Kanchenjunga south& north base camp trek will lead you into the pristine Kanchenjunga Conservation Area of Nepal. This park is named after its massive snow treasure Mount Kanchenjunga with an elevation of 8,586m. Mount Kanchenjunga is 3rd highest mountain in the world after Mount Everest and Mount K2. Kanchenjunga trek gives you a very rare taste of an unexploited wilderness, experienced by very few tourists. Mount Kanchenjunga is considered to be one of the most beautiful snow massif in the world. Kanchenjunga Circuit trek is an ideal trekking trail for the trekkers who enjoy solitude. This is an 18 days trek starting from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. We can do this trek by camping throughout the trail or by staying in a tea house. We will fly to Suketar airport located in the far north-east part of Nepal from where our trek starts. We will trek through the beautiful villages, forests, and landscapes observing different ethnic groups far from the modern world still practicing their traditional culture.

Day 1 : Flight From Kathmandu To Bhadrapur (93 M) 45 Minutes Flight Then Drive To Taplejung (1820 M) Approx 8 Hours

Location: Kathmandu

Early in the morning, we take our flight to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu with the scenic view of the Eastern region. After 45 minutes of flight, we reach the Bhardrapur airport then we will take a car/jeep from Bhadrapur for Illam/Taplejunga which will take Approx 8 hours of drive. We will stop in the beautiful tea garden of Illam also known as the garden of Nepal for our lunch. After our Lunch, we will decent upward from Illam for our overnight stay in Taplejung.

Day 2 : Taplejung To Hellok (1740 M) Drive By Private Jeep 5 Hrs

Today we will head towards the Mitlung/Sinuwa by crossing the small river over the suspension bridge. Then our trail descends down to Tamor Riverwalk through villages and terraced fields. Some irregular villages give us an opportunity to meet local people. Upon arriving at Tamor River, we follow some narrow trails close to the river. Then a gradual uphill trail through the terraced fields and few houses take to the village of Hellok.

Day 3 : Hellok To Yasang(2800 M) 6 Hours Walk

Location: Hellok

Today we will trek to Mamasik from Hellok our third day and we will decent upward slope with beautiful and friendly local people. Small tea breaks give us plenty of opportunities to encounter with local people and have a look over beautiful houses and local domestic animals. We will walk along the Simbuwa Khola in our way to Mamasik and we spend our overnight in Mamasik.

Day 4 : Yasang To Tortong (2995 M) 6 Hours Walk

Location: Ramche

Today we march gradually ascending and following the Sibuwa river and cross the river again to our left side. A short steep uphill walk takes us to a bit high and keeps the distance with Sibuwa River. We walk through the rhododendron and bamboo bushes and thick forest to reach Tortong and we can enjoy with the wild animals like Red Panda, Wild Boar, Bear, Musk Deer, wild birds, and other different wild animals in our way and we will stay in Tortong for the overnight.

Day 5 : Tortong To Cheram (3870 M) 5 Hours Walk

Location: Ramche

Today we will trek through the trail of the dense forest of beautiful bamboo and rhododendron which is accompanied by the river. After that we will walk along the Simbuwa Khola gradually uphill then after some time we will reach Cheram for the overnight stay.

Day 6 : Cheram To Ramche (3870 M) 4Hours Walk

Location: Ramche

Accommodation: Tea House/Lodge

We begin our short trek after breakfast. From Cheram, we ascend for sometime before reaching the snout of the Yalung Glacier. It is a beautiful walk on a valley trail. We also cherish the views of several Himalayan peaks. We pass through a small settlement of Lapsang before reaching Ramche. Overnight in Ramche.

Day 7 : Ramche To Yalung Base Camp (4500M) To Cheram 4 Hours Walk

Location: Ramche

Accommodation: Tea House/Lodge

From Ramche, we walk further up the valley. We then follow a stream before climbing on the moraine top until confronted by Kanchenjunga’s southern face. We walk further ahead for a glimpse of the Jannu Himal. We continue our trek further towards the Oktang Monastery. From here, we climb further up and reach the Yalung Base Camp. The views from the base camp are extraordinary. Kumbakarna (Jannu), Nyukla Lachung, and other Himalayan peaks are close by. We descend and spend the night at Cheram.

Day 8 : Cheram To Sele La (4290M/ 14,074Ft) 6 Hours Walk

Location: Ghunsa

Accommodation: Hotel, Tea House/Lodge

We begin our trek after breakfast. We cross four passes today beginning with Sinelapche Bhanjyang. After crossing the pass we continue to Mirgin La pass. We continue trekking and reach the Sinon La pass which is not very far. From here, we ascend to Sele La pass. There are prayer flags strung across one of the steeper sections of the trail which is very near to the Sele La pass. We cross the pass. Overnight in Sele La.

