Day 2 : Days 2 & 3 Brussels
Location: Brussels
You have two full days in the charming city of Brussels where you can relax and savour the festive atmosphere. The City of Brussels is the capital of Belgium and has grown from a small rural settlement on the river Senne to become one of the most important cities in Europe. Brussels has so much to offer as a city in its own right including beautiful buildings, museums and art just to name a few. You can see both classical and modern attractions in the city so there is always something news to discover. In 1998 UNESCO World Heritage status was given to the Grand Place which is one of the main landmarks of the city, and of course you must visit the Manneken Pis the famous peeing boy statue, designed by Hieronymus Duquesnoy the Elder in the 1618-1619. If you want to see something a bit more modern, then why not look out for the various comic strip walls around the city. –You can see characters such as Tintin and Asterix and other local comic book and comic strip scenes and characters.
Of course the main reason for your visit is to enjoy the Christmas Markets. The Christmas Market has cheerful lights, delicious aromas and a vast number of stalls which promises a true holiday atmosphere. With exhibitors from all over Europe setting up wooden chalets around the Bourse (Stock Exchange), Place Sainte Catherine and the Marché aux Poissons (Fishmarket) you are sure to find plenty of stocking fillers. Whichever chalets you visit you will find plenty of Christmas goodies, handicrafts and various seasonal gastronomic delights. In addition to the Christmas Market the ever-popular outdoor ice-skating rink at the Marché aux Poissons offers fun for all. In the Grand Place itself, one of the world’s most beautiful squares, admire the stunning baroque facades of the guild houses and Town Hall, which will be beautifully illuminated. This vibrant city comes to life at night – treat yourself to a meal in one of the many splendid restaurants.
Day 4
Check out of your hotel this morning. Be sure to leave plenty of time for the journey back to the station. We recommend you arrive at the station at least one hour and thirty minutes before departure to check in. Travel by Eurostar direct to the UK.
