Day 1 : Bucharest City Tour
Location: Palace of Parliament, Village Museum, The old town
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

Your day tour of Bucharest begins with the most distinctive building in the city, dating back to the communist period, the Palace of the Parliament. Also known as the House of the People, the impressive edifice entered the Guinness World Records as the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon. As you step through imposing marble rooms, your tour guide will share with you the grim details that enabled its construction.
Your day in Bucharest continues with a sightseeing tour of Bucharest's Old Town, which shelters several historical sites, architectural gems and representative buildings. This is Bucharest's hotspot for nightlife, and its beautiful chaos will make you feel the vibe of the city. Your Bucharest tour comes to an end, and you will be transferred to the hotel.

Day 2 : Bucharest - Curtea De ArgeÈ™ - Sibiu
Location: Curtea de Arges Monastery, Sibiu, Transfăgărășan
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

On the second day of your tour in Romania, you will leave for the beautiful region of Transylvania from Bucharest. But first, you will stop at an important religious landmark, Curtea de Arges Monastery, located at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. Afterward, you will take a road trip through the Olt Valley, and admire some of the stunning untouched landscapes of the region before reaching Cozia Monastery, a religious house that reflects the national medieval art and architecture.

*In the summertime (Mid June to Early November), the trip to Cozia Monastery will be replaced with a road trip on Trasnfăgărășan Highway.

Your next stop is at Sibiu, a city that was named the European Capital of Culture in 2007, where you will take a walking tour of a city that triumphantly blends history and multicultural elements. In your city tour, you will explore the Main Square of Sibiu, where you will admire the building of the Brukenthal Museum and the Roman Catholic Cathedral before visiting the Huet Square with its Evangelical Church.

Afterward, you will go through the passage of stairs and cross the famous Bridge of Lies.

Day 3 : Sibiu - Sibiel - Alba Iulia - Turda - Cluj-Napoca
Location: Sibiel, The Citadel Alba-Carolina, Salina Turda, Cluj-Napoca

Your tour of Romania will continue with a rural replica of Sibiu – Sibiel – a quaint Transylvanian village appraised as one of the most authentic and well-preserved rural areas in Europe.
After a short walk in the village, the tour continues with a short trip to Alba Iulia, where you will visit the largest fortress in Romania, surrounded by 12 km of walls and built in the shape of a star. Alba Carolina Fortress was successively a Roman fort, a fortress during the Middle Ages and later built in the Vauban style.

Your next destination is Turda Salt Mine, a huge subterranean salt mine, where you will take that amazing photo that will amaze everyone! Your tour guide will take you through the hundreds of meters of galleries open into halls, one of them 118 meters tall, with a lake at the bottom. The sights inside the mine are otherworldly, attracting artists in search of spectacular views.

The journey continues with the largest city in Transylvania, Cluj-Napoca, proclaimed the city of arts.

Day 4 : Cluj Napoca - Breb - Barsana - Sighetu Marmatiei
Location: Maramureș County, Merry Cemetery, Biserica de lemn din Călinești Căeni
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

On the fourth day of your Tour in Romania, the first hours of the day will be devoted to a city tour of Cluj-Napoca. The St Michael’s Gothic Cathedral overlooking the city’s central square comes first on our list of attractions for the day, followed by the Banffy Palace, the former mayor’s hall, and the Mirror Street.

From Cluj, you will be heading to the northwestern part of Romania, MaramureÈ™, a region resembling a fascinating open-air museum. Lacking rights and privileges for hundreds of years, the dwellers of these places have managed to overcome hardship by following two simple rules: live your life to the full and cherish, above all, the richness of the soul.

MaramureÈ™ people are considered to be the most hospitable Romanians and their traditional wooden houses are a living part of their history. You will visit Breb, one of the best preserved traditional villages in Maramures and explore the local's way of living by coming in contact with them and visiting an authentic house. Today you will have a traditional Romanian lunch, freshly cooked with local products.
Our final destination of the day, Săpînţa, the world’s only community with a Merry Cemetery. The wood carved crosses painted in bright colours display witty, humorous quatrains inspired by the lives of those who are no longer with us.

Romanian traditional dinner and folkloric show.

