Tour Overview

“Laced with trails first carved in the Middle Ages and used by mules to transport goods between villages, the hills and mountains of Amalfi offer some of the very best hiking in all the Mediterranean.” Washington Post Our 4-day Amalfi Coast Trekking will let you discover the beauties of the area, away from the crowd and traffic. We will hike along mountain paths and old mule tracks that connect all the villages and towns of the Amalfi Coast. This is an itinerary designed for you to visit and get to know the Amalfi Coast on foot. Walk through paths used for centuries to transport goods and food from one village to another, to sell the products of the land in the markets. We will go from a town in the mountains to a seaside village; we will visit Churches and Museums; we will know the history of these places that have seen the passage of European and Mediterranean civilizations; without forgetting one of the most important moments of every trip: food and wine!! We will stay in different accommodation: hotel, B&B, hostel. Possibility of being able to swim almost every day. We will travel along the chain of the Lattari Mountains: starting from Cava de’ Tirreni, we will pass through the millenary Benedictine Abbey, up to the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell’Avvocata, overlooking the Amalfi Coast. The Amalfi Coast Trekking tour will allow us to visit the seaside villages of Maiori, Minori and Atrani; the first Maritime Republic of Italy: Amalfi; the ancient Ravello and its marvelous Villas. We will walk on the spectacular Path of Gods, arriving in the “Vertical City” of Positano, a favorite destination of the jet set, both Italian and foreigner. A certain physical level is required for these five days of walking; every day we will walk between 8 to12 km, both uphill and downhill. Contact us for detailed information on our 4-day Amalfi Coast Trekking Tour. Included in the price is the transportation from the hotel to the Abbey of Cava de’ Tirreni, where the trek begins, and from Positano, where the trek ends, to your hotel.

Day 1 : Visit The Benedictine Abbey - Hike Mount Avvocata - Maiori (10 Km)
Location: Cava de' Tirreni, Amalfi Coast, Maiori
Accommodation: Hostel, Hotel
Meals Included: Lunch

Morning pick-up from your hotel or prearranged meeting point to the 11th-century Benedictine Abbey of Cava de’ Tirreni.

We begin with a guided tour of the Abbey visiting its cloister, catacombs and small museum. Afterwards, we start our trek towards the so called Old Chapel (max. 1,5 hrs), half way to Mount Avvocata.
Trekking Mount Avvocata is a classic route with stunning views over the Gulf of Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. Every Monday, after the Christian holiday of Pentecost, the Monastery on Mount Avvocata is reached by thousands of pilgrims from Cava de’ Tirreni and Maiori to renew their devotion to the Virgin Mary.

It starts at 380 meters above sea level hiking through chestnut woods, oak forests, with olive groves, lemon trees, and pastures in the Mediterranean bush. The trail leads over a rocky ridge to the west from which you will arrive at the top of Mount Avvocata at 1014 meters above sea level, and reach the Sanctuary; take in the views, have your lunch and rest, before taking the downhill path that will take us in the center of Maiori, where the first day ends.

Meals Included: Boxed Lunch.

Day 2 : Visit Maiori, Minori, Ravello, Atrani & Amalfi (8 Km)
Location: Maiori, Minori, Ravello, Atrani, Amalfi, Amalfi Coast
Accommodation: Hostel, Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, we begin our second day on the Lattari Mountains.
From Maiori we walk via the Lemons' Trail through the picturesque villages of Minori, Ravello, Atrani and Amalfi.
In Minori, we will stop at De Riso pastry shop for an excellent slice of lemon cake of the Amalfi Coast.

Then, through ancient stairs we will first reach Ravello, where we can take a coffee in the elegant Piazza Duomo, and after we will reach the beautiful Atrani, set in the rock; finally, through a comfortable and unique path between the roofs and the courtyards of the houses, we will arrive in the center of the queen of the coast, the magnificent Amalfi where you can visit the Duomo or simply stroll among the many shops of the ancient historical center.

Transfer back to Maiori, to our overnight accommodation.

Meals included: Breakfast, and Boxed Lunch.

