Rovaniemi in Finland, both Abisko and Kiruna in Sweden and the Lofoten Islands in Norway are the best places to see the Northern lights. You will get the chance to see the amazing Northern Lights during this trip! The pure land in the Arctic Circle, Abisko, must be visited once in a lifetime. The Northern Lights can be seen very often and very bright, and cross-country skiing is a very popular activity. Additionally, people can hike to the top of a nearby mountain to have a panoramic view of the place. The Abisko National Park is a paradise for animals, there are many birds, storks, squirrels, lemmings, reindeer, etc. It is also the starting point of the famous hiking path, King of the Road. Known as the paradise on earth, the Lofoten Islands are famous for their exceptional fisheries, natural attractions and small villages. The Lofoten Islands are scattered around the turbulent Norwegian Sea, revealing the beauty of nature. There are mountains, bottomless fjords, lively seabird gathering grounds. Day 1 : Helsinki

Location: Helsinki

Accommodation: Hotel

In the first day, we will pick you up in Helsinki and we will have a nice breakfast in the city. We will then take the ferry to the old castle: Suomenlinna, and enjoy a visit to this ancient fort, where we will learn about its important history in the defense of Helsinki. After this walk around history, we will return to the city to have a nice lunch and try the tasty traditional cuisine! Once we are full, we will have a stroll in the old traditional market. After the market we will meet Jean Sibelius, one of the most relevant Finnish composers, in his monument at the Sibelius Park. We will have a chance to relax and have a coffee by the ocean, and once we have our recharged our batteries, we will visit the Rock Church, excavated directly into solid rock.

After this exciting day, we will take Santa´s train to Rovaniemi, and once there we will take you to your accommodation.

Day 2 : Rovaniemi

Location: Rovaniemi

During your first day in Rovaniemi, we will give you some free time to relax and walk around. As a first activity of the day, we will drive you to the top of Rovaniemi´s hill, Ounasvaara, from where we will enjoy a beautiful sunrise view. Then we will take you to a Sámi reindeer farm, where you will meet these iconic animals and also, go on a fun and exciting sleigh ride with them! For lunch you will taste a delicious reindeer burger, before we head to the most popular attraction in Rovaniemi, Santa Claus Village! In his village, you will meet the most famous and lovely character of the arctic, Santa himself. You will love this wonderful experience through the attractions of the village. In the evening, you will cross the Arctic Circle and receive a certificate. Then we will go into the forest for dinner: we will prepare a forest campfire grill for you.

As the last activity of the day, you will have to choose between relaxing with a traditional Finnish sauna, an ice sauna or both. You can combine your sauna experience with a swim in a frozen lake!, also a Finnish tradition. During the experience in the lake and if we are lucky, we will be able to see the Northern lights shining over our heads!

Finally, we will take you to your hotel so you can rest for the next day.

Day 3 : Arctic

Location: Rovaniemi

Accommodation: Aurora Nest

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Today we will start the day with a visit to a husky forest farm, where we will go on one of our most exciting activities, a 10 km sled ride through the snowy forest! This adventure will take some time and energy, so right after we finish, we will take a break so you can have lunch (not provided).

As we finish in the farm, we will go to our next adventures, including a tour through the forests of the Arctic Circle on snowmobile, ice fishing, a forest picnic with a campfire grilling, Ice floating... and for dinner, we will go to a log cabin. Once we are full, we will surprise you the last experience of the day, we will go on the hunt for Northern lights in a Aurora nest! We will pull the cabin with our snowmobiles, while you relax under the starry sky.

Day 4 : Abisko

Location: Abisko

Meals Included: Breakfast

On our fourth day, we will travel to Abisko, a beautiful town in a breathtaking landscape in north Sweden. Abisko is one of the best places to see the Northern lights, and because it is surrounded by mountains, the temperature is usually warmer than other places. After spending the first part of the day walking and visiting the highlights of Abisko, we will take a break, so we can have lunch (not included). Afterward, we will visit the Aurora Sky Station, one of the best high points from where you can see Northern lights! After this fantastic show, we will enjoy some snacks over a bonfire in the snow.