Day 5 : Unesco Wooden Churches - Sighetu Marmatiei - Targu Mures
Location: Bârsana Monastery, Memorial to the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance, Wooden church Paraschiva
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

In the fifth day of your Romania tour, you will visit two ancient wooden churches that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre: Poienile Izei (Iza Meadows) and Barsana, the latter being one of the largest Orthodox architectural ensembles in Romania. Perfected across generations, the art of woodcarving remains the chief craft of the local community, as you will see in the workshop of a local artisan. After his presentation, you’ll be able to buy unique hand-made souvenirs.

Today you will have the opportunity to taste the local products in one of the most picturesque and well-preserved regions of Romania. The locals still use their own harvest from their garden to make delicious dishes.

In the evening we will reach Targu Mures, a city recognized for its ethnic and cultural diversity.

Day 6 : Targu Mures - Biertan - Sighisoara - Viscri - Brasov
Location: The Fortified Church of Biertan, Sighisoara Citadel, Viscri
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

On the sixth day of your Classic Romania Tour, you will reach Biertan, the largest fortified church in Transylvania, built by the Saxons in the sixteenth century and nowadays listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

An important highlight of the Classic Romania Tour is Sighișoara, the only inhabited medieval fortress included in UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. This is the place where you can find out more about Dracula’s legends, and about the life of the real life ruler, Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Tepes).

Walking up the winding cobblestone streets lined with historic buildings, you reach the Clock Tower, a symbol of the city, from where you can admire the breathtaking views. The Tower shelters a museum of medieval weapons and a torture chamber. After visiting the tower you will climb the three hundred wooden steps up to the Church-on-the-Hill, built in the XIV century.

Fascinated by life in the countryside and the peaceful atmosphere of this Transylvanian village, His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, restored one of the traditional houses in Viscri village, making it the place where he returns every year in May. Besides admiring the specific architecture of Viscri houses, you will enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the village, which will provide you the opportunity to enjoy the calm, rural scenery. Later you will have the chance to visit the locals and enjoy some of the best home-made cakes in Transylvania.

Then, you will reach Brasov, a city founded by the Teutonic Knights, located at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains.

Day 7 : Brasov - Bran - Sinaia - Bucharest
Location: Bran Castle, Peleș Castle
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

The seventh day of your Tour in Romania brings you in Council Square, the central square of Brasov, where you will take a walking tour of the city and explore one of the narrowest streets in the world – Rope Street (Strada Sforii). Admire the building of the famous Gothic Cathedral named the Black Church (Biserica Neagra), after a terrible fire from 1689.

Now it's time to visit the famous Bran Castle on a tour from Brasov. Here, you will complete the stories, in a Dracula tour inside the castle.

Bran is one of the world's spookiest medieval castles and is more commonly known as Dracula's Castle. It was built in the 13th century, set strategically atop a 60-meter cliff, towering over the most important access route into the medieval Transylvania.

Later on, you will reach this small but eye-catching mountain resort rose to fame mostly thanks to the Romanian Royal Family who chose Sinaia as their royal residence in the 20th century. Your first stop will be the Orthodox Monastery in Sinaia, continuing with Peles Castle, the splendid Gothic style castle built by the first king of Romania, Carol I of Hohenzollern Sigmaringen. Here, you will take a castle tour and discover some of the life of the Romanian royal family.

In the evening you will reach Bucharest and your tour of Transylvania will come to an end.

Rolandia is the best

02-Oct-2018

In a nutshell ROLANDIA is THE BEST - liaise with Ioana and insist on VAL. Do this before everyone else finds out! Went on a private tour with four close friends following the itinerary of the The Classic Tour. Requested upgraded hotels. Everything and much more delivered. Looked after very well and have had one of the best holidays ever; was really sad saying goodbye to VAL. Every day a memory and Val tried to help us all the time eg we needed a trip to the supermarket one evening so he came with us and helped us translate, etc. This is an arduous trip as described, but Rolandia will accommodate changes as requested - ie just tell Ioana you need a slower pace or want to concentrate on certain things and she’ll sort in your itinerary before finalised. I’d recommend a couple of days in one spot near the beginning and near the end tailored to the kind of place you like. Romania is fascinating, interesting, safe and comfortable with Rolandia. They’ll deliver. Show less

An excellent insight and a great way to experience what Romania has to offer.

