Tour Overview

We start with private transportation to Volcanoes National Park, arriving at the park headquarters early in the morning. At 08:00, embark on a hike through the forest to spend an hour with a lively troop of 40-100 golden monkeys. Watch these playful creatures leap from tree to tree, providing an entertaining glimpse into their daily activities. In the afternoon, enjoy lunch before visiting the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Here, you'll observe gorilla conservation efforts firsthand. Afterward, head to Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge for dinner and an overnight stay. The following morning, set out for gorilla trekking. Split into small groups and guided by a ranger, trek through the forest for 1-3 hours to encounter a family of mountain gorillas. This hour-long experience offers a rare opportunity to observe these magnificent primates up close. After the trek, enjoy a private transfer to Gisenyi on Lake Kivu, a journey of approximately 2 hours. In the late afternoon, join a sunset kayaking excursion along the coast of Lake Kivu. Explore the shoreline and witness the traditional fishing boats setting out for the night, their crews singing as they depart. Return to Lake Kivu Serena Hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. The final day features a mountain biking adventure through the Rwandan countryside. Equipped with a quality bike, helmet, and gloves, you’ll ride along various trails, passing through small villages and interacting with local people. Choose from easy, moderate, or challenging routes based on your preference and experience a vibrant glimpse of rural life. After the ride, you'll be transferred back to Kigali for drop-off.

Early 04.30am transfer to Volcanoes National Park and arrive at park headquarters at 07:00 and at 08:00 you will begin hiking through the forests to spend an hour with a troop of 40-100 playful golden monkeys who are jumping and running all around. They are very sprightly creatures, leaping from tree to tree which is really entertaining to watch as they get on with their daily activities.

Afternoon after lunch you will visit To visit Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is to see gorilla conservation in action. Dinner and Overnight at Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge.

Day 2 : Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Lake Kivu - Sunset Kayaking

On arrival, everyone will be split into groups of up to 8 people – and maybe joined with other tourists – before being allocated a ranger. You will then drive a short distance to the start of the trail, from where you will trek in the forest for around 1-3 hours or so to meet the gorillas. When you find them, the hour you spend with these incredible primates is a true lifetime experience that you will never forget. To see – and walk amongst – a family of mountain gorillas is a wildlife encounter unlike any other on Earth. You’ll be so close to the individual gorillas. Boisterous adolescents will be misbehaving whilst playful children are constantly demanding the attention of their parents as aunts and uncles wander together in an extended family group under the watchful eye of the silverback. You may only be a visitor, but you will briefly be part of their family in a really remarkable way.

Private transportation to Gisenyi Lake Kivu. The journey is approximately 74 km and will take around 2 hours.

Meeting at 16:30 we spend about two hours exploring the coast near to the hotels, before heading back as dusk falls. We time our return so that - on the days that they are departing - we can witness the traditional fishing boats as they head off into the night, their crews singing rhythmically. One of the most spectacular events in Rwanda. Dinner and Overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

Day 3 : Mt Biking & Return to Kigali - Drop off

Location: Kigali, Lake Kivu

With a quality hard-tail mountain bike or e-bike, helmet and cycling gloves provided, you'll explore the Rwandan countryside on the many small tracks and trails that criss-cross the landscape.

You’ll pass through many small villages, where a traditional way of life flourishes. Friendly people will greet you at every turn, women will be selling their crops in small markets, sifting beans or grinding corn whilst both men and women will be working the fields. And with help from your experienced guide, as you meet with the local people, you’ll discover their great humour and local knowledge.

We found ourselves with a spare day in Musanze and found Kingfisher. They quickly sorted a trip on the Mukungwa river. Our guide Walter was fantastic and we had a great time paddling and spotting birds. Don’t worry about the rapids …. They are gentle. Would highly recommend but do make sure you have a hat and sunscreen.

People, go kayaking on Lake Kivu, you won't regret a single minute!! I did a 2-day kayaking trip from Karongi with camping on an island. It was just me and Emmanuel, my guide, felt like a weekend out with a friend. We both had a great time enjoying the beatiful nature, exchanging kayaking stories and talking about anything and everything. The camping spot was perfect, just the two of us and the friendly guardian of the island. It was all very well organized, professional and friendly with good equipment all the way. For female single travellers: no problem at all to do this by yourself, these guys will keep you safe!

I had a great time today in Musanze with our guide Pacifique. The canoe ride is an hour and a half to 3 hours depending on your fitness and that day’s current. This is my second time to go down the river and I always love it. Lots of birds and nature to take in. Definitely pay for the drop off and pick up service. Perfect for anyone between the ages of 5 and 70.
