Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival - Bucharest City Tour
Location: Henri Coandă International Airport, Bucharest, Snagov, Bucharest
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Dinner

Bucharest has the allure that many other capitals have: new buildings combined with historical monuments (such as the Palace of the Parliament) and the hustle of a restless city. Your journey in the country of supernatural and vampires will start from the capital city and it has so many included activities. This Dracula tour will let you explore all the places that are related to the mysterious phenomena and mythical creatures that failed to be explained.

At only a few kilometers away from Bucharest, you will reach Snagov Monastery. The monastery is located on a small island at the center of Lake Snagov and has only a tiny chapel inhabited by one monk. The former church has sunk and is now in the depths of the water. People say that its sunken bell can still be heard tolling.

In the evening you will visit Bucharest's Old Centre. The narrow streets from nowadays, which are filled with stylish bistros and cafes, are the place that public trials were held. The judge of these trials was the Wallachian prince Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Tepes), the man that inspired the legend of Dracula. The day ends with a lovely dinner at a cozy restaurant.

Day 2 : Bucharest - Poenari Castle-Sibiu
Location: Bucharest, Poenari Citadel, Sibiu
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

After breakfast, you will begin your Halloween tour in Transylvania, and your first destination for the day is the city of Sibiu. You will arrive there by following the former trade routes taken by armies, caravans, or fugitives hundreds of years ago, through the Carpathian Mountains. Once there, you will visit the beautiful historic city with its large and picturesque square and learn the secrets that have been guarded by the city's walls and the catacombs underneath.

On the way, if the weather allow us will have a stop at Poenari Castle. Built in 15th century by Vlad the Impaler is considered the real draculas castle. En route to the ruins of draculas poenari castle are 1480 steps to climb.

This journey will take you to the Olt Valley, a place where nature remained in its pure and wild form. Olt Valley is a very well conserved and picturesque natural area in Romania. It offers a truly spectacular view to everyone that passes its gorges.

Sibiu city tour includes visiting some of the old town's heritage sites. Some of them are the Main Square with Brukenthal Museum, and the Roman Catholic Cathedral. You will also visit the Evangelical Church located in Huet Square. After passing the Stairs Passage, you will also get to cross the famous Liars Bridge. If you have free time in Sibiu we have a list of things to do here.

Overnight in Sibiu.

Day 3 : Sibiu - Hunedoara - Turda
Location: Sibiu, Castelul Corvinilor (Corvins' Castle), Salina Turda
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

After breakfast, your Halloween trip continues with exploring further the region and castles from Transylvania, that has yet more to reveal. It will make your trip unforgettable.

Today's main attraction is the medieval castle, Corvin Castle, whose visitors can never forget it. Several international publications included it among the most impressive castles in the world. To top it up, Corvin Castle might also feature in a top of awe-inspiring, haunted places.

Corvin Castle is definitely a place that you want to visit in Romania, a location taken out of a fairytale. Built-in more phases, starting from 1440, the castle is truly a Gothic work of art. The construction has three main areas of interest: the Knight's Hall, the Diet Hall, and the circular stairways. The castle was used both for defense and as a prison. It is said that the prison had a bear pit, where prisoners were thrown to be eaten by wild animals.

The journey's next stop is Turda Salt Mine, a spectacular and unique site. The salt mine consists of a vast underground cave carved in salt, with hundreds of meters of galleries which open into halls. The biggest gallery is 90 meters tall, and it has a lake at the bottom. The sights inside are otherworldly, and they attract artists in search of spectacular views.

Overnight in Turda.

Day 4 : Turda - Biertan - Sighisoara - Bran
Location: Salina Turda, Biertan, Sighișoara, Bran

Your Halloween in Transylvania continues with a visit to Biertan Village. In there is located Biertan Fortified Church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site that dates back from the Middle Ages. It inspired many novelists with its cold appeal. The fortress was built somewhere in the 15th century and is one of the biggest fortified churches in Transylvania. The fort is a dominant landmark in the area as it has three defensive walls and eight towers.

Sighisoara Citadel is known to be the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the prince that is at the core of Dracula's legend. His name, Vlad Dracul, was inspired by his father's name, Vlad Dracul. Sighisoara is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Eastern Europe.

You will visit the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler at the house Casa Dracula (Dracula's house) and the Clock Tower. The house is situated next to a Dominican monastery, and today it hosts a pub and a restaurant. The legend-filled house is popular among the people that are interested in the famous vampire.

Your next stop is at Bran Castle, where all the magic happens.

Overnight in Bran.

Day 5 : Bran - Brasov City Tour - Dracula Castle (Halloween Party) - Bran
Location: Bran, Brașov
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After having breakfast, your first stop for the day is the city of Brasov. The town has a medieval ambiance given by the famous Gothic cathedral, The Black Church, the largest cathedral in Southeastern Europe. The edifice dates from the 14th century. However, due to many external factors, it was finalized only in the late 15th century. First known as Saint Mary's church, the edifice gained its actual name after a massive fire destroyed most of the construction. Its outside walls remained blackened as a repercussion. If you wander around the streets of Brasov, you cannot miss catching a glimpse of this iconic medieval church.

You will also take a city tour and get a glimpse of the most famous tourist landmarks. Lunch will be at a lovely, traditional restaurant in Brasov.

The evening is booked for your Halloween party at Dracula's Castle. You will have the chance to pick your Halloween costumes, get ready, and have a tour of Bran Castle in the most symbolic night of the year. The castle is going to be decorated for this special occasion: the Halloween night. Even if you choose a fancy dress or only a cape will be impresed by the variety of costumes. Ielele, evil fairies from the Romanian folklore, will undoubtedly try to lure you into their world. If celebrating Halloween in Transylvanias spookiest medieval citadel will make you feel uncomfortable, we recommend you to try the traditional Romanian food and the Romanian wine. These will definitely bring the joy back to you.
Also the ded wine, black vodka, and evil fairies are some of the ingredients that will make your Halloween night amazing.

*Be aware to party as hard as you can and not sit around as the living dead moroi will come and get you.

Count Dracula will be your host until past midnight, when he will invite you to his private party, in a tent placed in the Royal Park.

Overnight in Bran.

Day 6 : Bran – Pelisor Castle – Bucharest
Location: Bran, Sinaia, Bucharest
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

The day after the Halloween party will start late so that everyone can sleep in and recharge. You will go through Prahova Valley to Sinaia, to visit the remarkable Pelisor Castle, the younger brother of Peles Castle. King Carol I commissioned the construction, and it was built between 1899 and 1902. It was meant to be the residence of the Romanian royals, King Ferdinand and Queen Marie.

Designed by Karel Liman, a Czech architect, in an art nouveau style, the castle is now a museum that is open for visits. Queen Marie herself participated in designing the palace.

My Halloween time in Romania

10-Nov-2017

A friend and I went on the Halloween in Transylvania 2016: Midnight Tales with an amazing guide, Anne. We toured through Romania visiting castles, churches, villages, countryside, mountains and cities. Our guide was fun, knowledgeable and gave us a new understanding of Romanian culture and history. We both had an unforgettable experience and would highly recommend Anne to other travellers.
