Day 1 : Arrive In Beaune

Wander the streets of Beaune and marvel at the multi coloured roofs of the
15th Century Hospices de Beaune. Overnight at the perfectly located Hotel Le
Central and take your pick from the plethora of local restaurants nearby
*(Staying at Hotel Le Central)*

Day 2 : Beaune To Gevrey-Chambertin 42Km/26.5Mi Or 45Km/28.5Mi

Meals Included: breakfast, dinner

This morning, perhaps pay a visit to the lovely 18th century chateau at
Pommard before continuing past pretty Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny. You
might like to take a short detour to visit Savigny-les- Beaune too, with its
collection of vintage cars, motorbikes and planes, or to spend some time in
the Parc de la Bouzaise in Beaune before lunch in the world-famous
Nuits-Saint-Georges. In the afternoon your route leads you on to the 16th
century Chateau du Clos de Vougeot before the final stretch through
Vosne-Romanee (home of the world's most expensive wine), Chambolle-Musigny
and Morey-Saint-Denis to your hotel, a lovingly restored former winery in
Gevrey-Chambertin. *(*Staying at Rotisserie du Chambertin*)*

Day 3 : At Gevrey-Chambertin

Meals Included: breakfast, dinner

Today, visit the ancient city of Dijon, just 8 minutes away by rail. Here see
the Church of Notre Dame, the 12th century-15th century timbered houses, the
cathedral with its 1,000-year-old crypt, and the Palace of the Dukes of
Burgundy along with a host of museums and other sights. *(*Staying at
Rotisserie du Chambertin*)*

Day 4 : Gevrey-Chambertin To Sainte-Sabine 50Km/31.5Mi Or 54Km/34Mi

Meals Included: breakfast, dinner

Leave the vines behind and cycle up through the Combe Lavaux - Jean Roland
nature reserve to appreciate stunning views across meadows to the Ouche River
valley. Then it's freewheeling all the way along quiet country lanes, past
fields of wheat and rapeseed to Fleurey- Ouche and the famous Canal de
Bourgogne. Here you'll experience gentle pedalling along towpaths and
greenways between the canal and the peaceful River Ouche. Lunch can be
enjoyed with a picnic by the water's edge in any number of sleepy riverside
villages, at a cafe-restaurant in a former lockkeeper's cottage, or even
before or after a visit to the Chateau de Barbirey with its superb gardens.
The ride ends at the 18th century Chateau Sainte-Sabine, where you can stroll
in the gardens then sit on the terrace savouring an aperitif before dinner.
*(Staying at Chateau Sainte Sabine)*

Day 5 : At Sainte-Sabine

Meals Included: breakfast, dinner

Today's route is a lovely circular ride taking in two famous Burgundy
chateaux. The first is the Chateau de Chateauneuf in the incredible medieval
village of Chateauneuf-en-Auxois. Clearly visible from the hotel in
Sainte-Sabine, Chateauneuf-en-Auxois is perched high on the hilltop with its
15th century fortress and 12th century keep. Then, cycling down country
lanes, you come to the village of Commarin with its magnificent moated
chateau, a site of importance since the early 13th century. *(Staying at
Chateau Sainte Sabine)*

Day 6 : Sainte-Sabine To Beaune

Meals Included: breakfast

Pass countryside and quiet farming villages to the ancient town of
Bligny-sur-Ouche with its 12th century church, 15th century tower and twelve
water mills. After crossing the River Ouche, a short climb leads you to
Montceau-et-Echarnant, next to which lies the tiny Templar church of Saint
John the Baptist, where the ground is paved with the gravestones of Templar
Knights. From here it's downhill through meadows and woodland to the village
of Nantoux, and then back out into the vines. The adventurous can take one
last climb to enjoy spectacular views from the Hautes-Cotes de Beaune but
both roads lead back to delightful Pommard where final wine tastings can be
had at the chateau before heading back to the hotel in Beaune. *(Staying in
Hotel Le Central)*

Food

France is a country renowned for its food and wine and this trip should give you the full flavour of Burgundy. Suggestions of what to do for lunch are in the cycling notes. Self-guided cycling lends itself perfectly to picnics, it is always a good option to pick up some local produce and then pick a spot along your route to stop and eat it. For dinner you will be spoilt for choice; Burgundians are passionate about both their food and wine. Boeuf Bourguignon (a stew with beef in red wine), Escargots à la Bourgogne (snails) and Coq au Vin (chicken braised with wine) are arguably the most famous exports but the prime local ingredients are expertly showcased in countless mouthwatering dishes. Common main ingredients are pigeon, quail, boar, venison and freshwater fish. You will find many small, independent suppliers offering local pates, cheese, sausages and mustard, synonymous with Dijon. Food markets are a delight to visit - support for individual artisan food producers is something the region excels in.

