Day 2: Muscat - Sur (B/L/-)

Today after breakfast at the hotel, your tour begins with the visit of the Grand Mosque (except Friday) & Bait Al Zubair Museum (except Friday) which is a brief introduction that traces Omans history and development. Later drive to Ras Al Jinz. your first stop will be at Bimah Sinkhole, a large limestone crater which has become a famous weekend getaway for locals too. From here you proceed to Wadi Shab or Wadi Tiwi and explore the wadi.

Upon arrival in check-in at the hotel.  Post an early dinner (By own), you will drive to Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve. Oman is a vital area for Green Turtles in the Indian Ocean and the Green Back Turtle are heavily protected by the government of the country. In fact, over 275 of the Sultanate's beaches double-up as nesting grounds for five of the seven recognized species of sea turtles, the most common being the Green Back Turtle. We are led to the beach by an ecologist to see the female Turtles return to their beach to lay eggs. (Please note that the main nesting season is Jun-Aug, at other times of the year, there may or not be turtles every night).

Overnight in Sur

You can experience the building process as traditional dhow is still built and you can have a close look at the manufacturing process. Post-visit you will drive to Wadi Bani Khalid. You stop here to relax a bit and enjoy a swim in the beautiful turquoise pools. (Change the Coach/Coaster to 4WD for your trip to Wahiba). This morning after breakfast at camp, your journey will take you to Nizwa. (Change the vehicle to Coach for your trip to Nizwa). Continue your journey to the oasis village of Bahla, the center of the pottery art in northern Oman. The village is surrounded by a 12 km mud wall that protects the palms and the fort (UNESCO world heritage site - photo stop from outside). Subsequently, visit the castle of Jabrin during Palms. It displays the Islamic art in perfection, and it was the residence of the Imam Bilarab in 17 Century. In Oman there are numerous caves, earlier of just as numerous Adventurers were visited. Afterward, you will visit the village Al Hamra, which is famous for its dark red clay two-story houses. On the surrounding one still sees on hills the isolated watchtowers. In the evening arrive Nizwa, the old capital in the 6th and 7th centuries with its Fort. You will visit \"Bait Al Safah\" at Al Hamra Al Bait, a castle built during the Al Yaaribah era, hundreds of years ago, consisting of four-story and well described in a book by the Omani scholar Yousuf Al Sharouni. Bait Al Safah exhibits of Omani traditional handicrafts reflecting the cultural variation of the Sultanate throughout its rich history. The traditional handicrafts are displayed in such a way as to reflect the changes and developments witnessed through time as well as their connection with the various daily life requirements.

Overnight in Nizwa

Day 5: Nizwa - Muscat (B/L/-)

Today enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and your day, visiting the cattle market (only on Fridays). Every Friday morning (only), the paved area in front of the souq is a bustle with people and activity. Reluctant goats, sheep, and pale brown cows brought to the market by their owners; impromptu stalls piled high with Kaleidoscopic colors of dresses, toys, pots, and pans. Follow the crowd and you will invariably be led to the open-air goat market under the palm trees. Pretty longhair Omani goats and woolly sheep are tethered, waiting patiently – or not so patiently – to be walked around the circle of potential buyers. Walk to the famous Fort of Nizwa lies in the center of the City. Continue your trip to Muscat via Birkat Al Mouj. You will walk through its oasis and date plantations before continuing to Nizwa. With the 2 sets of ruins, a large banana plantation, and the scenic surroundings, the site is also home to the old Falaj irrigation system listed as UNESCO World heritage.

After arriving Muscat, have your lunch at the local restaurant. Later you will proceed to the Muttrah. Drive along the waterfront corniche and take our first stop at the bustling Muttrah Souq. The colorful souq will take you at least a century back. After having enjoyed your time at the Souq, you have a short walk along the corniche with lots and lots of photo opportunities.  The “Frankincense burner” is a delight to watch in the night with its full illumination. We proceed for a photo stop to the magnificent Al Alam Palace, the official palace of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos flanked by the 16th-century Portuguese forts Mirani & Jalali.

