Day 1: Arrive Brussels / Embark Riverboat
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Accommodation Name: ms Esprit
Meals Included: Dinner

Tour begins: 5:30 PM, Brussels. A transfer is included from Brussels Airport directly to your riverboat, where embarkation begins at 4:00 PM. Settle in aboard ship and then meet your fellow river cruisers this evening at a welcome cocktail reception followed by dinner.

Day 2: Exploring Brussels
Location: Antwerp, Belgium
Accommodation Name: ms Esprit
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Morning guided sightseeing today in Brussels, Belgium’s capital and a key center of European trade and culture since the 13th century, begins with a city tour that takes in the Atomium, a 338-foot-tall structure resembling atoms, built for the 1958 World’s Fair and winds up at Grand-Place, one of Europe’s loveliest city squares, boasting a Gothic town hall surrounded by Renaissance-era guildhalls. Return to the riverboat for lunch; this afternoon, you might choose to participate in a demonstration by a local chocolatier. Then, cruise to Antwerp this evening.

Day 3: Discover Antwerp's Specialties
Location: Antwerp, Belgium
Accommodation Name: ms Esprit
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Antwerp is Belgium’s second largest city, the capital of the province of Flanders, also known as the Low Countries, where Dutch is the official language. Go on an orientation tour of the city and take a guided walk through the historic center. As you stroll along the cobbled streets, hearing stories and insights from your local guide, discover Grote Markt, the old market square... the lavishly decorated Flemish Renaissance City Hall... and numerous restored merchants’ houses, harkening back to the days of the 16th-century Age of Exploration when Antwerp – at the time a powerful center of international commerce – was the richest city in Europe. Later, you'll have a choice between a visit to the Red Star Line Museum – whose interactive exhibits in the former warehouses of the Red Star Line shipping company tell the story of the more than two million immigrants from all over Europe, whose long journey to a new life in North America began right here in Antwerp. Or join us for a tour and tasting at a local brewery. After lunch aboard ship, you'll have some free time to explore more of Antwerp before the riverboat sets off for Ghent this evening.

Day 4: Flemish Treasures In Ghent & Bruges
Location: Ghent, Belgium
Accommodation Name: ms Esprit
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Cruising through Flanders overnight, your ship arrives this morning in the historic city of Ghent, arguably Belgium’s most beautiful city, for an Old Town walking tour; the pedestrian-friendly cobblestoned town center feels like an outdoor museum of early Flemish architecture. Think about climbing to the top of the 14th-century belfry, crowned with a dragon, for the view – Ghent laid out before you is a visual feast of castles, churches, and historic merchants’ houses. Be sure to try the local speciality, Ghent noses, a traditional raspberry candy sold at stands on the street – or a warm waffle with sugar or honey. Continue on to Bruges, known to many as “the Venice of the North,” for its canals and tiny medieval streets; have lunch in town. On your walking tour in cobblestoned, fairy tale-like Bruges, you’ll feel like you’ve walked into a painting by Jan Van Eyck, who captured life in the city during its heyday in the 15th century. The hike up the stairs of the medieval belltower is well worth the effort; you’ll be rewarded with wonderful panoramic views. Return to the riverboat for the chef’s Signature Dinner tonight, as the ship charts a course for Dordrecht in the Netherlands.

Day 5: Dordrecht, Kinderdijk’S Windmills & The Hague
Location: Rotterdam Netherlands
Accommodation Name: ms Esprit
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today you’ll dock in Dordrecht, a historic island city bordering no less than five rivers in the South Holland province of The Netherlands. Reflecting the definition of the Dutch word for harbor – "haven" – the city's charming harbor district preserves many historic warehouses, merchants’ mansions and quays, and its role as a major port city from the 15th to 18th centuries. A walking tour reveals Dordrecht’s notable architecture and monuments in its medieval inner city, as well as the surrounding ring of 19th-century buildings. Have lunch aboard the riverboat; then you’re off to the nearby village of Kinderdijk, where 19 original 18th-century windmills – preserved today as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – create an iconic polderscape that’s better than any picture-postcard, which you’ll enjoy on a boat cruise. There's no other place in the world besides Kinderdijk where can you see so many historic windmills together in an authentic setting. During your visit, discover how a windmill works both inside and out, and explore the quintessentially Dutch history of windmills. Alternatively, you can choose a bicycling excursion amidst the Kinderdijk windmills. Return to the ship and sail to Rotterdam, where you’ll disembark and drive to The Hague (the royal city of Den Haag to the Dutch), for a sparkling Tauck Exclusive evening featuring dinner, live music and a tour showcasing Dutch Golden Age paintings at the Mauritshuis, a renowned art museum housed in a historic 17th-century building.