Day 9 : Sele La To Ghunsa (3,595/11,794) 4 Hours Walk

Location: Ghunsa

We begin our trek after breakfast. We walk towards the north with Tangbgharma Danda nearby. We reach a chorten marked by prayer flags which marks the start of a steep trail. We descend through rhododendron, birch and pine forests before reaching Ghunsa. It is a beautiful village of houses with Day.

Day 10 : Rest And Exploration Day In Ghunsa

Location: Ghunsa

Ghunsa is a beautiful settlement of Sherpa people with their beautiful culture and lifestyle, so we will take a day off for the rest in Ghunsa and explore the beautiful Ghunsa. We will visit the Monastery, Juniper, and incense factory with antique shops of handmade carpets. Ghunsa is the gateway of North and the South Base camp of Kanchenjunga.

Day 11 : Ghunsa – Kambachen (4,050M) 6 Hours

Location: Ghunsa

From Ghunsa, we will trek further north along the river bank which presents us with magnificent mountain scenery. We will pass through meadows filled with beautiful wildflowers, then cross rhododendron and pine forests. Then we will cross a bridge at Rampuk Kharka and continue past a waterfall and cross the tricky section of a landslide. After crossing the landslide area we begin to see the spectacular view of Mt. Jannu. Further exploring and tackling the tricky mountain trail we finally arrive at Kambachen and spend the night.

Day 12 : Kambachen – Lhonak (4,780M) 6 Hours

Location: Lhonak

Accommodation: Home Stay/Tea House/Lodge

Today will be another challenging day and an early start is needed. We will trek through rocky fields and large boulders on the hillside along the riverbank and arrive at a waterfall. We will then cross a bridge to Ramtang monastery. After then we will cross a landslide section which we must pass through at a steady pace before descending to the river and finally arriving at Lhonak. We will stay overnight in Lhonak.

Day 13 : Kanchenjunga Base Camp(5,143M) 7 Hours

Location: Lhonak

Accommodation: Tea House /Lodge

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

From Lhonak, we trek towards the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. Our trail is alongside the gigantic Kanchenjunga Glacier. After passing Pangpema we will descend towards the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The view from the base camp is magnificent. Mount Kanchenjunga, Jannu Himal, and other Himalayan peaks are ours to admire. After then we will descend back to Pangpema and stay overnight.

Day 14 : Lhonak – Ghunsa (3475M) 7 Hours

Location: Pangpema

Accommodation: Hotel, Lodge

From Lhonak, we will descend all the way to Ghunsa via Kambachen. It is the same route we took when we were climbing up

Day 15 : Ghunsa – Amjilosa (2,308M) 6 Hours

Location: Amjilosha

Accommodation: Tea House/Lodge

From Ghunsa, we descend towards Phale. We will pass through several Mani’s and a monastery nearby. We will walk through Juniper forests and reach Phale. From there, it is a steady descent to Gyabla. We will cross a bridge over the river Chhundatangka and reach Gyabla. As we continue our trek, we see a waterfall nearby. We also cross a suspension bridge over the river Sumbung before reaching Amjilosa. Today we stay overnight in Amjilosa.

Day 16 : Amjilosa – Taphethok (1,270M) 5 Hours

Location: Tapethok

Accommodation: Tea House /Lodge

After walking for a while we will see a beautiful waterfall nearby. We will continue our trek and pass a small settlement of Solima before crossing a suspension bridge over river Ghunsa and reach Sukathum. Our trail passes through several villages beside river Thunsa followed by river Tamor before reaching Chirwa. We will stay overnight in Chirwa.

Day 17 : Tapethok To Illam Drive By Private Jeep 9 Hours Drive

Location: Ilam

Today we will drive through the Taplejung Bazaar with the private jeep/car then we will drive and see Nepali culture and lifestyle and beautiful cardamom garden with a beautiful rice paddy field. After approx 6 hours of drive we will reach Illam Bazaar and stay overnight in Illam. After reaching Illam we will do the sightseeing of Illam Bazaar and Illam Bazar is one of the most popular business hubs between India and Nepal. Illam is very famous for its local products like Tea, Cardamom, Ginger, Ghee, chilly, and many other household products.

Day 18 : Illam To Bhadrapur By Privat Jeep 4Hours Drive And Flight Back To Kathmand

Location: Kathmandu

We will drive from Illam to Bhadrapur by private jeep through the tea garden with small towns Kanyam, we can see many scenes of tea garden, Nepali lifestyle and we can buy varieties of tea and local products from Fickal Bazzar/ Kanyam. Then we will drive to Bhadrapur airport for our flights and we will fly back to Kathmandu on the same day.