Booked Mystical Egypt tour with them visiting Cairo and a 03 Nights Cruise from Luxor to Aswan in May. All services were perfect since the time we arrived at the airport, we were met by a hospitable Indus Representative who helped us with the purchase of local SIM and currency exchange. He was always there in time to assist for transfers. The Amwaj Cruise which we took from Luxor to Aswan was a Gem. We had great guides and all sightseeing worked like a clockwork. We enjoyed visiting Karnak Temples, Temples of Edfu, Kom Ombo and the boat ride to see Phillae Temple. Evening entertainment on cruise were great and engaging. In Cairo and Aswan, we had ample leisure time to explore on own, the Pyramids were impressive and visiting Khan e Khalili was fun. Overall and impressive and enjoyable tour, Thanks to Indus Travels!

Indus Travel runs a highly professional organization. From customer service to brochures, bookings, tour guides, etc. and the consideration for their customers is superb. This was the first time I had travelled with Indus Travels. We took the Taste of Portugal Tour. Group numbers are small, accommodation comfortable and food excellent. The expert guide who accompanied us was outstanding - passionate, informative, engaging, and entertaining. This company is obviously at the heart of the itinerary planning, and attention to detail is second to none. I would highly recommend this company to anyone wanting a fun, relaxed, educational vacation with fine food - they will deliver! We will never forget this trip and we are already planning for another one to Wonders of Italy, Vienna, Budapest, and Prague.

We were looking for a customized, small group tour. We took a chance on Indus without knowing much about the company. We just returned from our trip to Greece and are more than highly please and satisfied with our experience. They planned an amazing itinerary, booked amazing hotels, hired knowledgeable tour guides and arranged high quality transportation services. Everyone went above and beyond to please us. We are already planning a trip for next year (2024) and will definitely use Indus to do so.

07-Mar-2024

My wife and I along with three friends signed up the tour to Mexico from Indus Travel. The total 12-day Maya Culture trip really gave us opportunities to learn Mexico indigenous cultures thoroughly. We have seen a lot of ruins and pyramids, each of them has different representations and can tell the history of what was happening atthat time. We also had chances to visit the indigenous families toexperence the real Mexican people's life inthe rural area. The views of volcanoes, villages and canyons are also unforgettable. This is a small group with total 7 tourists, our driver/tour guide is a very experienced guide, he explained the history in sequence of events in and out. Most of all with 2500km driving he made us fell safe with his skills. All in all, this trip worths a 5+ star. I was so surprised that Indus Travel assigned a tour coordinator dedicated to our group, Kathlene helped a lot to make the arrangement for the whole trip and made us worry free.

13-Nov-2023

I booked a trip with Indus to South Africa and had a fabulous time! It was easy to book the trip online and any questions I had were answered very quickly by Sabine. The hotels we stayed at were very nice and in good locations. Our tours were well organized and our safari in Kruger National park was definitely a highlight. A few mornings had a bright and early start, but this allowed us to accomplish quite a lot in a day. The hotel restaurants had decent food, which was convenient if we had a longer day and didn't want to go out to eat. Overall, I was very happy with the trip and I felt the price for my tour was excellent value. I would definitely use Indus again!

04-Jan-2024

Exploring Bogota was fantastic - a lively city with so much to see. The Gold Museum was a highlight, taking us on a journey through centuries of history. We spent hours there, fascinated by the detailed exhibits showcasing the rich culture. After Bogota, we flew to St. Andres, a Caribbean paradise. Despite some rain during the 'rainy season,' the island's charm and our packed sightseeing schedule made every moment unforgettable. Activities like mangrove kayaking, snorkeling, and island hopping showcased St. Andres' natural beauty. WE even rescued a sick blue heron during our tour and transferred it to rescue services. The food was another standout. Local cuisine was not only delicious but also budget-friendly, offering a unique blend of flavors. I love seafood especially seviche, and I was trully impress by quality and diversity. But what really made our trip special was the people. Friendliness was everywhere, whether chatting with locals or getting tips on hidden gems. The genuine hospitality added an extra layer of joy to an already amazing journey. Bogota and St. Andres left a lasting impression, going beyond sightseeing to truly experience the heart and soul of these incredible destinations. Big thank you to Indus team, who put together this trip for me. I am looking forward to exploring other South American countries with Indus.

11-Jul-2023

Glimpse of Egypt Quick paced tour taken after Egypt opened back up to tourists, particularly Americans. Went in November and weather was beautiful. Decent hotels and overnight Nile cruise. You will see a lot on this tour and be aware there are some early wake ups. Lots of walking but doable if you're in decent shape. Overall a fun tour with all the sites you have only seen in books!
