is history. Your hike takes you to the popular village town of Namche, called the ‘gateway to the Khumbu’’ & from there on your walk through quiet monasteries & meet up with the well known Sherpa folks who inhabit this region & their culture is worth noting. On the way, we visit the Sagarmatha National Park, home to some rare fauna & flora, this also where we acclimatize for some time. We head deep into the Khumbu hiking into the forest of rhododendron, birch trees & pine, with colorful villages where we are sincerely welcomed by the Sherpa community. We are pleasantly surprised to come across a hospital-based in Khunde and health post at Pheriche that shows this region not only cares for the locals but is also ready to take care of trekkers who have altitude problems. Doctors are always at the post for first aid treatment. The trek is arduous but numerous teahouses are found on the trails offering good grub & a cozy bed to shelter from the sometimes harsh climate. Our trek culminates at base camp and then we make a beeline for Namche as we hike back to Lukla to rendezvous for our flight to Kathmandu. We add an extra contingency day for inclement weather that may delay flights. It’s advisable to be pretty fit to undertake this journey; you just need some good hiking exercise before doing this trip. And ‘Glorious Himalaya’’ will do the rest to give you an action-packed odyssey of a lifetime…

Day 1 : Flight To Lukla And Trek To Phakding - (2,652M) 3/4 Hrs Walk
Location: Phakding
Accommodation: Lodge/ Tea House
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A thrilling scenic flight to Lukla and a landing on a steep mountain runway brings us to the start of our trek at the village of Lukla [2850m]. After meeting the supporting crew, we head up the Dudh Kosi Valley on a well-marked trail and then stay overnight in Phakding.

Day 2 : Trek From Phakding To Namche Bazaar - (3,440M) 6 Hrs Walk
Location: Namche Bazar
Accommodation: Lodge / Tea house
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast at Phakding, we set out for the mountain junction town of Namche; we cross and re-cross the river on high airy suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was set-up to protect and preserve the fragile mountain environment. We then take a steep hike to Namche Bazar. If the weather is clear, we get the first glimpse of Mt Everest. Namche is the main trading village in the Khumbu and has a busy Saturday market - a meeting place for the Hindu traders from the lowlands and the Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La. Namche is the gateway to the Khumbu. This is where we crash out for the night.

Day 3 : Acclimatization In Namche Bazaar - (3440M):
Location: Namche Bazar
Accommodation: Lodge / Tea house
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Namche is tucked away between two ridges amidst the giant peaks of the Khumbu and has an abundance of lodges, tea shops, and souvenir shops. It is an ideal place to spend a day, acclimatizing to the new altitude before heading off towards Syangboche. To acclimatize, you visit Khunde Hospital set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary or take a one hour walk up to the Everest View Hotel above Namche for the sunset view of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Everest. We then go to Khumjung where we visit a school established by Hillary. We begin our hike after enjoying lunch; bypassing the route of Khimde. There are also good views from the National Park Centre and Museum just above the town. After going through our acclimatization drills, we head down to our lodge for some beers & good sleep.

Day 4 : Trek From Namche Bazaar To Tengboche - (3,860M) 5 Hrs Walk
Location: Tyangboche
Accommodation: Lodge / Tea House
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast in Namche, we start our trek towards Tengboche enjoying the superb view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and close up view of Thamserku. Our trek follows on the gradual trail with few ups and downs overlooking a magnificent view of the great Himalaya. Along the way, we can spot wild lives like pheasant, musk deer, or a herd of Himalayan Thar. The trail goes gradually down up to Kyangjuma. The path eventually reaches Sanasa which is the major trail junction to Gokyo valley and Everest Base Camp. The track then follows through the pine forests and after we cross the prayer flags festooned bridge over Dudh Kosi River, we reach Phunki Tenga, a small settlement with a couple of teahouses and a small army post amidst the alpine woods. After having a relaxed lunch at Phunki Tenga we then have a little tough climb steep up through the pine forests while before we reach Tengboche. Tengboche is a great place for close up views of Ama-Dablam, Nuptse, and Everest and it has the biggest Buddhist Monastery all over in the Khumbu region. Overnight stay at the lodge in Tengboche.

Day 5 : Trek From Tengboche To Dingboche (4350), 6-7 Hr Walk
Location: Dingboche
Accommodation: Lodge / Tea house
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Tengboche is also a beautiful place to observe the sunrise. The sun rises over the beautiful panoramas of the Everest range. After viewing the sunrise and having breakfast, you will head out to Dingboche. You will trek downhill today initially. This will take you inside the rhododendron, birch, and pine forests. On clearer areas, you will also be able to see Mt Ama Dablam, Mt.Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse. As you trek past the forest, you will get to the narrow gorge of Imja-Tse river. After crossing this gorge on a bridge, you will head out to Pangboche village (3,900m). You will follow a gentle uphill trail to Pangboche.

Shomare is the village you will reach as you cross Pangboche. Shomare offers you some close-up views of Mt. Ama-Dablam. As you take the trail from Shomare to the North Eastern side, you will reach Imja Tse valley. Walking further from Imja Tse Imja Tse will eventually take you to the beautiful place of Dingboche. Today’s trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4400 meters) is 6-7 hours long.

