Day One – Fly To San Francisco

Start your American adventure with a flight to San Francisco. Upon arrival at the airport, meet your friendly local tour manager and check into your hotel for your first evening at leisure.  You’ll also be free to explore the city and find dinner in one of the nearby local restaurants.

Day Two – Included Sightseeing Tour Of San Francisco

This morning, join a captivating sightseeing tour of San Francisco’s most famous landmarks.Start the day in Union Square, the city’s bustling commercial hub, where you’ll find a charming collection of high-end boutiques, cafés, and restaurants set against the imposing backdrop of Macy’s flagship California store. This historic department store, which was rebuilt after a major earthquake in 1906, has been a staple of San Francisco’s retail industry for over a century and is perfect for a spot of retail therapy if you get the chance. Continue to Nob Hill, the trendy former home of the ‘Big Four’ railway barons, where you’ll stop briefly to admire the neighbourhood’s ornate Grace Cathedral.Your next stop will be the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, one of the world’s most recognisable sights, which spans the mile-long strait of the same name. Cross the state borders this morning as you visit idyllic Zion, the first of five extraordinary national parks you’ll explore across Utah over the coming week. Arriving in the neighbouring town of Springdale, you’ll swap your coach for the park’s smaller shuttles which are better suited to the reserve’s winding roads and rugged terrain. The shuttles also run the entire length of the valley, allowing you the freedom to travel as much or as little as you’d like through the scenery. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to make the most of some of Zion’s winding mountain trails and striking red rock landscapes with stops at the park’s panoramic lookout spots.However you choose to spend your day in Zion’s glorious canyon landscapes, reconvene in Springdale for the drive to Bryce Canyon City. Your final stop today will be the historic Ruby’s Inn where you’ll stay for the next two nights. A staple of Bryce’s hospitality industry, the hotel houses a general store, perfect for restocking your essentials or finding the perfect souvenir to commemorate your trip, with a handful of western-style stores across the street.

Day Nine – Included Bryce Canyon National Park Excursion

Showcasing colourful red rock valleys, unique ‘horseshoe amphitheatres’ carved out of the canyon’s plateaus, and the world’s highest concentration of hoodoos, Bryce promises an abundance of memorable sights.After arriving in the park this morning, start at Sunrise Point, an idyllic lookout where you’ll have ample time to take in the canyon’s scenic beauty under the morning light and perhaps capture a photo or two of the jagged sandstone hoodoos. The lookout is also home to the park’s visitor centre, and you’ll have the option to stop here to make the most of its café and shop.You’ll be able to take an easy walk along the rim of the canyon to Sunset Point, so named for its extraordinarily clear skies and its popularity amongst stargazers. Upon arrival, you’ll have the chance to witness the red-rusted landscape, with its magnificent stone arches, colossal pinnacles and impressive stone stacks, from a handful of truly spectacular viewpoints.The highlight of the day will be the renowned Delicate Arch, the most famous of the park’s 2,000 rock loops, which stands at 52 feet tall and was used as a waypoint by cowboys and prospectors to help navigate the region’s rugged landscapes. Next, you’ll visit the aptly named ‘Windows’ section of the reserve, home to a large concentration of natural stone arches that perfectly frame the surrounding mountain vistas. Enter the park from the south, briefly pausing at the Needles Visitor Centre, before continuing to the Big Spring Canyon Overlook, often described as the start of the Grand Canyon. After some time to admire the colourful exposed rock faces, you’ll move into the canyons themselves.This evening, continue to Monument Valley, where you’ll be free to unwind with an overnight at your next hotel. Day 13 – Included Scenic Drive Around Monument Valley And Navajo National Park

You’ll be able to see the East and West Mittens, two free-standing rock buttes which resemble hands, before driving on to Flagstaff. Upon arrival in Flagstaff, check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening on your own time.

Day 14 – Included Grand Canyon Tour With Optional Scenic Helicopter Ride

Your destination today will be the laid-back desert resort of Palm Springs, once a favourite retreat of Hollywood’s rich and famous, where you’ll spend the next two days relaxing in the acclaimed Margaritaville Resort. With palm-studded streets, spectacular mountain landscapes and North America’s largest collection of mid-century architecture, there will be plenty of fascinating sights to see.Arriving in the afternoon, you’ll be free to explore the boutiques and bars that once hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe and find dinner at one of the lively local eateries.

