FLY&DRIVE: From the Alps to the Sea

Pick up your car on confirmed location (APT or htl) and drive to nord-west of Slovenia, where you will spend two nights. At this corner of Slovenia, at the border of Italy and Austria it is the region with high mountains, including Mt. Triglav (2864 m), and is almost entirely Alpine.

Welcome to Gorenjska region! One of the many gems of this region are Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj. Bled will impress you with its surroundings and magnificent lake with an island and a church, this is definitely one of the most important and worldwide known attractions in Slovenia. Visit the castle on cliff and take a walk across the castle's courtyard. It offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the lake, while island in the middle of the lake can be visited with traditional boat called “pletna”. You can taste the famous Bleds Cream cakes, to end the beautiful day. You cannot miss Lake Bohinj, the largest natural lake in Slovenia with endless opportunities for outdoor activities. Bohinj is perfect for water activities all year round – from swimming, boat riding, wind surfing, kayaking or canoeing, fishing and diving in warmer months, or sometimes even ice skating and hiking in winter. Take a wonderful tourist boat ride, magical experience of horseback riding, or simply go for a relaxing walk along the shore any time of the year.

The journey continues nord, towards little town known for alpine tourism, Kranjska Gora which is right on the Austrian and Italian border. You will have to pass through Mountain Pass Vršič with its 1,611m is the highest road pass in the Eastern Julian Alps. You can count 50 serpentines along the way to Soča valley, where you will meet the most beautiful of them all, emerald river Soča, that will keep you company along the way to Bovec, a little town with a lot to offer, but first take a good night sleep.

Morning on the sunny side of Slovenian Alps. Explore the Soča valley and its many activities. You can participate in various water sports, rafting, kayak and canyoning. Or you can go hiking and cycling on its many panoramic roads. And the adrenaline enthusiasts can choose between zipline parks and skydiving experience. History lovers can enjoy in secrets and stories from WWI, as this was the area of one of the most important fronts - Isonzo front. Even Ernest Hemingway got inspired by those battlefields for his Farewell to Arms! One thing is for sure, the valley will inspire you too!

Stop in Kobarid, to check out the amazing WWI museum. Continue to Slovenian karst. It is best known for its caves (there are around 8000 recorded) and for the production of air-dried hams or prosciutto which combine perfectly with the region's red wine Teran. Stop in Lipica, famous stud farm with more than 400 years of tradition and special horse breed Lipizzaner. They are a special breed that was created for the emperors of Habsburg empire and are born black but growing up, they change to white. They will surely impress you! Proceed to the Slovenian coast located on top of Istrian peninsula, where you will spend two nights.

In the morning you can walk along the sea, check the market and enjoy the old part of the town. Take a guided tour of small town Piran or Koper, that used to be part of Venetian republic once, so the city's architecture reminds a lot of Venice and is absolutely one of the most adorable cities in the world. There are also two active salt pans in this region to explore. Small one in Strunjan, which are part of Landscape Park Strunjan and bigger one in Sečovlje, which is part of Nature Park. Try your luck in one of the casinos or have a delicious dinner in one of local restaurants. Spend your last evening at the coast with a romantic walk through medieval streets of Koper, Izola and Piran.

You will leave the cost to go back to Karst region. Your adventure will continue in its underworld. The largest and most known cave system is Postojna Cave, the home of the human fish and the only cave with electric train in it. But we must not forget Škocjan Caves (UNESCO world heritage), cave Vilenica the oldest show cave in Europe and others. Last but not least, we must not forget the medieval marvel, of Predjama castle - largest cave castle in the world. Learn about Erazem Predjamski and his escape trails in the underworld. Last night you will spend in the capital city, continue to Ljubljana. Take a guided tour of the city or just walk up to the Castle Hill, the banks of the Ljubljanica river or with a visit to the Tivoli Park. You can admire the architecturally interesting squares, such as the central square Prešeren Square, Republic Square which is the largest square in Ljubljana and Congress Square that is one of the most important meeting centres of the city.

Drop off the car on confirmed location or APT and fly back home full of amazing and unforgettable memories.