Day 6 : Rest At Dingboche For Acclimatization.
Location: Dingboche
Accommodation: Lodge / Tea house
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Dingboche lies at an altitude of 4000 meters. So you will need to spend another day acclimatizing to the high altitude of this region as well. This is due to the lower amount of oxygen here. There are a few optional hikes we have arranged for you in Dingboche.

One such activity is the short hike up to Nagarjuna Hill. The Nagarjuna hill is a grand place to admire the beauty of Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest, Island Peak and Chukung Ri. You can also go out on small hikes close to the Dingboche village to explore its beauty. We can explore the Chhukung Valley.

Day 7 : Trek To Lobuche - (4,910M) 5 Hrs Walk
Location: Lobuche
Accommodation: lodge / Tea House
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

continue up the wide valley beneath the impressive peaks of Cholatse and Tawache on the left. We then turn right and take a steep climb towards the foot of the Khumbu Glacier. The tea house at Duglha is a good spot to have lunch. The trail zigzags up through the boulders of the glacier's terminal moraine. At the top of this climb, there are many stone cairns, built as memorials to the many Sherpas who have died while climbing Mt Everest. The path then climbs gently along the glacier, to eventually reach the cluster of houses at Lobuche.

Day 8 : Trek To Everest Base Camp And Back To Gorakshep For The Night - (5400M) 8 Hrs Walk
Location: Gorakshep
Accommodation: Lodge / Tea House
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today it’s a long and gritty day. After a hot breakfast at our lodge, we climb through meadows and moraine stones steps to reach Gorakshep, by either climbing to Kala Patthar or continue heading to Everest base camp. We suggest that you make a beeline for the Everest base camp. By the way, from Everest base camp we do not see Mount Everest. However, from Kala Patthar, we get to see the entire south face of Mt. Everest and well-known peaks nearby; this also includes great sights of the skyline of the Tibet plateau. Overnight at the height of (5,364) at a lodge.

Day 9 : Trek To Pheriche. Via Kala Patthar - (4210M) 7 Hrs Walk
Location: Pheriche
Accommodation: Lodge /Tea house
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After some early morning tea/coffee, we have the option to climb Kalapatthar at (5545m.) and enjoy a spectacular sunrise view. From Kala Patthar, you can have a panoramic view of Mt. Everest and many other mountain peaks that include a host of famous ones: Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbetse, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku, and many more huge peaks. Yaks are normally regarded as four-legged porters in this area due to its tough terrain which would be difficult for human porters. The town of Pheriche is also known as a highly windy town. Hereabouts, you can see the perpendicular walls of Cholatse and Tawache. The Himalayan Rescue Association Aid Post is also located here and foreign volunteer doctors provide medical treatment to trekkers as well as local people in this area.

Day 10 : Trek Back To Namche - (3440M) 6 Hrs Walk
Location: Namche Bazar
Accommodation: Hostel, Hotel, Camp, Lodge / Tea house
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We retrace our steps with a Trek back to Namche about 6 hours from Pheriche and do an overnight at the bustling & hustling village town of Namche with full board meals (Breakfast/Dinner/Lunch). We chill out here with some beers and enjoy some relevant comfort.

Day 11 : Trek To Lukla - (2800M) 7 Hrs Walk
Location: Lukla
Accommodation: Lodge / Tea House
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This is our last day on these lovely mountains that has been home to us all of these days. We continue to backtrack our hike towards Lukla along the Dudh Koshi River which is about 7 hours from Namche and do an overnight at Lukla.

Amazing EBC trek

29-Jun-2020

We set out on the 3rd Sep 19 , me my son and 3 friends and our guide Basu. Our aircraft left Kathmandu late as the clouds were low , we arrived at Lukla 30 mins after take off and wow that is a small landing strip😬. The days were long and tough and one of our party had to be airlifted back from pheriche, due to ams. We finally reached base camp on the 10th September 19 and we were all very emotional, this would not have been possible without the amazing knowledge of Basu from Exciting Nepal tours, the guy was an inspiration to us all. When we got back to Lukla we were stranded for 6 day due to the weather but Basu never let anything get him down and kept our moral up ( even though he’s wife gave birth to their first child while we were stranded). I honestly can’t pay the man enough compliments and wish him the best of luck 🙏

