Tour Overview
This tour is perfect for people who want to explore the Arctic. Begin your journey from the southern part of Finland via Sweden and to the northern part of Norway. You will experience the Arctic in various ways. Most importantly, you will be hunting for the Northern Lights in the best locations!
Itinerary
Day 1 : Helsinki
Location: Helsinki
Accommodation: Night Train
Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner
In the Finnish capital, the snow will cover the entire city in a pure white atmosphere, and create a Christmas feeling through the Christmas decorations of Aleksanterinkatu. Our first stop will be Helsinki´s cathedral, the most famous white cathedral in Northern Europe. Shortly after we will visit Uspenski Cathedral, on our way to Tuomaan Markkinat (St. Thomas Christmas Market). Feel the true Scandinavian Christmas atmosphere in this lively street market. For lunch, we will enjoy the local seafood lunch, before we visit the Marimekko Factory - one of the most renowned Finnish designers. We will continue to the Sibelius Monument. The Sibelius Park is a park erected to honor Jean Sibelius, a remarkable Finnish composer.
For dinner, we will have something not so conventional but certainly tasty: Arctic Seafood Sushi. Once we are ready, we will begin our trip to Rovaniemi in Santa´s comfortable night train, equipped with double rooms.
Day 2 : Visit Santa Claus
Location: Rovaniemi
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner
Rovaniemi is the first stop in the Arctic Circle! The area is mysterious and beautiful. In addition to the world's only Santa Claus, there is a magical summer midnight sun and a stunning winter aurora borealis! Santa Claus Village is probably the most exciting place in the world. Santa Claus will listen carefully to your wishes. Are you ready to meet Santa? During your visit to Santa´s Post Office, you can purchase a variety of Christmas cards. Cross the Arctic Circle and get a Certificate.
After meeting Santa, we will visit a snow castle, experience the amazing architecture and ice sculptures and have fun with the high speed sledding in the snow toboggans. Afterwards, we will try a reindeer meat meal, before we go to a Sámi reindeer farm hidden in the forest. In the farm we will have the chance of joining the reindeers in an exciting sleigh ride! After all the adrenaline, we will relax while fishing quietly on a silent frozen lake. We will prepare a campfire and a barbecue where we will be able to grill what we fish and (for those without luck) a salmon dinner. Once we are full, we will release all the stress in a traditional Finnish sauna and our amazing Aurora Nest! A small mobile house pulled by snowmobiles, in which you will have a chance to see the Northern lights!
Day 3 : The Arctic
Location: Rovaniemi
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
On the third day of our memorable trip, we will start with a snowmobiling experience. We will spend the morning crossing wild forests at full speed. At lunchtime, we will go to a restaurant to enjoy a buffet that will provide us with the necessary energy that we'll need in order to enjoy some cross country Ski.
At dinner, we will surprise you with a private arctic dinner, before we give you a ride in our Aurora Nest to maximise the chances of seeing the Northern lights!
Day 4 : Icebreaker
Location: Kalix
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Join us on board the White Icebreaker! Enjoy the spectacular scenery, experience walking on the ice sea and learn how to wear the floating suits. Take a dip in the icy ocean, but stay dry and warm in your survival suit. You will have the chance to try the traditional Swedish lunch and the traditional arctic duck dinner, before we take you on a plane, and we set off in search of Northern lights!
For the night, we will take you to a double room in an extraordinary 4-star spa hotel.
Day 5 : Amethyst Mine
Location: Saariselkä
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today we will take you to a 2000 million years old amethyst mine on top of the Lampivaara Hill, where the owner will tell you the story of the mine and describe the process of mining. After the introduction, you will dig up amethysts for yourself and, if they fit in your enclosed fit, you will have the chance of keeping them as a memory. After a tasty lunch, we will take you to the town of Saariselkä, surrounded by nature. There you will go on an exciting 10 km husky adventure on a sleigh pulled by a team of friendly huskies.