Day 5 : Vikings

Location: Lofoten

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Today we will embark in an epic trip, full of the adventure and action that characterized the vikings! We will start the day by sailing through a fjord, and then we will head to the Lofoten Islands. In this paradise on earth, we will enjoy a lunch inspired by the Viking cuisine. If you are curious about the Vikings, it´s your lucky day! We will visit the Viking Museum, and once we finish the visit, we will try our luck hunting Northern Lights from the fjords.

Day 6 : Whales And Islands

Location: Lofoten

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today we will enjoy a majestic view. The ocean arctic whales in their natural habitat. After this amazing experience, we will continue to a tour through the incredible Norwegian islands, and when the night falls over us, we will try our luck hunting Northern lights from the fjords.

Day 7 : Kiruna

Location: Kiruna

Meals Included: Breakfast

We will take the first part of the day to say goodbye to the wonderful Lofoten Islands. But this doesn´t mean we can´t enjoy a nice trip through fjords all the way to the snow city, Kiruna, Sweden. Once in Swedish Lapland, we will visit an stunning Ice Castle. We will be amazed by it´s cold architecture and all the wonder it has to offer and, by the time it gets dark, we will head into the forest. We will try to escape the lights in order to maximize our chances of hunting Northern Lights! While we wait in the forest, we will light a fire to warm ourselves up and enjoy some snacks.

Day 8 : The End

Location: Rovaniemi

Meals Included: Breakfast

On our last day, we will sadly have to bid farewell to the northernmost parts of Lapland and return to Rovaniemi. After the trip, you will have free time to relax around the city and enjoy your last moments in the home of Santa Claus. Then, we will take you to the airport or train station and say goodbye.

Where are we located?

Nordic Unique Travels LTD located in the door to the Arctic: Rovaniemi, Lapland. Our office is approachable by walking distance from the major hotels in the city area (Maakuntakatu 29-31 96200 Rovaniemi Finland). We are in the middle of the city centre, next to Subway and in front of Sale Market. Come make us a visit!
When to travel to Lapland?

There are four distinctly different seasons as far up north as Rovaniemi. However, locals think the conditions are in a constant state of change and say there are up to eight seasons in the year: midwinter, snowy spring, spring, summer, harvest season, autumn leaf colour, first snowfall, and Christmas. Please bear in mind that there is annual fluctuation in weather. Lapland is in the continental climate zone. The winters are cold and rich in snow, but thanks to the Gulf Stream, the summers are relatively warm. Rovaniemi is part of the arctic region; its climate, however, is subarctic and temperate, characterised by strong seasonal contrasts of dark versus bright and cold versus warm.
Summer in Lapland

The Midnight Sun and white nights in June and July The Midnight Sun period officially lasts from early June until early July, but nights are white throughout the summer in Rovaniemi. The summer in Lapland can offer an interesting variety of weather conditions, with a longer warm spell expected in July. The warmest time of year brings people out in masses, and various events take place in summery Rovaniemi. Prepare to celebrate until the wee hours, as the sun never goes down. There are plenty of things to do in Rovaniemi in the summer, and with 24 hours of light, there’s no limits to time of action.
Spring in Lapland

The snow melts, the ice breaks and nature is reborn in April and May April is still considered a snowy month in Rovaniemi and Lapland, but the snow gradually disappears as May approaches. The ice on rivers and lakes starts melting, and big chunks of ice can be seen flowing downstream. In early April, the last of the Northern Lights displays can be seen. Towards the end of April, nights are too light for the Auroras to be spotted. In May, northern nature starts getting ready to blossom once again after a harsh winter. At the end of May, nights are white. In Rovaniemi, winter activities still run in early April, after which it’s time for non-snow stuff.
Winter in Lapland