04-Sep-2018

We chose Rolandia for our Romanian holiday due to the excellent reports we had read on the internet. We were not disappointed as the Classic Romania Tour that we selected to do was outstanding. The accommodation provided on the tour was excellent. Well selected location wise, clean, comfortable and mostly in well renovated charming small hotels. The tour highlights were plentiful, interesting and variable. The tour was well paced with a mixture of scenery and history providing a constant source of delight. The transport provided for the tour and for our transport between airport and hotels was excellent as well. Our guide was fantastic. So experienced and knowledgeable, interesting, amusing and accommodating. He seemed to know everyone we met and they all loved him. And in the end we loved him as well and now count him as a good friend whom we hope to see again one day soon. Also a big thank you to Rolandia’s Ioana providing prompt and constant feedback to us when we were organizing our holiday and doing so in such a nice friendly manner. Romania has the history, scenery and amazing buildings to match the rest of Europe but without the crowds and at a fraction of the cost. In short we loved Romania and highly recommend a visit. You will not be disappointed. Rob and Joy, Perth, Western Australia.

Took a chance on Rolandia and Won

05-Oct-2018

Five of us were looking to do a pre-cruise tour of Romania. After searching the internet, I took a chance on Rolandia Travel and made an inquiry. I received an immediate response from Ioana with answers to our questions. Over the next few weeks, she continued to provide information and instill confidence to book the Classic Romania tour. Throughout the process Ioana was very responsive, friendly, and professional but most of all she ensured that our needs were met. We asked that Val be our tour guide and were very pleased that he could accommodate us. We found Val to be very knowledgeable, informative, professional, and extremely helpful. If you truly want to see Romania this is the guide for you. He kept to the schedule and made sure we didn't miss a thing. He also brought us to the unexpected. We viewed honor guards with exploding cannons, experienced special tastes at local markets and saw an operational still producing the local palinka. Please note that some of the drives and the days are long but well worth the effort. We enjoyed stunning views along the Transfagarasan highway and of the beautiful Romanian country side. If you would prefer a more leisurely pace I would add an extra night along the way. We selected four star accommodations and overall they were very good. We found the food to be plentiful and delicious but a bit heavy. I believe we won the lottery with Rolandia as the Classic Romania tour was an exceptional experience and value.

Simply the best tour imaginable

16-Jul-2019

The Classic Romania tour that I joined in June 2019 was one of the best travelling experiences I've had. There was a group of 8 who, together with Claudia (who was just the best guide imaginable), laughed and drank our way through Romanian towns and villages and forests for 8 wonderful, sunny days. Perhaps we were lucky that we were all so relaxed and well suited; perhaps it was that Claudia was such a knowledgeable and outgoing guide; perhaps Romania is just such a beautiful place; perhaps the accommodation was so well chosen and the food so good; perhaps it was all of those things and more. I recommend this tour without reservation. I'd do it again.

Authentic and awe-inspiring tour

23-May-2018

A very thoughtfully curated journey through Transylvania and the Carpathian Mountains, linking the history and culture of Romania through different eras. We visited such a diverse spectrum of towns including small villages to cosmapolitan cities, including Cluj and Brasov. We were invited into people's houses to sample the local flavours and regional cuisine and learned a lot about how the location of the country makes it a crossroads for many different cultures, histories, cuisines, histories, and perspectives. We came home with a greater appreciation of Romania and we were delighted to be given an insiders perspective. Our guide Cristian was a fantastic host. Cristian was a great driver and had a comfortable car. He was also very passionate about Romania, its history and its culture. He took a lot of time to answer questions from us, as well as provide anecdotes; including the socio-political context of historical events to modern tastes and fashions of the local communities. He was able to explain the historical relevance of the figures represented in statues and cathedral murals, from the Roman times to modern day. The hotels we stayed at were decent, modern and clean. Although, our favourite was one with a more traditional flavor, The Gradina Morii, a Bavarian style Inn, situated by a lovely river and park with a wonderful garden restaurant. All the hotels had a wide variety of food and many vegetarian options. Please note that if you are vegetarian, let Rolandia travel know ahead oif time and they will accomidate you. We did not have to miss the cuisine at any of the dinners with locals, or the traditional folklore show. Thanks to Viator and Rolandia travel we felt safe and taken care of during our whole travel experience in Romania. We can't wait to go back!
