Day 1 : Start Amman

Location: Amman

Accommodation: Hotel

We start at our hotel in Amman on day 1 of the itinerary.  Those on the

group flights from London will arrive in the evening.  Land only clients

need to provide their flight details if they would like to receive a free

arrival transfer. Your expert leader, Muayad Mismar, will leave instructions

for you at the hotel. Premium accommodation: Crown Plaza Hotel, Amman (5

star)

Day 2 : Visit Jerash With Your Expert Guide Followed By An Amman City Tour

Meals Included: breakfast, dinner

This morning we drive north to the awe-inspiring, ruined city of Jerash,
known as Gerasa in ancient times, and awash with imposing colonnades, ancient
temples and theatres. This was one of the ten wealthy, self-governing cities
of the Decapolis during Roman times, and was famous throughout the Roman
world for its affluent lifestyle. Buried for centuries under blown sand,
Jerash is the only city of the Decapolis to have survived, with a dramatic
oval forum, colonnaded main streets which remarkably have the drains still
intact, two theatres and the impressive Temple of Zeus. After a good look
around, we head back to Amman for an exciting city tour where we’ll visit
notable ancient sites such as the Citadel, Roman Theatre and the old city.
Take in the striking views of the capital of the Kingdom of Jordan from the
heady hights of the Citadel complex. This evening we enjoy a welcome dinner at
a local restaurant and sample some traditional Jordanian food. Premium
accommodation: Crown Plaza Hotel, Amman (5 star)

Day 3 : Drive Down King's Highway To Petra Via Mt Nebo, Madaba & Kerak

Meals Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Today we head along the famous King's Highway, an old trade route which
connects Amman and Petra, weaving up and down huge 'wadis' (valleys). There
are several stops of interest en route, including the ancient town of Madaba,
known as the city of the mosaics; the biblical Mt Nebo where Moses was
believed to have witnessed the Promised Land; and the crusader castle of
Kerak which stands on a rocky outcrop.Further south we reach the UNESCO World
Heritage Site of Petra; Jordan's premier historic site and one of the world's
most outstanding ancient cities. Also known as the rose-red city, Petra is a
phenomenal sandstone city made up of ornate palaces, temples and tombs that
are carved into the cliffs. Your expert leader will reveal all about the
history of this spectacular ancient city.Premium accommodation: Old Village
Hotel & Resort, Petra (5 star)

Day 4 - 5 : Two Days To Explore The Expansive Sights Of Petra

Meals Included: breakfast, lunch

Enjoy two days exploring the striking Nabatean Kingdom of Petra, known as
rose-red city, 'half as old as time'. Petra was hidden for centuries until
the Swiss explorer Burckhardt made his great discovery in 1812. Two features
of Petra are unique: firstly, it is a city made defensible by being built
down a series of chasms, rather than on a hilltop. Secondly, it is built
directly into the rock - beautiful red and yellow sandstone carved into the
most impressive facades which sparkle in sunlight. To enter Petra your expert
leader, Muayad, will take you down a narrow chasm, known as the Siq,
surrounded by high cliffs on either side. Explore the wondrous Al Khazneh, an
elaborate temple known as The Treasury which was once inhabited by the Arabs
of the Nabatean Kingdom. This is just the first of many wonderful sites to
explore. Continuing to the centre of the city, we pass the houses and visit
the tombs of the rich citizens. Witness the vastness and sheer beauty of this
ancient city from various vantage points. There is also an optional walk up
850 steps to El Deir, a monumental monastery carved out of rock.On the second
day your leader will take you into the site either for an optional hike up to
the High Place of Sacrifice, a clifftop sacrificial altar with immense views
over Petra, or for free time to explore the city further. Only a few people
attempt a visit to the High Place as it can be quite arduous and is not
recommended for those who are unsure of their fitness or are uncomfortable
with heights. However, those who do make it to the top are rewarded with
wonderful views over parts of the site visited on the previous day.Premium
accommodation: Old Village Hotel & Resort, Petra (5 star)