Very helpful and prompt service

06-Jan-2023

Very helpful and prompt service. I called to check for an already booked trip and once we sorted this, the agent was ready to help me with another booking as well. He actually waited for me to book my flight tickets, answered all my questions, informed me of all my options. Exodus is a tour company I am using regularly due to the quality of their trips, ease of booking and helpfulness of their customer service team

Stunning walking. Walking the Amalfi Coast

04-Nov-2021

This trip takes you through the most beautiful parts of the Mediterranean walking with a guide and also discovering the wonders of Pompeii and Vesuvius. The hotel had a nice feel as family run, spotless and comfortable rooms, we were well looked after for breakfasts and dinner each day, and the barmen fixed some mean cocktails for us.!

It's amazing what you can do in a week! Cycling the Dalmatian Coast.

08-Oct-2021

This holiday was extremely enjoyable. The itinerary is well planned and the route takes you to a variety of destinations. Not having been to Croatia before I didn't know there were so many beautiful small islands and I loved the ferry and catarmaran rides. The coastal route we took was dramatic and the World Heritage sites in Split and Dubrovnik very interesting and worth visiting. The Adriatic Sea was warm, blue and inviting, good for swimming even in October. The hotels we stayed in varied in size from medium to large. I particularly liked the one just outside Dubrovnik as I had a sea view. Tourists were plentiful in Split and Dubrovnik but in the other places we stayed there was an end of season feel and it was quiet on the roads and in the resorts. The food was good and our guide was always able to recommend a nice restaurant for our evening meal. The weather in October was good for cycling - not hot, partly cloudy most days and one day it rained!

Fabulous company and trip

06-Jan-2023

We went overland from Cape Town to Zimbabwe through Botswana and Namibia. What a fantastic trip. Our first time with Exodus although we have travelled extensively around the world. We would highly recommend this company for such a brilliant trip - we got everything and more all at a good price. Thanks to everyone involved. We are looking at our next trip!

I went cycling in Albania with exodus as my first holiday with them. Such a well organised and wonderful experience where I met multiple fellow travellers who have been advocates of them for many years. You can't argue with happy repeat customers and I'm planning my next adventure with them soon

I'v just come back from...

17-Jul-2022

I'v just come back from an amazing Wildlife & Wilderness trip in Botswana and I highly recommend Exodus Travels. Our guide Brian, was extremely knowledgeable on both the wildlife and history of Botswana and neighbouring countries. The other three staff, Abbis, Chief & Mr T, who accompanied us through out our 2 week trip, put in the hard work and made sure our camp was always prepared and that we we're well fed and looked after. The tour took us to some beautiful places and we saw some amazing wildlife, and on several occasions this was due to Brian's knowledge of the area and wildlife behaviour. Exodus have been very quick to respond to any queries I had, and the whole experience ran smoothly. I was also pleased to hear that during lockdown they provided staff with food packages 👍. I'd normally go on self organised trips, however, with this trip, the tour and guide Brian took us to places not possible otherwise and showed us things that we would'v missed out on. All of which were the highlights of the tour.

I've done 8 trips in...

17-May-2023

I've done 8 trips in the last 14 years with Exodus, and have been rewarded with a 10% discount on all future bookings. I feel very confident that I'll receive pleasant, efficient service, and have the unusual holiday experience that I'm looking for each time. I've trekked to the top of snow-capped peaks, wild-camped in the desert, seen amazing spectacles of nature, visited 4 capital cities in a week, and learned about local culture and experienced local hospitality in a way that I simply wouldn't on a conventional holiday. The quality of the accommodation and guides can vary, but this is mainly down to cultural differences and things that Exodus can't control. I've only ever complained once, my complaint was taken seriously, and I was sent a discount voucher - you can't say fairer than that. I remain a loyal customer.

Food came quickly. Staff very friendly and polite . However the chef or person preparing the food did not seem to read the menu! If it says a meal should come with vegetables, you should not have to ask for them. They served shepherds pie with garlic bread! The munchies ice cream sundae said it should come in a glass with a flake but came in a little bowl with just a few munchies! When asking the staff were happy to replace and correct but customer should get what they order and what menu says first time round!!

If you like to be mistreated Exodus is perfect for you. If you enjoy terrible choices for hotels and pseudo restaurants Exodus is perfect for you. Careless about their clients and loveless about their propositions. Exodus has been a dissatisfaction and disappointment about every dealing i and my group have had with him. Especially a man called Simone who just cares about the money he can get from you couldn’t care less about service.