Exciting Nepal - thank you for making my EBC dream come true

29-Jun-2020

Wow. Where to start. This trip was life changing and it would not have been possible without Subash, Basu, and the whole team at Exciting Nepal. Thank you. The quick version for busy travelers: Exciting Nepal makes Nepal adventure dreams come true. Their guide Basu is one of the best I've ever had and along with our porters Singman and Ngima we had a team that literally lifted our spirits and felt like a family - critical vibes for what is a physically and mentally taxing adventure near to the top of the world. If EBC is on your list (or really anywhere in Nepal is including ABC), Exciting Nepal needs to be who you book with and Basu needs to be your guide. A bit longer: First, if you're reading this review and have any hesitation booking with a local agency - put that aside. Exciting Nepal is special. Subash and his team are world class and exceeded our expectations on every front from on the ground excellence, to safety and attentiveness. They are constantly working the trails and have a dynamic network to get the best real time information. They also have great relationships with the helicopter companies for immediate rescue and extraction - so you always know you're safe and have the option should you ever need it. But what's travel without heart and story? That's where our guide Basu led our small group with energy, passion, professionalism and unique domain knowledge up and down the trail that only comes with 10 years of experience leading trekkers across the country. Basu is everything a mountain guide should be. He's constantly making sure his group is learning and having a good time - while simultaneously making sure everyone is safe and optimally healthy. His sense of optimism is contagious. He knows when to gently push people to achieve their goals and when to protect health and well-being. He is trained in helicopter rescue, so he is a trusted resource for literally every part of the EBC experience. The love and respect that teahouse owners and other guides show him on the trail is testament to his character, his energy and leadership style. I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention our porters - the sometimes silent heroes of any Nepal adventure. Our porters Singman and Ngima matched the energy and positivity of Basu and made the difference every day as we trekked to higher and higher altitudes. I always felt cared for - but more importantly, I always felt the energy and guidance from Basu and team to overcome any obstacle and achieve my dream. My thanks to Basu, Subash and team cannot be overstated. And I'm excited for you, TripAdvisor reader and potential future EBC trekker, to experience what I experienced with Exciting Nepal. Book with them and go already! :)

Well-organised tour to EBC

29-Jun-2020

We did Everest Base Camp Trek with helicopter return with Exciting Nepal in October. Subash, the owner of Exciting Nepal, handled all communication. Before our trip, he was always polite, responsive and helpful, often replying to our emails late into the evenings. It made organisation a breeze. Before we left for Lukla, he requested for all of us to send him our travel insurance details, so he can help organise an evacuation if the need arises, which I thought was useful. Thankfully, all of us had no such requirements. Our guide, Basu, was professional and friendly. He’s got a super poker face and you can never tell when he is joking or not, which makes for an often funny conversation. He was feeling under the weather during our hike, but he never let his illness get in the way of providing good service. He was encouraging throughout the trip and helpful. He is very knowledgeable and dependable, making sure to check in with each of us each day to see how we were feeling. 5* for Basu. Our porters, Tez, Bhim and Kumar, were super awesome and dependable. They took great care of our group during the 9 days and we are truly appreciative of their hard work. They led us for one of our acclimatisation hikes, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to know them better (as they do not walk at our glacial speed). The one thing I felt could be better, is for Subash to list the accommodation (Access Nepal) in Kathmandu on the website or upfront when we confirmed the trip, vs having to request for the information. Other than that, I would engage their services for future trips.

Adventurous Everest Trek with Exciting Nepal

29-Jun-2020

After my 14 Everest Base Camp trek with Exciting Nepal this spring, I’m assured that Exciting Nepal is the best travel company in Nepal. We, a group of old friends decided to go to Everest Base Camp via trekking. We searched the internet and contacted Exciting Nepal. We loved how our queries were promisingly answered. Then we decided to go with exciting Nepal. It was in February that we contacted Exciting Nepal and they arranged an amazing EBC trek in April saying it was a great time to go. And it was! Our welcome in Nepal was great. Ram, a representative from Exciting Nepal was waiting for us with his big smile at the airport. He escorted us to our hotel where we met Hari, our guide during the trek. The trek started with a thrilling flight to Lukla. Believe me, I felt my heart pounding as we landed in Lukla. Every single day on the trek was equally exciting. We were having the best time of our life in Everest. At some points on the trek, we felt less in energy. However, Shyam, our guide was always there motivating us with his funny jokes and stories. Our Everest base camp trekking experience with exciting Nepal was remarkable. We are so impressed that we are coming back to Nepal on our next holiday for another trek with Exciting Nepal. Thank you, Mr. Subash, Keep amazing us!

Everest Base Camp Trek experience with Exciting Nepal

29-Jun-2020

My first trek in Nepal Annapurna Base Camp was three years before with different company and guide. Compare to that part of service with recent trek experience with Exciting Nepal trek of Everest Base Camp Trek has vast different. Very responsible manager, knowledgeable guide with Good English Speaking, Very Helpful Porter. Taking good care of food and accommodations during the trek. We flew to Lukla than start my trek. After the breakfast at Lukla, we did not feel any tiredness with guide Ram during the trek. He was so helpful, talkative and well knowledged local person giving me all the information along the trek. He was charming, smiling all most all the time. That 09 days trek was comfortable, and I enjoyed a lot with his company. We had a great time during the rest at Namche and Dingboche, from Dingboche we trek up to the Chukung valley was another great experience. Hiking up to Kalaptthar was great; What a view of Mt. Everest and surrounding the other high mountain. From the Everest Base Camp we can see the fantastic view of glaciers and Mt. Everest. However, there was no view of Mt. Everest Peak from the Everest Base Camp as it can be seen from Kala Patthar. After coming back from the Base Camp to the Gorekshep, I decided to quit the trek and catch a Helicopter provided by the company to the Lukla and the next morning I flew back to Kathmandu. Subash helped again to change my flight ticket to Kathmandu was 4 Days earlier than the original itinerary.
