Tiring but nice day - but be careful of camel riders

3/24/2019

It was a long day but I think it's a tour worth joining. Our tour guide mohamd (if I remember his name correctly) was very knowledgable and helpful with the tourists. The trip was perfect except for an incident occurred during the camel riding near the pyramids - the camel guide asked for more and more tips when we were alone during the riding, and I feared that if I didn't pay enough he would leave me with the camel there. Thankfully our tour guide asked the guy to pay me back the extra amount when we were back. It was a bit scary.

The trip was amazing! Very well organized program with its nice and friendly crew!!! We couldn't expect to see so many attractions in one day, especialy not for that price. We also took a boat trip by river Nile and it was fun. Thanks to Mohamed & Co we really enjoyed this unforgetable day a lot! Highly recomendable!

Disappointed

11/3/2019

This trip was excellent for anyone who hadnt been to Cairo before, however treasures had been moved from the old museum to the new one which hasnt yet been opened so we were unable to see many items at the old museum. The Pyramids and Sphinx were still a sight to see but now there is a visitor entrance which I thought tarnished my memories. Also disappointing was the City of the Dead has been filled in and a new road built over the top. 15 years is a long time ago and Cairo has certainly moved on just not always in a good way but thats progress.

Meh.

7/1/2019

Our trip was on 3rd March. Picked up from our hotel at 1am in the morning. Little tip, dont go to bed, so you can sleep on the coach! Passes the time! It took us roughly 8 hour to get to Cairo. We had to pass through several checkpoints( for our safety) which took its time. First stop was the Egyptian museum. I did notice that the group were all given student tickets(cheaper).Luckily, we didnt have a problem entering. Our tour guide Mohammed showed us round some really interesting pieces. He did give us about 30 minutes to find our own way around the museum. He was however promoting some sort of dvd. Not quite sure what he was talking about. We had a quick boat tour down the Nile.( optional at 10) we felt it was necessary. Was okay, nothing special. Stopped off at some dingy looking restaurant. Yes admittedly it did have a view of one of the pyramids. Quality of food wasnt the greatest, and it was located in a horrible part of town. We were then taken to a Papyrus shop. Blatantly friends of the tour guide. ? Commission. Admittedly some of the papyrus looked beautiful, but I wasnt prepared to spend 850 on a piece! The guy demonstrated how papyrus was made, but even then it seemed scripted. They took us into a little room to show us the glow in the dark work. Admittedly looking back on it, it seemed a bit weird. However, I did leave with all my belongings! We did visit the pyramids next, exciting! Our tour guide asked if we wanted to ride camels or a horse and cart. Making us believe that 200EGP for 30 minutes was a good deal. We literally walked past the sign that read 350 EGP for 1 hour. He even covered the sign up with his hands! To be honest, 30 minutes was long enough on a camel! BE WARNED; do not give any of the people working here any of your time. Especially this one guy on the camel, I will post in the photos. No reflection on the tour, but I was hassled massively. He asked if I want to take a picture of the camel which I innocently did. He then jumped off the camel and placed a stick in my hand to which I constantly said no. He proceeded to take the scarf from around his neck and place it on my head. Again I kept saying no. He then bombarded me for money. I told him I only had 1EGP as I just spent my last 200 on the ticket. He then proceeded to FOLLOW me. I felt my time at the pyramids were quite traumatic. Ruined the whole reason we were there. Constantly hassled by different people. Rode a camel from the pyramids out a little distance and stopped for photos. I refused to ride the camel back (didnt like it as I felt I was falling off, my own fault for being so short) I decided to walk back to the pyramids which was quite a distance. My two friends were already in the horse and Cart, and seeing me starting to walk back, decided they would join me. The guy who was driving their horse and cart said I could join them. I obviously jumped at the chance, and as we started our way back, he demanded my friends paid DOUBLE to accommodate me. We then had a quick drive to the Sphinx. This was very rushed as it was closing time, and the police we escorting us off the premises. We lastly stopped to have drinks for our journey back. Again this was friends of the tour guide and a blatant commission job. Tour was okay. Please do your research before booking. I dont regret this tour, but it could have been better.

Very long day,24hr trip but worth to see the pyramids

3/12/2019

A very long trip, was picked up at 1 in the morning and didn't return til 1 in the morning the next day. we were one of the last hotels in Hurghada, Long Beach so was the first pick up, this was in a small bus holding 15 which then drove for half an hour until we got onto a big coach. Then spent 2 hours picking up others until we started making our way to Cairo, so actually took 8 hours until the first tour stop; not the most comfortable for a long journey but they did do a service station break. We had a security guard on the bus which was equipped with a gun (government regulation for any trip over 400km) so felt really safe. There were lots of check points on the way into Cairo so felt really safe, along with a police escort for first journey through Cairo to the museum. Tour guide was good, coach was split into German and english, then polish in another group. would have been better if it was a smaller group, as didn't feel like as much detailed information was given. after Museum, we were encouraged to take a trip along the Nile which was an extr 200 Egyptian pound, tour guides did try to pressure you in, saying why come here and not see the Nile. The boat was a quick 20 mins up and down with some photo opportunities. we stopped off for lunch in. restaurant near the pyramids, so a great view. in a run down/poor area so there are loads of kids that beg or try to get you to buy souvenirs off of them. Be careful from the food in the restaurant as it gave me a dodgy stomach. Restaurant is geared only for tour groups to attend, and charge extra for a drink. after lunch we were taken to a papyrus shop (run by a friend), felt like the man was reading from a script when explaining how it was made. They take you into a small curtained corner of the room and turn off the lights to show you ones that glow in the dark (was a bit wary that it was a pit-pocketing scam at the time) At the pyramids the tour guide encourages you to buy the horse cart or camel ride from him as it is cheaper at 200 Egyptian Pound for half an hour; however it is only 350 Egyptian pound for 1 whole hour. we were hassled by the man doing the horse cart ride to pay him a bit extra as he had taken good photos for us. Be wary if any of them ask if you want them to take a pic of you with their camel(no ride) as they will expect money. did have enough time to explore the pyramids by yourself until you had to meet back as a group. they then take you to a perfume shop, but claim it was a stop before the journey home to have a rest and get a drink. They encourage you to buy from them, with the false pretence of having a 'free drink' (tea or coffee). I left and waited on the coach as i knew what they were trying to sell. The journey back was okay, again long but we stopped off at a service station which had restaurants inside to buy some dinner
