Day 08 : Horton plains National park -Nuwaraeliya Early in the morning leave to Horton Plains. The worlds end a scrumptious breakfast we will be accompanying you to Horton Plains. Shrouded in cold windy mist on top of the Sri Lankan hill country. Once in the Horton Plains a few kilometers’ walking will take you to witness “The world’s end”, the place where you feel the end of the world. The ideal place for relaxing your mind where you can abandon all your sorrows. Horton plans or “Maha Eliya tenna” called in Sinhalese. .Horton plane is montane grassland and cloud forest. This is the largest park (plane in the central hills). I can advise you to visit this eye-catching place visit in the morning time because you can feel the wonder of mist. According to my experience, you need to stay at least half a day to work around this wonderful place. There are two entries to this place named as Pattipola and Ohiya gates. Horton Plains The great plains of the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka was discovered by the planter Thomas Farr in the early 19th century. In 1834, it was named Horton Plains in honour of then Governor of Ceylon (1831-1837) Sir Robert Wilmott Horton. In the year 1969, Horton Plains has declared a nature reserve. In 1988, the reserve was elevated to the status of a National Park. The gently rolling plateau of Horton Plains at the southern end of the central montane massif of Sri Lanka is interspersed with network of streams and channels. The Montane forest is also the source of three major rivers of Sri Lanka: River Mahaweli-the longest river of Sri Lanka, River Walave and River Kelani. Still more, Horton Plains is bounded by the country’s second and third highest mountain peaks of Sri Lanka: Mount Kirigalpotta Kanda (2389 m) and Mount Thotupola Kanda (2357 m). The escarpment with a depth of 900 meters called World’s End and Baker’s fall is one of the highlights of the Horton Plains. Horton Plains in Sri Lanka is the coldest and windiest location in the country. It consists of ecosystems such as montane evergreen forests, grasslands, marshy lands and aquatic ecosystem. At an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level, Horton Plains spreads across over 3,169 hectares of the highest tableland of the island. In view of the large number of endemic flora and fauna species, Horton Plains was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 30th July 2010. Horton Plains, its surroundings, forests and the adjoining Peak Wilderness constitute Sri Lanka’s most important catchment area of almost all major rivers. The plains are also of outstanding scenic beauty and conservation importance, containing most of the habitats and endemic plants and animals representative of the country’s wet and montane zones. The western slopes support the most extensive area of montane cloud forest surviving on the island. Horton Plains is not merely a destination for nature tourists. Since the rich biodiversity of Horton Plains is still grossly underexplored, it affords invaluable opportunities to those engaged on educational and research activities. Protecting Horton Plains is a call of duty for all Sri Lankans. Special Consideration: Whenever you visit Horton plains always keep the beautiful and protect the nature Plan for tour itinerary Activities : • Early Morning leave to Horton plains, scrumptious breakfast we will be accompanying you • Backs water falls • Strawberry farm • Ambewela New Zealand Farm • Relax on hotel Overnights Stay at Hotel • Overnight stay at hotel

The area has a rich bio-diversity, dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. Ella is surrounded by hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations. The town has a cooler climate than the surrounding lowlands, due to its elevation. The Ella Gap allows views across the southern plains of Sri Lanka. Nine Arch Bridge also called the Bridge in the Sky is a viaduct bridge in Sri Lanka. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. The chief designer and project manager of the 'upcountry railway line of Ceylon' project was D. J. Wimalasurendra, a distinguished Ceylonese engineer and inventor. The designer of the viaduct was Harold Cuthbert Marwood of Railway Construction Department of Ceylon Government Railway. The 1923 report titled Construction of a Concrete Railway Viaduct in Ceylon published by the Engineering Association of Ceylon has details of all the records including the plans and drawings. Popular rumours suggest that when construction work commenced on the bridge, the Great War began between the empires of Europe and the steel assigned for this site was reallocated to Britain's War related projects at the battlefront. As a result, the work came to a standstill, leading the locals to build the bridge with stone bricks and cement, but without steel. It is located in Demodara, between Ella and Demodara railway stations. The surrounding area has seen a steady increase of tourism due to the bridge's architectural ingenuity and the profuse greenery in the nearby hillsides Flying Ravana Zip line Ella you will get the best adventure experience from Zipline Ella Sri Lanka has always been at the forefront of offering visitors to Sri Lanka something different. This charming village visited by travellers on their way to somewhere else has over the past 20 years, gradually became a destination in itself. It is Sri Lanka’s first two-laned zip-line in Ella. It stretches half a kilometre and claims to be the second-longest in South East Asia. Little Adams Peak, Mini Adams Peak is the closest and the easiest hike in Ella. Popular among tourists for the dashing, panoramic views you would ever witness in Sri Lanka Mini Adams Peak is the closest and the easiest hike in Ella. Popular among tourists for the dashing, panoramic views you would ever witness in Sri Lanka The peak is not to be confused with Adam’s peak, which is a little way away and a considerably tougher and longer hike.