For dinner, we will try the local reindeer meat pizza, and once we have recovered our energies, we will climb on top of Saariselkä's hill, so we have the best perspective of the Northern lights. After this fantastic show, we will rest in a nice 4-star spa hotel.
Day 6 : King Crab
Location: Kirkenes
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The Norwegian Arctic Circle is a perfect place for fishing king crabs all year round. Because of the extreme cold, the King Crab is particularly fertile. The fishermen along the shore will explain the history of the King Crab in the Norwegian Arctic Circle and how to cook it. They will take you sailing around an astonishing fjord and, after the fishing, you will have the option of bringing your King Crabs back to the camp for cooking.
We will also visit the beautiful town of Kirkenes, where we will enjoy a tasty seafood dinner, and rest in a comfortable 4-stars hotel.
Day 7 : The End
Location: Helsinki
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
Next morning, we will take a direct flight to Oslo. We will spend the day visiting this capital and its vibrant story. We will tour around the city and make an important stop at the Viking Museum. Afterwards, we will enjoy a seafood lunch and once we are full, we will visit the Vigeland Park and the Royal Palace, both necessary stops.
Then we will transfer you to the airport, where we will sadly have to bid you farewell and wish you safe travels!

When to travel to Lapland?
There are four distinctly different seasons as far up north as Rovaniemi. However, locals think the conditions are in a constant state of change and say there are up to eight seasons in the year: midwinter, snowy spring, spring, summer, harvest season, autumn leaf colour, first snowfall, and Christmas. Please bear in mind that there is annual fluctuation in weather. Lapland is in the continental climate zone. The winters are cold and rich in snow, but thanks to the Gulf Stream, the summers are relatively warm. Rovaniemi is part of the arctic region; its climate, however, is subarctic and temperate, characterised by strong seasonal contrasts of dark versus bright and cold versus warm.
-
Summer in Lapland
The Midnight Sun and white nights in June and July The Midnight Sun period officially lasts from early June until early July, but nights are white throughout the summer in Rovaniemi. The summer in Lapland can offer an interesting variety of weather conditions, with a longer warm spell expected in July. The warmest time of year brings people out in masses, and various events take place in summery Rovaniemi. Prepare to celebrate until the wee hours, as the sun never goes down. There are plenty of things to do in Rovaniemi in the summer, and with 24 hours of light, there’s no limits to time of action.
-
Spring in Lapland
The snow melts, the ice breaks and nature is reborn in April and May April is still considered a snowy month in Rovaniemi and Lapland, but the snow gradually disappears as May approaches. The ice on rivers and lakes starts melting, and big chunks of ice can be seen flowing downstream. In early April, the last of the Northern Lights displays can be seen. Towards the end of April, nights are too light for the Auroras to be spotted. In May, northern nature starts getting ready to blossom once again after a harsh winter. At the end of May, nights are white. In Rovaniemi, winter activities still run in early April, after which it’s time for non-snow stuff.
-
Winter in Lapland
Christmas, the Polar Night and snowy spring from December to March December and January are snowy months shrouded in the darkness of the Polar Night. The sun comes out in February and marks the start of the snowy, light-filled spring. March is often terrific for Northern Lights viewing. In Rovaniemi, the Official Hometown of Santa Claus, Christmas is a special time, as many flock to the arctic town to meet Santa in person and experience the festive season in magical wintery surroundings. The winter is a great time for a number of activities both in the snow outside and experiencing local culture inside.
-
Autumn in Lapland
First Auroras and first snowfall from August to November Early August is still considered summer by many, but by the end of the month, it’s definitely autumn. The Northern Lights start appearing in late August, and September and October are ideal Aurora viewing months. Temperatures start dropping below zero in October, and first snow usually falls at around the same time period. A permanent snow cover is expected in late November. Autumn leaf colour paints the landscapes in earthy shades, and days are perfect for hiking and other nature related activities, as nights are best reserved for Aurora spotting.
