Starting in elegant St. Petersburg and traversing the mighty Trans Siberian Railway you will visit all that Russia has to offer as well as the wilderness of Mongolia. Spanning histories and time zones this is truly a majestic journey.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive St. Petersburg
Location: St. Petersburg
Our journey begins in Imperial St. Petersburg, amidst domes, pastel facades of 18th century architecture and a bewildering array of museums.
Please meet your Tour Leader at 5:00pm for your Welcome Meeting as detailed on your joining instructions.
Day 2: St. Petersburg And To Moscow
Location: Train - St. Petersburg to Moscow
Today we visit the Hermitage, rightly famous for its collection but perhaps there is also time to visit the Russia Museum, another treasure house of the city, before we board our first overnight train taking, bound for Moscow.
Day 3: Moscow
Location: Moscow
Moscow will dazzle where St. Petersburg charmed; the swirling cupolas of St. Basils of Red Square, the underground brilliance of the metro and the unrivaled collection of the Armoury Chamber within the Kremlin will leave you amazed.
Day 4: Moscow And To Yekaterinburg
Location: Train - Moscow to Yekaterinburg
On to Yekaterinburg where we learn of the downfall of the Romanovs and the end of the Tsarist regime.
Day 5: Yekaterinburg

Welcome to the picturesque and historic city of Yekaterinburg.
Situated near the Ural Mountains, Yekaterinburg is a vibrant modern city rich in minerals and history. Here you can delve into the history that brought the end to Tsarist Russia, always a fascinating stop en route.
Day 6: Yekaterinburg

Visit the enormous Byzantine-style church built on the site of the Romanovs’ execution, stand on the boundary line of Europe and Asia, take in the urban panorama from the Vysotskiy Viewing Platform and stroll around an impressive collection of museums and historic monuments.
Day 7: Trans Siberian Railway
Location: Train - Yekaterinburg to Irkutsk
Our Trans Siberian journey continues across wide rivers and span bridges, time and distance slip away as we while away the hours in the dining car making new friends, gazing from the window or relaxing in our cabins.
Day 8: Trans Siberian Railway
Location: Train - Yekaterinburg to Irkutsk
Settle in and gaze back at Russia as she rushes past our windows. Travelling on board local train services provides the ideal opportunity for you to strike up a conversation with some Russian commuters or holiday makers about their daily lives, all important restaurant and sightseeing tips or learn some new card games and Russian phrases.
Day 9: Irkutsk And To Lake Baikal

This evening we arrive in Irkutsk, the 'Paris of Siberia', where we disembark to stretch our legs. From here you will drive to the nearby lakeside village of Listvyanka, where you will spend the next two nights. This is a popular summer resort for locals and the perfect spot to pause and relax.
Day 10: Lake Baikal

Today we will enjoy our time in Listvyanka on the shores of the world’s deepest freshwater lake, Baikal. Quite possibly Russia’s most breathtaking natural landmark, it holds four world records as the largest, deepest, clearest and oldest lake on Earth. It’s no surprise this transformative triumph of nature is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Here we have time to explore the village with its traditional houses, Limnological Museum and spectacular landscapes.
Day 11: Irkutsk
Location: Irkutsk
Almost in the center of Asia, Irkutsk is home to beautiful 18th century churches, brightly painted shutters, log houses decorated with intricate wooden lacework as well as a captivating story of high society exile. On a walking tour you can discover the city’s wonderful historic sights and a visit to the Local History Museum.
Day 12: Aboard The Trans Mongolian Railway
Location: Train - Irkutsk to Ulaanbaatar
It is time to re-board our train south and across the frontier into Mongolia.
Day 13: Arrive Ulaanbaatar And To Terelj National Park
Location: Terelj National Park
The Land of the Blue Sky always delights, from the hospitality of the nomads to the expansive landscapes, your experience will be no different.
We visit the Zaisan Memorial from which the entire city is visible, as well as the country’s largest remaining monastery, Gaandan Khiid, where you can mingle with Buddhist monks.
Then we travel out across the grasslands, through the countryside that was once the home to Genghis Khan and his Golden Horde, to the pristine Terelj National Park for a two night stay in a ger - the traditional home of the Mongolian people.
Day 14: Terelj National Park
Location: Terelj National Park
Now is your opportunity to live like a nomad in Terelj National Park. Here you spend a couple of days learning the ways of the nomads, their skills in animal husbandry and in creating culinary delights from mare’s milk, sheep’s cheese and other tasty morsels. It’s all worth trying! Walking through the grasslands you can see interesting rock formations as well as one of the last remaining Buddhist temples nestled in the hills.
Day 15: Terelj National Park And Return To Ulaanbaatar
Location: Ulaanbaatar
Leaving the verdant steppe, return to Ulaanbaatar for some more city exploring, stopping en route at the mammoth statue of Mongolia’s National hero – Genghis Khan. Standing at forty metres high and made from two hundred and fifty tonnes of shiny stainless steel you certainly won’t miss it!
Day 16: Bus To Ulan Ude
Location: Ulan Ude
We continue to Buryatia and Ulan Ude, the centre of Buddhism in Russia, evoking a relaxed and peaceful city vibe.
You’ll know you’ve reached the city centre when you come face to face with Lenin or at least a 25-foot bronze statue of his head.
Day 17: Ulan Ude And Trans Siberian Railway
Location: Train - Ulan Ude to Vladivostok
You will have the privilege of observing monks going about their daily lives at Ivolginsky Datsan, the most important centre of Buddhism in Russia.
Make your way to Lenin Street, known by locals as Arbat Street, as it resembles Moscow's historic street lined with beautiful 17th - 19th century architecture. This is a great spot to meet the locals and experience day-to-day life in Ulan Ude.
This afternoon we board our train for the final leg of the Trans Siberian towards Vladivostok.
Day 18: Trans Siberian Railway
Location: Train - Ulan Ude to Vladivostok
Make up your bed with the sheets provided by your provodista and settle in for the night, drifting off to sleep with the rocking and rolling of the train gliding over the tracks.
Day 19: Trans Siberian Railway
Location: Train - Ulan Ude to Vladivostok
Our train rumbles across the remaining miles of the Trans Siberian towards Vladivostok. As our train draws towards the terminus we reflect on completing one of the world’s longest and greatest train journeys.
Day 20: Arrive Vladivostok
Location: Vladivostok
Once forbidden to foreigners the city is now welcoming and revitalised and waiting to share its historical secrets. We spend the afternoon discovering the fascinating history of the city and port with a visit to the Local History Museum and the Vladivostok Fortress Museum.
Day 21: Vladivostok - Journey Concludes
We spend our last morning of this epic journey exploring Vladivostok`s must-see sights before we say farewell to our fellow travelers and our journey comes to an end.
