Tour Overview

All roads lead to Rome... They wind toward the Eternal City from Venice, labyrinthine city of art, romance, and palazzo-lined waterways... or to Florence, hip center of fashion, finance and culture, where Gucci, da Vinci, the Renaissance, and gold currency were born... They are the backroads that embark on a sojourn through the vineyards of Tuscany, sampling wine and local cuisine... They arrive at the hub of the Ancient World, in the heart of the modern metropolis, close to the Colosseum, the Appian Way and the Vatican, to discover the glories of Rome... And in today’s modern Italy, the roads are joined by high-speed rail that closes the distance and makes the most of your time... a journey of timeless pleasures First Class train rides from Venice to Florence and Rome reveal Italy’s history in just one week... scripted in golden mosaics inside St. Mark’s Basilica... etched into art in the Uffizi... poured in Tuscan wines aged in a 4th-century abbey cellar... sculpted in the arched walls of the Roman Colosseum, still echoing ancient roars... and frescoed with astonishing splendor in the Vatican Museums. Take a walking tour of Venice with a local guide introducing St. Mark’s Basilica and the 14th-century Doge’s Palace. Meet Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli and other Renaissance artists at the Uffizi Gallery during a private after-hours visit. Attend a wine-pairing lunch, with a taste of locally produced olive oil and cellar-aged Sangiovese wines. In Rome, go to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel after hours – no lines, no waiting...

Day 1: Arrive Venice, City Of Canals
Location: Venice, Italy
Accommodation Name: Baglioni Hotel Luna
Meals Included: Dinner

Tour begins: 6:00 PM, Baglioni Hotel Luna. Welcome to Venice! Arrive at the Baglioni Hotel Luna, a five-star luxury hotel in the heart of the city, with its own private jetty. Once an aristocratic palace, its splendidly appointed rooms, marbled floors and frescoed ceilings retain the elegance of a bygone era. You are only steps away from Piazza San Marco and close to the city's most famous landmarks. Tonight, join us for a welcome reception and dinner at Antico Martini, one of Venice's top restaurants, in an intimate, picture-perfect setting opposite the La Fenice opera house.

Day 2: Iconic St. Mark's & Doge's Palace
Location: Venice, Italy
Accommodation Name: Baglioni Hotel Luna
Meals Included: Breakfast

Eccentric, romantic, and innovative, Venice defies the tides of history. Its famous canals, once a defense against barbarian armies, belie its vulnerability and uniqueness as a timeless city on the edge, teeming with art and restless energy. You can feel that ancient energy on a guided walking tour of St. Mark's Basilica, adorned with domes, columns and spires, its gilded, soaring walls and ceilings profusely decorated with Byzantine mosaics and relics. Aural art has a history here too: antiphonal music was born in the basilica's peculiar design and perfect acoustics. No less inspiring is the adjacent Doge's Palace, a mass of pink marble that seems to float on tiers of Gothic arcades. Once the seat of power in the Venetian empire, the palace is now a museum of art treasures and a work of art itself in every intricate detail. Experience Venice up close and in style on a gondola ride through its maze of water lanes. Dine as you please this evening and explore the city's vibrant contemporary culture in its fine restaurants, shops and galleries.

Day 3: Inside The Galleria Dell'accademia
Location: Florence, Italy
Accommodation Name: Hotel Bernini Palace
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Travel to Florence by high-speed rail, First Class. A transfer is included from Santa Maria Novella Train Station to your stylish hotel in the center of the city, just a short walk to Galleria degli Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria as well as popular streets like Via Tornabuoni. Upon arrival, a private talk by an art historian sets the stage for your exploration of the "birthplace of the Renaissance." After lunch at the hotel, take a walking tour of Florence's historic center, followed by a guided visit to the fabulous Galleria dell’Accademia, home to artistic treasures such as Michelangelo’s David. You have a choice of an included dinner at a local restaurant tonight or tomorrow night, with wine included. Buon appetito!

Day 4: Inside The Uffizi Gallery
Location: Florence, Italy
Accommodation Name: Hotel Bernini Palace
Meals Included: Breakfast

The city of Florence and its contemporary culture is yours to explore as you wish today. Besides Michelangelo and Botticelli, Florence is also the home of Gucci and Ferragamo, and a wealth of shops and galleries on the edge of modern culture. This evening, join us for an after-hours private visit of the Uffizi ("the offices") conceived in 1581 as a massive government facility, was converted ten years later to a public museum which today holds some of the most important artworks of all time. Your guided visit to this remarkable institution, with its 45 exhibition halls and thousands of masterpieces, it is an art immersion unlikely to be experienced anywhere else.

Day 5: A Day Of Wine & Olive Oil Tasting
Location: Florence, Italy
Accommodation Name: Hotel Bernini Palace
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Drive outside the city of Florence and through the Tuscan countryside for a Tauck Exclusive at the ancient monastery of Badia de Passignano in the Chianti Classico region, where the monks are known for their love of learning (Galileo taught here in 1587) and their cultivation of grapes. Tour the wine cellar with a sommelier, sample its famous Chiantis, and have lunch at Osteria di Passignano... a celebration of traditional Tuscan cuisine paired with some of the famous wines produced in surrounding vineyards... followed by a little extra-virgin olive oil tasting with the chef. Return to Florence to relax or explore as you please, enjoying dinner on your own.

