We begin our tour at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at the Arc de Triomphe to discuss the whole process of unknown soldiers in the Great War.

We visit the WW1 Galleries in the Paris War Museum and in the afternoon travel to Versailles Palace.

Here we look at the history of the Versailles Peace Treaty which was signed here on 28th June 1919, bringing the formal end to the war.

We see the Hall of Mirrors where it was signed and examine the implications for Europe and the World, and discuss whether it laid the path to another war or not.

Today we start at Compiegne, where the Armistice was signed on 11th November 1918 leading to the Versailles Treaty the following year. We see the Armistice Carriage Museum, which has displays relating to the aftermath.

After lunch we travel to Arras in northern France where we visit the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Headquarters and discuss the creation of cemeteries after WW1.

We also visit the unique memorial at La Targette to the reconstruction of northern France after the war, when most of it lay in ruins. We continue to our hotel in St. Quentin or Douai for two nights.

Our focus today is on the original cemeteries built by the then Imperial War Graves Commission after the war.

On the Somme we visit Louvencourt and Forceville Cemeteries which were two of the three originally constructed as ‘experimental cemeteries’. We see the Thiepval Memorial and Thiepval Somme Museum to discuss the missing of the First World War.

In the afternoon we travel to Le Treport to visit the military cemetery, which was also one of the three original cemeteries, and also see Mont Huon Military Cemetery close by.