"We did about close to 2 weeks trek in Nepal. It was me, my boyfriend, and my friend, so it was only 3 of us. Pasang, our guide was amazing, friendly, and well-spoken. He welcomed us by picking us up from the airport and take us to the hotel. He explained to us what our trip would be like after we were well-rested. We spent a day in KTM sightseeing after that we flew from KTM to BHR, first of all, the process of getting in and out of domestic airports in Nepal is insane and Pasang was there to take care of everything. He organized everything from the tea houses, foods, jeep rides, our trek, our porters(they were amazing!), etc. The Kanchenjunga trek itself was amazing. It was more remote and we all enjoyed that very much. It was stress-free, there was no worries. I would do it all over again. I’ve never been in a higher attitude climate before, so I would trek slower than everyone else when we got to a higher altitude, but Pasang always makes sure to stay with me or have his assistance hike with me. It was my first time in Nepal and I truly enjoyed this moment in Nepal from their multi-culture diversity and Kanchenjunga trek. It is definitely nice going to Nepal for a hike and have met so many amazing people including Pasang. He treated everyone around him like a family and that’s what I appreciate about our wonderful guide."

together my wife and me had this wonderful trekking Experience here in the Kanchenjunga region, we are so glad that we choose to do this trek as we had our own time with each other in such a beautiful nature of wilderness and mountains. We explore the diverse local culture and people on our ways to this trek along with the stunning views of mountains, Himalayas, flora fauna, and nature. This trail is such a unique way of exploring nature as we found peace places where we didn't found crowded visitors and trekkers which made our trekking peace and private. The 21 day Kanchenjunga Circuit is an amazing trek to see a remote region and experience the traditional culture of Nepal. Nima Sherpa was my guide, a local from that area, and so knowledgeable about everything. I had an unexpected change in travel plans and Pasang was wonderful in helping and taking care of all the details. I hope to go back one day and look forward to connecting with Pasang again!

Kanchenjunga Circuit 2019 – Unforgettable trek with Mount Adventures Holidays

At the end of 2018, I started to plan the Kanchenjunga Circuit North to South (22 days) as my next trek in Nepal – the 6th one after doing before, the Langtang, the Lower Mustang, the Annapurna Circuit, and twice the Everest Base Camp 3 passes. I did all those treks with my good friend Nachman – always without a guide, and only the last one with a porter. I scheduled the Kanchenjunga circuit for OCT 1, 2019, so I have plenty of time to study and plan the trek to the very details. Kanchenjunga Trek is defined by the Nepali authorities as a Restricted Area which can be done with a Licensed Guide! My first step in the plan was, to find a reliable Local operator to work with. I prepared a standard RFQ (Request for Proposal) that I sent to 20 selected companies. In the RFQ I asked for 3 services: A Guide, Porters, and ground transportation (Jeep) - From Bhadarpur to Taplejung and back. I have stated clearly that the prerequisite is a previous proved experience with the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. After about two months of email back and forth and with 8 companies that were left as appropriate candidates I have decided to work with Pasang Sherpa the owner of Mount Adventures Holidays, who managed to provide the most “balanced” offer, and happen to be the most responsive via emails….usually, Pasang responds to Email, in details, within few hours or less – I liked it!!! Pasang choose Nima Sherpa to be our guide. Nima is from the Kanchenjunga Region well familiar with this trek, as he did it several times before. The same applies to one of the Porters who is also from the Kanchenjunga region. The combination of Pasang Sherpa, Nima Sherpa and the two Porters was a “Winning” combination!!! The professional organization, services, attitude, and concerns were far above any expectations I have. Thank you, Nima for leading us safely along the trek, for taking care of us and for being so considerate. Special thanks to Pasang Sherpa who managed the whole operation remotely. Thank you, Pasang for the wonderful team Guide and Porters. Please give my sincere appreciation and thanks to the porters who did a great job with a smile! It was my honor to work with both of you – Pasang and Nima! Such an amazing experience!

I went in a 14-day trek with our guide Pasang and my two friends. It was a wonderful experience and I can’t wait for another trip in with Mount Adventure Holidays. I am vegan and I had absolutely no problems eating while in the trek at all. The team quickly learned how to accommodate my diet and made sure I was never given anything not vegan. Our group walked faster than the planned itinerary so we ended up ending a day or two earlier. Pasang talked about our pace and the distance we would do each day so everyone was happy and comfortable. Pasang took care of everything from the time we got to KTM from the time we left and was very helpful suggesting things to do when we had some free time. This was an unforgettable trip and I will be recommending Mount Adventure Holidays to anyone who wants to go to Nepal. Thank you for the great experience!
