Tour Overview
This grand scenic tour through the picturesque Scottish Islands includes the wonderful Isle of Skye and impressive ancient scenery of Lewis.
Itinerary
Day 1
Make your own way to our overnight hotel in the Glasgow area, where you will join the tour.
Day 2 Isle Of Skye
Location: Isle of Skye
Wonderful scenery unfolds today, with high mountain tops and sweeping terrain as far as the eye can see. We make a stop in Fort William, one of the major resorts of the Highlands, set on the shore of Loch Linnhe and in the shadow of the mighty Ben Nevis. We then head north, passing the impressive 13th-century Eilean Donan Castle, the second most photographed castle in Scotland. The iconic castle is situated on its own little island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, overlooking the Isle of Skye.
We continue to our overnight hotel on or near the Isle of Skye.
Day 3 The Uists
Location: The Uists
Enjoy a magnificent drive across Skye to catch the sailing to North Uist, located in the centre of a group of islands known as the Outer Hebrides. In the afternoon, we enjoy a scenic coastal tour of the Uists, passing numerous tiny lochs and sandy beaches, before checking into the Dark Island Hotel for an overnight stay. Located in the heart of the Hebrides on Benbecula Island, the hotel is ideally placed for our visit to the Isle of Harris.
Day 4 Isle Of Harris
Location: Isle of Harris
We head north for the sailing to the largest of the Hebridean Islands, Harris, a rugged landscape of moorland, deep-sea lochs and mountains. On the west coast are some of the most spectacular beaches in Britain, whilst the east of the island has a more rugged terrain. We travel to the north end of Lewis and to the capital Stornoway, where we stay for two nights.
Day 5 Lewis
Location: Lewis
Enjoy a full-day tour of Lewis with an experienced island guide. We see the impressive 5,000 year-old standing stones of Callanish (Scotland’s Stonehenge); ancient thatched 'black houses', typical of crofting settlements, with entrance included; and the imposing Carloway Broch, a fortified tower dating back over 2,000 years.
Day 6 Inverness & Spey Valley
Location: Inverness & Spey Valley
Depart on the morning sailing to Ullapool and head to Inverness, the 'Capital of the Highlands'. Spend free time exploring the city with its historic buildings, Victorian market and imposing castle, which enjoys a beautiful cliff-top setting above the banks of the River Ness. We then continue our journey south, through picturesque Spey Valley and into Perthshire for our overnight stay.
Day 7 Edinburgh
Location: Edinburgh
We head to Edinburgh, where you can enjoy time at leisure. Take a stroll around this bustling, historic city, with its winding alleyways, stylish boutiques, colourful Grassmarket area and ancient Royal Mile. We then continue to our overnight hotel near Glasgow airport.
Day 8
After breakfast, make your own way home.
