Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1 : Days 1-3 - London, Vevey And Lavaux Vineyards
From London St Pancras, we take the Eurostar to Paris,
continuing by rail to Vevey where we spend three nights. Set on the
shores of Lake Geneva, surrounded by mountains, Vevey is considered
a 'Pearl of the Swiss Riviera'. Enjoy a free day on Day
2. Stroll down the palm and cypress tree-lined promenade,
which runs to neighbouring Montreux, to visit Château de
Chillon.
We travel to Cully on Day 3, in the Lavaux
wine-growing region, where verdant vineyards rise from the lake. A
local land train takes us through the pathways of the UNESCO-listed
hills before we're treated to a wine tasting at a nearby vineyard.
This afternoon is free in Vevey. The Swiss are known for their
cheese, so take the opportunity to sample traditional cheese fondue
or raclette.
Day 2 : Days 4-6 - The Goldenpass, Lake Lucerne And Mount Rigi
We travel to Montreux to join the GoldenPass train, a
golden-hued train which recreates the Belle Époque style of the
1930s. We enjoy views of rolling vineyards, traditional chalets,
and dramatic peaks on our way to Interlaken. We transfer to Lucerne
for three nights, a German-speaking town famous for the
Kapellbrücke, or Chapel Bridge, the oldest wooden bridge in Europe.
Inside, a series of paintings depict the city's history, which you
could admire during a free day on Day 5.
We board a boat on Day 6 for a scenic sailing
to Vitznau. From here, we join the Mount Rigi Mountain Railway, the
first mountain railway in Europe. We travel to Rigi Kulm, the
highest peak of Mount Rigi, where we're rewarded with views of
sprawling lakes and endless mountain peaks.
Day 3 : Days 7-9 - Gotthard Express, Lake Como And Villa Balbianello
We sail across Lake Lucerne to Fluelen to join the William Tell
Express. Enjoy the scenery from the panoramic windows as frosty
mountains are replaced by the floral-filled promenades of the
Italian lake district. We arrive in Lugano and take a coach to
Cadenabbia by Lake Como, where we spend four nights. You have a
free day on Day 8. Maybe try Italy's famous
cuisine. Alongside fantastic pizza and pasta, you'll find plenty of
local specialities in the cosy cafés here.
On Day 9 we cruise to Lenno and Villa
Balbianello. We have a guided tour of the elegant 18th-century
mansion, seeing the sumptuous interiors and beautiful Italianate
gardens. After, there's free time to explore the villa, or head
into Lenno, where you'll find charming cafés, and historic
churches.
Day 4 : Days 10-12 - The Bernina Express, Turin And London
We enjoy a trip on the Bernina Express to glamorous St Moritz.
Our journey on the 100-year-old line takes us through flower-filled
Alpine meadows, clinging to the mountainside as we loop past
ravines and rushing waterfalls. You have some free time in St
Moritz to grab a coffee in a chic café or browse the shopping
boutiques. We return by coach, pausing in the beautiful mountain
town of Chiavenna for some free time.
On Day 11 we take a coach to Milan for the
train to Turin, where we spend the night. On Day
12 we continue to Paris for the Eurostar to London St
Pancras.