Day 6 : Drive To Aqaba; Relax By The Red Sea

Meals Included: breakfast

This morning there is the option to take a guided tour through the intriguing
archaeological site of Little Petra or you can relax at our premium
accommodation before we join the modern Desert Highway and make our way south
to Aqaba, Jordan’s only coastal city, on the Red Sea. The purpose of
Little Petra is not clear, however, archaeologists believe it was probably a
suburb of Petra where visiting traders on the silk route may have
stayed. Aqaba is Jordan's picturesque port famous for its beautiful coral
reefs, ancient ruins and stunning scenery. Our hotel has a private white-sand
beach with direct access to the Red Sea where you can dip your toes in the
water and absorb the coastal views. The day is free to relax and enjoy the
facilities of this 5-star hotel. Meet for a sundowner overlooking the sea
before heading out for dinner at one of the exceptional restaurants in Aqaba.
Enjoy a taste of the traditional Jordanian cuisine and sample some of the
fresh, local seafood, which is a speciality in the area.Premium
accommodation: Intercontinental Hotel, Aqaba (5 star)

Day 7 : Explore Wadi Rum From The Comfort Of The Unique Ufo Camp

Meals Included: breakfast, dinner

Today we enter the natural and cultural World Heritage Site of Wadi Rum where
dramatic sandstone mountains rise from the sandy desert floor. This is where
Lawrence of Arabia and Prince Faisal assembled the Arab tribes for the attack
on Aqaba in the First World War and also where sections of the 1962 epic film
were shot. After checking into our premium UFO camp, we join a thrilling,
4-hour 4x4 jeep trip to explore some of the highlights of this protected
area. The spellbinding Wadi Rum is a favourite of Muayad’s, your expert
leader, and his passion and knowledge of the desert landscape is unmatched.
Experience an authentic Zarb dinner (cooked underground) at our Bedouin camp
and relax beneath the stars above your premium unique dome pod.Premium
accommodation: UFO Camp, Wadi Rum (5 star)

Day 8 : Drive From Wadi Rum To The Dead Sea And Enjoy A Float

Meals Included: breakfast, dinner

Leaving the Mars-like landscape of Wadi Rum we head to the Dead Sea which is
one of the most fascinating places on earth. Enjoy free time to experience
floating in the saline waters and smothering yourself in Dead Sea mud before
cooling off in one of the two infinity pools at our premium accommodation. A
totally relaxing way to end your Jordan adventure. This evening there will
be a memorable group dinner to celebrate your time in Jordan and say your
farewells. Premium accommodation: Hilton Dead Sea Hotel & Spa, Dead Sea (5
star)

Day 9 : Trip Ends At The Dead Sea.

Meals Included: breakfast

Your tour ends this morning after breakfast at the Dead Sea.

Accommodation

Accommodation on this cultural adventure in Jordan comprises premium hotels and a luxury Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum. We typically stay in standard-level rooms and, when we’re not out exploring the wonders of Jordan, enjoy plenty of five-star amenities. Below are the hotels we normally use on this trip.

Amman: InterContinental Amman (nights 1-2)

Ease into the trip with two nights at this five-star hotel, which overlooks the white city of Amman. Enjoy a cocktail by the outdoor pool or book yourself into the spa, which has an indoor pool, hot tub and steam rooms. Foodies should love their time here, with a variety of restaurants available, including the award-winning Bourj Al Hamam, which serves delectable Lebanese dishes.

Petra: Grand Mercure Petra or Old Village Resort (nights 3-5)

In Petra, we either stay at the Grand Mercure or the Old Village Resort (above), both five-star properties. The former is reminiscent of a fortress, occupying an elevated position with plenty of dreamy views over the Rift Valley. It also has a pool, a Bedouin tent with more valley views, and a Mediterranean restaurant. The latter offers spectacular views over the mountains, plus rooms showcasing the work of local artisans. There are indoor and outdoor pools too, plus a restaurant serving local, Middle Eastern and European dishes.

Wadi Rum: Saraya luxury camp (night 6)

Surrounded by sandstone peaks, this luxury camp provides an authentic Bedouin adventure in the heart of the Wadi Rum desert. The level of comfort is undoubtedly among the best in the area; each of the sleeping cabins has a well-fitted bathroom, heating and air conditioning. There’s also a restaurant where the chefs embrace traditional cooking techniques plus beautiful sunsets to enjoy most evenings.

Aqaba: Hyatt Regency Aqaba Ayla Resort (night 7)

Relax at this five-star Hyatt Regency, an amenity-packed waterside resort. Enjoy leisure time in the expansive pool, sip cocktails with marina views at Cascades pool bar, and dine in one of the many excellent eateries. The 285 modern rooms all have a terrace with peace-inducing views over the lagoons and the mountains or marina.