Day 3 : Visit The Mills' Valley, Hike Through Chestnut Forets To Reach Agerola (10 Km).
Location: Riserva Statale Valle delle Ferriere, Amalfi, Agerola
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, we take a transfer back to Amalfi and walk up to reach the trail to Mills’ Valley.

Here we climb the ancient stairs and paths amid lemon trees full of springs and waterfalls amid high cliffs. Within the deep valley we will see several examples of industry from as early as the 10th century, such as the remains of an old aqueduct and ironworks. There are also ruins of several paper factories that remain one of the few links to the history of wealth and power of the medieval Republic of Amalfi.

The Valley of the Mills is a subtropical microclimate where you may find Cyclamen, Wild Orchids, Pterris vittata, Pinguicula hirtiflora (a carnivorous plant), Woodwardia Radicans, and Erica terminalis (a rare species of the giant fern which has its origins in the tertiary period).

Time to get on another trail that will take us up to the town of Agerola, where we will spend the night.

Overnight accommodation.
Today we walk 10 km.

Meals included: Breakfast, and Boxed Lunch.

Day 4 : Path Of Gods Hike & Positano (12 Km)
Location: Bomerano, Nocelle, Positano
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast we enjoy a pleasant hike on the most famous trail on the Amalfi Coast: the Path of the Gods (Italian: Sentiero degli Dei). Walking across the mountainside, at the foot of the Sant’Angelo a Tre Pizzi mountain, we will admire one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world.

The path starts from the square in the hamlet of Bomerano in Agerola. The first part offers outstanding views of Praiano, Positano, Li Galli islets, and Capri. We also see the Grotta Biscotto, an old shepherds' shelter, built into the rock and inhabited since Prehistoric times.

Along the way we walk in the shade of elm and oak trees surrounded by myrtle and juniper. We cross wild precipices full of caves and small vineyards. Here is where the ped’ e palomma grapes are harvested.

During the guided hike, we meet a local shepherd who will share with us a selection of locally sourced produce and a glass of red wine.

Within 3 hours we reach the small village of Nocelle with Monte Pertuso in front of us. The path ends with 2,000 steps going down, arriving in the center of Positano. Once there, you may choose to wander its narrow streets or enjoy an espresso and pastry at a local cafe.

Transfer to overnight accommodation.
Today we walk 12 km.

Meals included: Breakfast, and Boxed Lunch.

Path of the Gods

I have had several experiences with this group, one more beautiful than the other and all with success. Professionalism, experience and support are part of this ideal group for young people, but also, for not so young people, ideal for those who have or do not have experience, because the guides are spectacular people attentive to all needs. I will continue with them on the next tour. I would not change them for anything else.

Experience what you will love with your heart, eyes and legs! To be amazed by the beauty that is experienced and encountered step by step. Breathtaking scenery. The suggestive dinner at the shepherd's hut, to say the least moving! The return at night is fun and exciting, the perfect conclusion to a wonderful journey. The guide, a champion of excellence in all respects who leaves nothing to chance. Perfect organization down to the millimeter.

Great! Gaetano was an excellent tour guide . He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of the areas we visited and was able to provide us with a true southern Italy experience. We would recommend this particular tour to anyone and will probably do it again.

I would like to say a few words to praise Gaetano Barone, who accompanied and guided me on more than one excursion. Gaetano is a precious, safe and reliable guide. His knowledge of the places is not bookish, but denotes his complete familiarity with them. Listening to him while he integrates his driving activity with precise explanations, one feels that they come out of a constant and profitable frequency of the territory. His ability to lead the group is evident in the discreet, but firm and effective ways in which he controls and, if necessary, intervenes to put a stop to any recklessness or flight forward of some insubordinate element (it happens, sometimes ... With Gaetano Barone as a guide, no one runs the risk of being left to himself. In him, the trekker in difficulty can always count, he will always find, on occasion, a sure support both physical and moral. In conclusion, trust without thinking twice about Gaetano Barone.

I had the great pleasure of having Gaetano as a guide on The Gods' Path, on the Amalfi Coast a few days ago. Gaetano is nice, kind and friendly. He is always ready to help if you were in difficulties on quite a challenging trail. He is experienced and skilled and has great competence of legends, myths, history and natural environment of the places we went through. The landscape is awesome and spectacular, something anyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
