Highlights
Ngorongoro Crater - The jewel in Ngorongoro’s crown is a deep, volcanic crater, the largest un flooded and unbroken caldera in the world. About 20kms across, 600 meters deep and 300 sq. kms in area, the Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s most famous sites and is said to have the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa. The Crater has achieved world renown, attracting an ever-increasing number of visitors each year. You are unlikely to escape other vehicles here, but you are guaranteed great wildlife viewing in a genuinely mind-blowing environment. There is nowhere else in Africa quite like Ngorongoro! The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Forming a spectacular bowl of about 265 square kilometers, with sides up to 600 meters deep; it is home to approximately 30,000 animals at any one time. The Crater rim is over 2,200 meters high and experiences its own climate. From this high vantage point it is possible to make out the tiny shapes of animals making their way around the crater floor far below. Swathes of cloud hang around the rocky rim most days of the year and it’s one of the few places in Tanzania where it can get chilly at night. The crater floor consists of a number of different habitats that include grassland, swamps, forests and Lake Makat (Maasai for ‘salt’) – a central soda lake filled by the Munge River. All these various environments attract wildlife to drink, wallow, graze, hide or climb. Although animals are free to move in and out of this contained environment, the rich volcanic soil, lush forests and spring source lakes on the crater floor (combined with fairly steep crater sides) tend to incline both grazers and predators to remain throughout the year. Part of the reason behind the Ngorongoro Conservation Area has been to preserve the environment for the Maasai people who were diverted from the Serengeti Plains. Essentially nomadic people, they build temporary villages in circular homesteads called bomas. Best sigthing for The endangered Black Rhino, Black mane Lions of the crater, Buffalo, Spotted Hyena, Elephants, Hippos, and one of the great sighting of Gray crowned heron.
Serengeti National Park - A million Wildebeest each one driven by the same ancient rhythm. Fulfilling its instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life. Frenzied three weeks bout of territorial conquests and mating. Survival of the fittest as 40km {25milles} long columns plunge through crocodile infested waters on the annual exodus north to the Maasai Mara. Relishing the species in brief population explosion that produces more than 8000 calves daily around the Ndutu before the 1000km {600miles} pilgrimage begins again. Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park, A UNESCO world heritage site famed for its annual migration, Some three million hooves – not only wildebeest but also zebra, and gazelle-march as one in search of fresh grazing and water, Even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers scintillating game viewing: Smaller groups of elephants, buffalo, giraffe, and the best sighting of big predators in the continent, lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. There is also wooded hills and towering termite mound, river lined with fig tree, small lakes, plains dotted with broken kopjes, and swamps, There is more not only large mammals, variety of dung beetle, lizards, and birds. Size of the park is 14763sq km (5,700sq miles). Best sighting for Great migration, Cheetah, Lion, Giraffe, Topi, Hartebeest, Elands, Hippos, Leopard, and great variety of birds.
Lake Manyara National Park - Nestled below the dramatic rift valley escarpment, Lake Manyara was extolled by Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”.From the entrance the road winds through an expense of lush jungle-like groundwater forest where hundreds- strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the road side, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily through the shadow, and outsized forest hornbills honk cacophonously in the high canopy. Best sighting for Tree climbing Lion (don’t kill yourself on these just take it as a bonus), Leopard, Elephants, Hippos, Baboons, Buffalo, one of the best place for birds.
