Day 2 Stuttgart
Location: Stuttgart
Today we head across Germany to Stuttgart, where we have a late afternoon visit to the beautiful Christmas market, one of the oldest and indeed largest in Europe.
There's no shortage of culinary delights, as you explore the market stalls with roasted chestnuts, gingerbread, candied almonds, Swabian specialities, fried sausages and mulled wine.
After time in Stuttgart, we continue to Gunzburg and to our hotel for a three-night stay.
Day 3 Munich
Location: Munich
Optional excursion to Munich and its traditional Christmas market.
Dating back to the 14th century, the markets take place on Marienplatz. Traditional Bavarian Christmas gifts, including wood carvings from Oberammergau, Lebkuchen, crib figurines, bee-wax candles, chimney sweeps made of plums and almonds are just some of the many traditional items on display.
Visit the Kripperlmarkt, which specialises in cribs and nativity scenes, it is only a short walk away. There are many festive stalls scattered around the city.
Day 4 Ulm & Augsburg
Location: Ulm & Augsburg
Today, we visit two of the regions Christmas Markets. Starting in Ulm, we see the Munsterplatz, with its stunning backdrop of Ulm Minster, which boast the tallest church tower in the world.
At this time of year, the town is swathed in festive colour and the aroma of roasted almonds, the lovingly decorated stalls creating a charming atmosphere.
We later continue to Augsburg, whose Christkindlesmarkt boasts a history of more than 500 years. The Renaissance City Hall becomes a huge advent calendar-like scene.
Day 5 Rothenburg
Location: Rothenburg
We leave our hotel and head to Rothenburg ob der Tauber on the Romantic Road.
Known for its medieval setting, Rothenburg is a walled city that has been left largely untouched for hundreds of years. It is also home to one of Germany’s romantic Christmas Markets.
Try the local specialty "Schneeball" or snow ball, made from strips of sweet dough fried and covered with powdered sugar or chocolate.
