Your Dracula tour will introduce you to the story of how Vlad the Impaler came to be associated with the legend of Dracula. The castle was built in the 13th century by the Saxons of Brasov on top of an older wooden fortification erected by the Teutonic Knights.

After visiting the castle, you will take the old trade route that passes the Carpathian Mountains and head to Rasnov, medieval citadel perched on a hill ever since the 14th century. Your day will come to an end after visiting Rasnov fortress and will head back to the medieval city of Brasov to spend the night. If the time allows, at night, you can take a walking tour through Brasov's Council Square and the Black Church.

In the morning, the tours starting at 09:00 AM from Brasov and you will leave for Fagaras, an imposing citadel dating back to the feudal ages. The Fagaras Citadel has an impressive defensive system that allowed it to be one of the few structures that were never conquered. It is surrounded by a moat and by two rows of walls, which makes it very difficult to lay siege to.

In Transylvania, you will hear about the legends at every step. On your quest to discover the medieval castles of this land, you will drive through some of the authentic Romanian villages in the area to reach Rupea fortress. In Rupea will find one of the oldest archeological sites in Romania, the first documentary recorded was in the 14th century. But the signs of human settlements are dating from the Paleolithic and early Neolithic ages. The Rupea Citadel was fully refurbished in 2013. A legend says that Decebalus, the famous Dacian king, committed suicide here during the Second Dacian War in 106 AD.

Although Transylvania’s citadels and castles are spectacular, one should not miss the medieval villages that preserve the medieval lifestyle from all the corners of Europe. On the third day of your medieval tour of Romania, you will head to Richis, a small village near Biertan, that is home to a fortified gothic church with an age of over 500 years.

From Richis, you will head to Biertan, which boasts with the largest fortified church in Romania, surrounded by three rows of walls protected by six towers and three bastions. Biertan is one of Transylvania's villages with fortified churches and has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Centre since 1993.

Your next stop is at Alba Iulia, a city where Romania's history vibrated for more than 2000 years. This place was, over the years, home to a Roman Fort, a medieval defense fortress, and ultimately, a large stellar-shaped fortress with bastions in Romania, built in a Vauban style.

One of the most impressive Transylvanian castles is the famous Corvin Castle.

The castle built in a Gothic style is underlined by tall towers decorated with dragons carved in stone, seemingly taken out of a fantasy novel. Also known as the Hunyadi Castle, it amazes not only through its architecture but also through the story that ties it to John Hunyadi, one of the legendary heroes that helped stop the Ottoman invasion.

After visiting Corvin Castle, you will drive to Sibiu, where you will spend the night in a beautiful boutique hotel.

Day 4 : Sibiu – Curtea De Arges – Bucharest

Your fourth and final day starts with a city tour of Sibiu historic center, a city that simply cannot be excluded from a medieval tour of Romania. Sibiu's characteristics resemble those of a medieval German town: a large square surrounded by the most representative buildings. You will take a walking tour through the city, and in order to reach the defensive walls, you will pass over the most famous bridge in Romania, the Bridge of Lies.

After leaving Sibiu, you will pass through the Carpathian Mountains. Driving along the bank of the Olt River while enjoying the beautiful landscape. Your final stop will be at Curtea de Arges, where will visit one of the most beautiful Orthodox Churches in Romania and the Necropolis of the great kings of Romania.

During the summer, from the end of June, we can cross the Carpathian mountains on Transfagarasan road. On the way is the Poienari Fortress, known as the real Dracula's Castle, standing up on a hill after climbing 1480 steps.

Exceeded our expectations!

04-Nov-2019

Ours was a private tour--just my husband and me with Nick, our guide. Nick spoke excellent English, conveyed the historic information in an entertaining way, and was a good driver, too. The accommodations were unique and memorable, with a great breakfast each morning. I especially liked visiting Corvin, Bran and Peles Castles. Getting my picture taken in front of Dracula's birthplace was an added treat. If you have just four days to see Romania, this is the perfect tour.

Lovely for families!

20-Mar-2019

We traveled this year with our family and the sightseeing was amazing! This is a must do tour if you don't have that much time but you want to see the most in 4 days! Our tour guide Claudia was very punctual and informative and she picked us up from the hotel in time every morning. The tour is very well thought, you get to see Dracula Castle, Corvin Castle and many other beautiful places, and you also experience a traditional lunch which is amazing! The communication with the company was very good, they are prompt and they made sure we enjoy everything in this tour. We booked the 3* hotels and all of them were nice and cozy, boutique style. The personnel was very kind to us, breakfasts had many options for all diets. It is a bit tiring but after checking my gallery, it was well worth it :) Thank you guys, we'll come back soon! A Fairy Tale Place and Trip

25-Jun-2019

We had an amazing trip. Not only Romania is a beautiful country but it is also full of heart-warmed people. Cristian Caprioara was an over-the-top tour guide. He is knowledgeable, patient, and very caring. After visiting 45 countries with a dozen of tour guides, we certainly state that Cristian is definitely at the top. He manages to drive, schedule daily activities, describe places, and even recommend good eating places at the same time. Job well done! As of the trip, the accommodations were fine and the car comfortable. All places were fantastic, full of history and gorgeous sightseeing. Finally, thank you so much for arranging a visit to the Palace of Parliament. Cristian from the first day was also a nice tour guide. This trip was an incredible journey. Thank you!

A fantastic trip, would highly recommend

26-Jul-2019

My friend and I both had an amazing trip around Transylvania and would definitely recommend the 4-day Transylvanian Castle Tour with Rolandia. I would say that if you can spare more time consider one of their longer tours as Romania has much to offer! We booked onto a group tour but were the only participants so essentially had a private tour. The booking process was easy and Ioana was quick, friendly and helpful when answering any queries over email. Our tour guide, Dan, was fantastic! He has an incredible knowledge on the history his country and we enjoyed learning about the long and varied history of Transylvania and modern day Romania, both at sights and during the driving portions of the trip. Dan also went above and beyond to make sure we had the best trip possible - giving us restaurant recommendations, helping us get to where we needed to go after the tour, arranging for another great driver for an excursion we had booked, and just generally making sure we were comfortable. The tour was well structured and covered great stops, including some that weren't part of similar tours (such as the amazing Corvin Castle). We were also lucky to go during the summer months which meant a trip over the Transfagarasan Highway. Due to the nature of where sights are there was a lot of driving but the tour maximised the route to keep this at a minimum and this gave as the opportunity to see lots of the Romanian countryside and make the most of air conditioning during the summer heat. We were never rushed during any of our visits and felt the benefits of travelling with a local (such as being able to skip lines). The hotels used were all very comfortable and well located close to the central areas of each town we stayed in so that we could easily explore at the end of the day.