Day 6: The Glories Of Imperial Rome
Location: Rome, Italy
Accommodation Name: Regina Hotel Baglioni
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A First Class high-speed rail journey whisks you from Florence to Rome and the Regina Baglioni, in the heart of the city. Your five-star hotel on the Via Veneto is an Art Deco masterpiece that has entertained poets and princes, in easy reach of the Villa Borghese gardens, the Trevi Fountain, and the most stylish boutiques and restaurants. Lunch is at a local restaurant before a tour of the Eternal City where monumental art is part of everyday life. Enjoy a guided visit at the Colosseum, the iconic symbol of Rome, and its most breathtaking feat of Roman engineering; its empty shell still resonates with its history of gladiator contests, mock battles, and violent spectacles. From a high vantage point, view the imposing remains of the great Forum, once the hub of the ancient city, where Romans gathered by the thousands for political, judicial, and religious events. Our special visit to the Vatican is scheduled for tomorrow night – which means our farewell cocktail reception and dinner is this evening.

Day 7: After-Hours In The Sistine Chapel
Location: Rome, Italy
Accommodation Name: Regina Hotel Baglioni
Meals Included: Breakfast

With your local guide, you'll stand in awe of Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, on a vast piazza surrounded by colonnades. The great dome, designed by Michelangelo, is one of the largest in the world; it houses a soaring ornate cathedral, the tombs of popes since Early Christian times, and galleries of ancient masterpieces, including Michelangelo's Pieta. After your visit, head back to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure, then return this evening when the crowds are gone for a Tauck Exclusive – an after-hours tour of the Vatican and its museums – unparalleled repositories of relics, archaeological treasures, paintings, sculptures, maps, and tapestries collected over centuries – and the magnificent Sistine Chapel (subject to availability and day of tour may vary). Outside the galleries, Vatican City is illuminated against the night sky – and your visit is one that you won't soon forget.

Day 8: Journey Home
Location: Rome, Italy
Meals Included: Breakfast

Tour ends: Rome. Fly home anytime. A transfer is included from the Regina Hotel Baglioni to Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino. Allow 3 hours for check-in.

In love with Italy

31-Jul-2015

From the moment we left, we missed the wonderful sights, the tremendous food, the kind people, the rich history and fabulous shopping that we experienced during our Venice, Florence, Rome trip. Giorgio is such a strong contributor to the wonderful experience that we had. He got to know us, gave us just the right amount of information. Too many to count...Cistine Chapel, being in St. Mark's square at sunrise, beautiful hotels, a room in Venice that opened onto a canal, watching the sun set over Florence.

Venice, Florence and Rome

07-Oct-2015

Great trip! So much to see, and Tauck made it possible. Wonderful hotel locations, entry to the must-see sights in each city, entertaining local guides and a fabulous Tauck tour guide. Bring your athletic shoes because this is an active tour, but get ready to be amazed. It would be hard to duplicate this experience on your own. Hard to choose. Top 3: winery visit and wine-paired meal in Tuscany, private tour of Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, 4-course meal with wines to match in Florence. Honorable mention: the best ever gelateria in Florence recommended by our Tauck guide

Fantastico

27-Sep-2016

My title of review says it all Fantastic! This was our first trip with Tauck and first trip to Italy. It was all to us just wonderful. But I believe what made it extra special was our Tour Director and host, [Employee Name]. Venice,Florence,Rome were all wonderful, it was amazing for us. Bravo Tauck. It was all very memorable. We were fortunate to have the musicians on the Gondola ride, that was wonderful. Of course seeing David, the Vatican, Sistine Chapel at night. The amazing meal at the winery in Tuscany. All the wonderful food, even the water taxi rides were fun! Everything was memorable. Great restaurants recommended by our tour guide

A Week in Venice, Florence and Rome

20-Jun-2016

This was the best trip I have ever taken! I am a solo traveler and have travel on my own and with Tauck before. The tour, hotels, travel arrangements were outstanding. I loved everything about Venice! We were lucky and had amazing weather. The tour of the winery while we were in Florence.

Best trip ever!!!

20-Nov-2017

My husband and I had the time of our lives, from the day we arrived in Venice until the day we departed Rome. Our Tauck Director was absolutely incredible, Tauck is first class all the way. The people in our group were acquaintances when we arrived and friends when we departed. The memories will stay with us for a lifetime. Our entire trip was memorable, however our most memorable moment was walking into St Peter's Basilica and the feeling of awe that washes over you!!!! Definitely something we will NEVER forget!!!

Fantastic vacation!!

05-Oct-2015

This was our very first Tauck tour and it exceeded our expectations!! In large part, this was due to our tour guide. He provided spot-on recommendations for walking tours, restaurants, shopping and where to find the best gelato in each city!! He didn't miss a beat and we loved every minute of our trip. We booked a private car with another couple and saw Rome by night for 90 minutes. It was not cost-prohibitive at all ($30 per person, which included tip) and the sights at night bathed in light were amazing. Also, visiting the Coliseum was breathtaking. All of the local tour guides were terrific!!

Venice Florence and Rome culturious tour

31-May-2016

Overall we enjoyed our trip very much. Well organized , efficient . Few comments 1. too many in the group (36) 2. Director seemed to be stressed out and at times and would react less diplomatically. However she was very efficient in recovering our contents of safe 3.Local guide was not mindful of the large group and we got lost in st. Peters church Lunch at the Antinory winery in Tuscany

venice, florence, rome

08-Jun-2015

Bad start. Woman who met us in Venice left us and luggage standing in the rain to get water taxi. But when our guide took charge everything went smoothly. Hotels in Venice and Rome were excellent; wonderful locations. Tours, food, advice about free time, etc. could not have been better.Great fun! Sistine Chapel after hours was special Putting roses on the graves of American soldiers in American Cemetery in Florence.

7 Day Venice Florence Rome

09-Oct-2018

The tour was ok. The group was too large (39 people) to maneuver through these big cities and folks ability to walk and keep up was extremely varied and frustrating. Tauck also advertised first class tickets between cities but was unable to secure enough tickets for the train ride forcing 3 couples to sit in coach despite paying the same amount. The tour of the Colosseum and the Vatican - both were spectacular.
