Former stomping ground of the Brontë sisters and easily one of the quaintest villages in West Yorkshire, it’s not hard to see how Haworth’s meandering cobbled lanes gazing out towards the mysterious moors provided inspiration for the likes of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre.
The Brontë Parsonage Museum is well worth a visit before you explore the lovely range of art, vintage and crafts shops – all crammed with curios and gifts made by local Yorkshire residents.
The charming village of Esholt is located on the outskirts of Shipley and was chosen as the backdrop for the multi award-winning Emmerdale in 1977. Filming took place here for 20 years, but it became so popular with visitors that filming scenes became impossible. As a result, the Emmerdale village as it is today was purpose built in the grounds of Harewood House. Marvel at the picturesque village, nestled amongst the rolling hills, as you meander down the quaint main lane and past the familiar haunt of the original Woolpack pub. Today it is the only ‘soap’ pub where you can get a drink!
The market town of Otley is better known as the fictional village of Hotten, a regular filming location for Emmerdale and the local town of the residents of Emmerdale village. The town also features in other programmes such as Heartbeat and DCI Banks. Soak up the atmosphere as you stroll along the cobbled streets, dotted with historic pubs and independent shops, and enjoy an award-winning pork pie.
