Tour Overview
Step into the ‘Land of Smiles’ and discover an enchanting kingdom where the past and present fuse in perfect harmony. Untamed mountains and jungles, home to local hill tribes and a rich array of wildlife, contrast with cities packed full of modern and traditional culture – this is Thailand. A particular attractive aspect of this holiday is the range of eclectic accommodation used. From city centre hotels to luxury glamping, a great range is on offer.
Your journey begins in the colourful capital city of Bangkok. Impressive modern skyscrapers sit happily alongside ancient shrines and temples; á la carte restaurants compete with local food carts and long lines of traffic flow alongside traditional long tailed boats sailing down the Chao Phraya River. You’ll see the main sights here including the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha Temple as well as doing something a little different. You travel out to stay in two different hotels at Kanchanaburi to enjoy the jungle surround and particularly learn something of the building of the Death Railway, built by the Japanese using allied POWs during WWII.
You fly north to Chiang Rai and visit the Golden Triangle, where Laos, Cambodia and Thailand meet. We have a boat trip on the Mekong River. We will explore the countryside of Northern Thailand. You will walk in the hills and meet local tribes, stopping to understand their lives.Â
Finally in Chiang Mai and immerse ourselves in the history and culture of the city and explore. We also travel out to visit Doi Inthanon and Doi Suthep National Parks. Â Doi Inthanon is named after the highest mountain in Thailand.
Please note the November 2024 departure follows a different itinerary. Please check the Holiday Information Sheet for that departure.