Christmas, the Polar Night and snowy spring from December to March December and January are snowy months shrouded in the darkness of the Polar Night. The sun comes out in February and marks the start of the snowy, light-filled spring. March is often terrific for Northern Lights viewing. In Rovaniemi, the Official Hometown of Santa Claus, Christmas is a special time, as many flock to the arctic town to meet Santa in person and experience the festive season in magical wintery surroundings. The winter is a great time for a number of activities both in the snow outside and experiencing local culture inside.
Autumn in Lapland

First Auroras and first snowfall from August to November Early August is still considered summer by many, but by the end of the month, it’s definitely autumn. The Northern Lights start appearing in late August, and September and October are ideal Aurora viewing months. Temperatures start dropping below zero in October, and first snow usually falls at around the same time period. A permanent snow cover is expected in late November. Autumn leaf colour paints the landscapes in earthy shades, and days are perfect for hiking and other nature related activities, as nights are best reserved for Aurora spotting.

We had a great time with our 5 day tour package with Nordic Unique Travels with our wonderful, very informative and helpful tour guides, Livia, Francesco, Jan, Erik, Myriam, Nikki, Carlos and Mathias. We did not caught a fish and did not see the northern lights but the Risiintunturi and the snowmobile driving were awesome! The sausage, salmon, salmon soup and hot blueberry juice were very good. The hotel part of the package was at the city center and close to everything, the staffs were friendly and we like it that they have a sauna. Highly recommending NUT 🥰 Thank you very much!

Our good experience/best memory goes to our tour guide, Carlos. Since we had a bad experience on the first day and Carlos was sent to be our guide on the next day. He picked us up and double checked our names just to make sure the all guests were real customers. And he kept saying he won't forget us. He drove carefully according to the law so we could trust him. Along the way he could describe several useful things. We enjoyed talking and didn't fall asleep. He understood his guests and didn't force us to do whatever we didn't want. If we were cold, we could be in the car. BBQ was also good for vegetarians. He kept corns and vegan sausages for us. This made us feel like we were special and turned the bad experience on the first day to good. When he sent us back, he dropped us in front of the apartment door. Thank you so much for the tour and the best tour guide.

I booked once I arrived in rovaniemi, the office was friendly. I booked a few tours. Yuming was a great guide, the reindeer farm was good fun and would recommend, especially for kids. Second tour was snowmobile and husky with ken, again he was great at explaining and giving some general info on Finland while we waited for snowmobile. The last tour was Matthias to the frozen waterfalls. I really liked this tour and guide had loads of stories, facts and info about rovaniemi, the forests, current ecosystem and the past history of the woods and animals. Showed us animal tracks and lots of information on the seasons. Genuine outdoors person who seemed like he enjoyed his job and engaging with customers.

Incredible and wonderful tours! We booked the Aurora hunt, the husky safari and reindeer safari. The experiences were astonishing. Aldo, Miquel and Fotis were our personal guides. They gave us a very welcoming and personal feeling, they explained extensively the life of a husky and reindeer, as well as how the Aurora Borealis works. Highly recommended, we will definitely book here again!

We have joined Nordic Unique Travel for a day tour in Rovaniemi, the trip is really amazing and enjoyable. We first went to hiking, and had a panoramic view of the city. Then we went to visit the museum and got some knowledge of the weather characteristics of finland. Later, we had a delicious lunch buffet in Santa Claus village, and met Santa! Further, we had the reindeer ride. Our lovely guide, Jane, was really helpful. We had another activities at night. When she realized it, she proactively adjusted our schedules of activities to suit the same. She was very familiar with all the details of Finland, and all my family members enjoyed so much! The snowshoeing tour was great!...

The snowshoeing tour was great! We could borrow overalls and shoes for the tour as well as the snowshoes themselves. Our guides, Joel and Jane, did a great job navigating us through the snowy forest to a view point on Vaattunkivaara where we ate some cookies and drank a warm blueberry juice. Highly recommend the tour, you can also be picked up directly at your accommodation if preferred!