Dead Sea: Hilton Dead Sea Hotel & Spa (night 8)

Enjoy five-star treatment at the lowest point on land with a stay at this Hilton hotel. There’s direct access to the beach (where you’ll find the only floating pontoon in the area) or order a fresh juice or draft beer at the swim-up bar in one of the infinity pools.

We had a truly wonderful time travelling around Jordan. Our trip was really enhanced by our fabulous guide, Muayad, who made every day very special as he made huge efforts to provide us with unique insights into Jordanian life and history. It was Ramadan when we travelled and it was not easy to provide meals during the day, buy Muayad worked his magic and we had some fantastic picnic spots eating Jordanian breads, hummus and other local treats. Muayad was incredibly knowledgeable and I feel I have returned to the UK with a deeper understanding of the Jordanian culture and history. The whole trip was meticulously planned and every day had superb highlights, such as camel riding in Wadi Rum, trekking up to the Monastery at Petra, the first glimpse of the Treasury at Petra and the incredible Roman ruins at Jerash. We packed so much into a week but didn't ever feel rushed.

What an incredible trip! Even though we had been lucky enough to visit Petra some ten years ago, we wanted to come back to explore the country further. Everything we did was very well organised and planned. The hotels were great as was the food. The evenings spent in local restaurants with our guide were brilliant, especially loved the evening walk round Aqaba. Jordan is a lovely country facing challenges, but with so much history!

Exploring the city of Amman and seeing the roman Amphitheatre and seeing the ruins in Jerash. The country is mostly sand and it is beautiful. My tour guide Abdullah is very talented. He is the best tour guide I have had and I have travel with other tour companies and had other tour guides. After leaving the city and making the way towards Petra, we drove on The King’s High way. Petra was amazing as the weather was mostly good as there was flooding and heavy rain on one of the day and I loved seeing the local sites the shops and the food are out of this world. The Red Sea and the Dead Sea was also great and I loved swimming in both of them. Wadi Rum and the Jeep Safari was awesome and inspiring. I loved the trip and would recommend it very much to everyone. Jordan is a place you would want to visit and should be on your check list.

I always find that Exodus trips deliver more than I expect and this was no different. I booked the trip focused on Petra and the UFO camp but have found the country to be so culturally rich and interesting. Our guide - Abdullah was ridiculously knowledgeable about Jordan and it’s history and it was a pleasure to learn so much about the country.

This was my first adventure with Exodus Travels (though I have traveled multiple times with a similar small group adventure travel company) and overall I was quite happy with everything. I chose this tour over other tours of Jordan offered by other companies for a few key reasons. Firstly, the premium accommodations used, secondly, that it had two days in Petra, and lastly, that it visited Aqaba. I have some feedback related to these points. Though I was quite satisfied with most of the hotels, I and most of the group were quite disappointed with the rooms at Old Village Petra and felt we'd been duped. The picture of the room shown on the website in no way reflects the actual rooms we stayed in which were much more basic. And a little research found that there is only one such room at the resort so a group of 16 would never be able to all have such a room. Please change the picture advertised to reflect the true accommodation provided. As for Aqaba, I was disappointed to hear from our leader that there would be nothing to see if we snorkelled off the beach at our hotel. That was the one thing I wanted to do in Aqaba, snorkel in the Red Sea. Muayad told us about a beach south of Aqaba we could go to independently that had excellent snorkelling just off the beach. Those of us that chose to go were so happy he told us about it and wished we could have gone back the next day. I also found I would have loved to have had more time in Aqaba to walk around the city and enjoy the hotel. I think this could be facilitated by going from Petra to Wadi Rum to Aqaba rather than Petra to Aqaba to Wadi Rum then back via Aqaba to reach the Dead Sea. It would result in more time in Wadi Rum, more time in Aqaba and more time in Dead Sea. That might be my one real criticism of the tour is that it felt rushed and besides Petra, just not enough time in each destination.

Great trip but very very busy. Arrive at hotel at 1.30 am and then an 8.30 start the following morning. Then 3 consecutive early morning starts and long-upto 13 hour days. Sites visited are all great but not really any opportunities for downtime or to use the hotel facilities.
