Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1 - London And Roses
Meet your Tour Manager at our dedicated departure office at
London St Pancras today before boarding the Eurostar service to
Paris where we change trains taking us down through France and
across the border to Spain. We stop in Figueres from where we
transfer to our hotel in Roses, and enjoy dinner.
Day 2 - Girona
Our excursion today takes us to Girona, where we enjoy a walking
tour followed by free time to look around. A well-preserved example
of a Spanish medieval town, Girona's bustling streets are home to a
treasure trove of winding alleys, colourful buildings, and diverse
galleries and museums. The cathedral is well worth seeing, and was
used as a mosque by Moorish rulers before being re-purposed as a
church.
Day 3 : Days 3-4 - The Little Yellow Train Of The Pyrenees And Roses
We travel by coach to Villefranche, in the French Pyrenees,
where there's free time for lunch. Afterwards, we board the
charming Yellow Train for a wonderful round trip through the
dramatic Pyrenees, winding our way through magnificent scenery. A
route as famous for its engineering prowess as it is for its
stunning natural beauty, the Little Yellow Train crosses suspension
bridges and burrows under hills and tunnels on it merry way. Some
of the carriages are open-air, making this an excellent way to soak
up our surroundings.
Day 4 is free. You may wish to visit the quaint
fishing town of Cadaqués or relax on the beach in Roses.
Day 4 : Days 5-6 - Núria Valley Railway And Roses
We take a journey on the excellent Núria Valley Rack Railway
today. One of the only ways to access the valley, this rack railway
climbs seven miles from Ribes de Freser. The Núria Valley is a
tranquil oasis populated only by hikers visiting the religious
sanctuary here and the occasional sailing boat drifting across the
reservoir.
Enjoy some free time in Roses on Day 6 and head
into the heart of the town for lunch. Roses boasts some excellent
seafood and an abundance of charming pavement cafés. Later, we
transfer to the fishing port for an exclusive private tour. We
watch the fishing boats sail back into the dock before attending an
authentic fish auction. We learn about the techniques used by local
fisherman, as well as the species most commonly found in the waters
around Roses.
Day 7 - Figueres
Today we visit the classic Catalan town of Figueres, where
surrealist artist Salvador Dalí was born. With its stone buildings,
marble plazas, and impressive architecture, Figueres is a delight
to wander around. We visit the Salvador Dalí Foundation, dedicated
to the work of the city's favourite son. The museum is housed in an
old theatre, which Dali himself converted, and we discover many of
Dalí's creations, from his early years to final years. Back at the
hotel we enjoy an aperitif on the terrace before dinner.
Day 8 - London
We leave Roses and the Catalan Coast as we travel by rail to
Paris. On arrival, we change for the Eurostar, taking us back to
London St Pancras International.
Day 7 : Please Note
On late season departures, the journey on the Yellow Train is
replaced by an excursion on the Montserrat Railway. For more
details, please see website or call us.
For departures FYS2101
and FYS2101a the Yellow Train journey
isn't available due to engineering works, so this will be replaced
with a journey on the Montserrat Railway.