Day 16 – Day At Leisure With Optional Palm Springs Aerial Cableway Visit

Location: Palm Springs

Venture out into Palm Springs’ quirky downtown area this morning and wander along Palm Canyon Drive, a boulevard fringed with art galleries, speciality shops, and vintage boutiques. Wander past the surrounding neighbourhoods with mid-century celebrity residences, including Elvis Presley’s honeymoon home.To explore further, an optional ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway takes you from the desert floor to the summit of Mt. San Jacinto Canyon. This tramway operates one of the world’s largest rotating tram cars, which slowly turns as you travel, ensuring views of the Chino Canyon and valley below. Reconvene with your fellow travellers at the hotel this evening for your final night.

Day 17 – Included Visit To Hollywood And Return Flight To The Uk

Leave Palm Springs this morning and make the drive to glamorous Hollywood. Watched over by the Hollywood sign on Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills, this neighbourhood is rife with some of the United States’ most recognisable landmarks.Chart the history of the city’s film industry along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, see the TCL Chinese Theatre, with its handprints and footprints of the big names, and visit the Hollywood & Highland shopping and entertainment complex. Lastly, pass along the Sunset Strip on Sunset Boulevard with its legendary rock clubs and celebrity haunts.  Later, you’ll be transferred to Los Angeles Airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.

Visas are not normally required for entry, but visitors must apply for an ESTA online with US Immigration at least 72 hours before departure at www.cbp.gov/esta. The current charge is $21 for British Citizens. British subjects and anyone who has a criminal record or has ever been arrested should consult the US Embassy as a visa may be required. Note too that if you have visited North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia or Yemen since March 2011, or Cuba since 12 January 2021, or have dual nationality with any of these countries, you do require a US visa and cannot travel on the Visa Waiver Program.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted on any coach forming part of your holiday; regular stops will be made though for your comfort en route. The majority of hotels in North America are non-smoking throughout including in all bedrooms. In general smoking outside is acceptable, but do look out for signs prohibiting this close to public entrances or bus stops.

Tipping



Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. The customary gratuity for a coach driver is $5 per person per day for the driver and $7 per person per day for the tour manager. 


It is normal to tip 15-20 per cent of the bill for a taxi or in a restaurant, and to leave a dollar or so per drink in a bar.



On your flight

All outbound flights depart and arrive on the same day. All return flights leave in the evening and land in the UK the next day. On-board meals will usually include lunch and a snack on outward flights, and dinner and breakfast on flight home. Soft drinks are complimentary, but some airlines will charge for alcoholic drinks.

Luggage allowance

You are permitted to take one suitcase per person on the aircraft, which should not exceed 23kg.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Standard hotel rooms in North America will contain one or two double- or queen-sized beds, and it is not possible to add extra beds to the room. Parties consisting of more than two travellers, but who have only booked one room, will be expected to make use of the two beds provided. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.

I tried to book myself on line for an Andre Rieu concert in Vienna but I didn’t manage to complete the booking. I rang the next day & spoke to Sharon who was very helpful. I am a 76 year old pensioner & not totally au fa with the internet. However, Sharon went through it step by step & I felt more confident. She completed the booking for me & said she would also send a paper copy.

This is the third holiday I have taken with Newmarket Holidays. They made it easy to change from the Holiday I originally booked to one in the UK. The tour leader was excellent as was our driver, both of whom went the extra mile to ensure we had a lovely holiday. There were difficulties at the hotel due to COVID but we were made very welcome and the staff went out of their way to help us. So I have no complaint about Newmarket's choice of hotel. I am a single traveller and normally do not like to travel in groups but the laidback atmosphere of Newmarket Holidays is fine.

Hurrah for Eddie and Simon, Newmarket's highlands duo!

Very happy time on an action packed trip to the Scottish highlands. Eddie as tour manager and Simon as driver. Eddie shared his passion for Scottish history and between them they treated us to many unscheduled cultural stops that enhanced our holiday. They went above and beyond all the time. Train trips were amazing and views unforgettable. Hotel was welcoming and food was good. Hot water aplenty for bath. We wanted to escape to another world for a few days and we truly did. THANK YOU. We have returned from our long overdue trip to Canada Niagara Falls to the Rockies stating in Toronto and finishing in Vancouver. Well we happened to be the first trip back after the Coiid outbreak and it was so good to go. The company had made sure we were all safe and masks were worn where ever they had to be but this did not dampen the trip at all, the Tour directors ( guides ) were brilliant and we saw and did so much it was a fantastic trip which I would recommend to everyone, defiantly one for the bucket list.