Day 6: Magical Keukenhof Gardens
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Accommodation Name: ms Esprit
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Wake up in Utrecht this morning for a flower-filled visit to Keukenhof Gardens in nearby Lisse, where you will discover “the most beautiful spring garden in the world.” A rolling carpet of color, Keukenhof is one of Europe’s most iconic – and fragrant – places to witness springtime in all its glory. For eight springtime weeks every year, more than seven million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths blanket the 80-acre landscape with color and fragrance unequaled anywhere. Spend the morning here and have lunch. Cruise on to Amsterdam later this evening.

Day 7: Amazing Amsterdam
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Accommodation Name: ms Esprit
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Awaken on your riverboat today in Amsterdam – a vibrant blend of the historic and the contemporary, from its medieval core to the bustling shops, cafés and rich cosmopolitan life of a 21st-century European metropolis. After breakfast aboard ship, begin your exploration of this nearly car-free city of flower-rimmed canals, gracious gabled mansions, and people on bikes with a canal boat cruise through the network of 17th-century canals at the core of the old city, that offers a refreshing perspective of the Netherlands' capital city. As you'll discover, Amsterdam boasts more canals than Venice... and, as it happens, more museums per kilometer than any other European capital. One of the most famous is the matchless Rijksmuseum – filled with myriad works by the Dutch Masters, including Rembrandt’s The Night Watch and Vermeer’s The Milkmaid – which, after lunch aboard ship, you'll visit this afternoon with a local guide. Spend the rest of the afternoon as you please before returning to your riverboat for your final evening afloat, which includes a performance by a shanty choir (and some Dutch treats) and a farewell reception and toast, followed by dinner and more onboard musical entertainment.

Day 8: Journey Home
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Accommodation Name: ms Esprit
Meals Included: Breakfast

Tour ends: Amsterdam. After disembarking and bidding captain and crew adieu this morning, a transfer is included from the riverboat to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport or Centraal Train Station; all guests must disembark the ship by 9:00 AM. Fly home anytime; allow 3 hours for departure flight check-in at the airport.

Tulips and Windmills, April 9th-17th, 2017

25-Apr-2017

Hello Tauck,Another superior experience with Tauck. This was our first river cruise w/you folks. Like your land tours..Outstanding! Your guide was outstanding along w/her assistant. What makes you a success over your competition: You give us the Best Hotels, Knowledgeable guides, beautiful coaches, great venues to visit.MuchThanks There were many. Hard to single out, but the last day, was the tulips and windmills. This had to be up @ the top. Also, lunch in the caves... again a Tauck signature. One item to recommend: Out a night light underneath your sinks in the bathrooms. Will help give some degree of lighting to your guests. Also, a coffee maker in each room.

Fabulous trip!

28-Apr-2017

This trip was the BEST I could have ever hoped for. The tour guides were ALL so wonderful and knowledgeable and the crew on the boat was the absolute best you could ever want. Tauck provided 5-star service from beginning to end and I can't imagine using any other tour company. I learned so much about the history and culture that I never knew. There were many memorable moments, but perhaps one of the most memorable for me was the visit to the WWII cemetery in Mastricht. The gentleman working there did a terrific job of reviewing the history behind the cemetery and what happened in that region during the war. I felt very moved as I listened and will never forget that day.

Wow Trip

08-May-2017

This was a WOW trip. The ship and staff were outstanding. They really pamper you. The tour directors were so organized, helpful, and friendly. The cruise director did a great job too. Even when we were delayed 4 hours by a broken lock, the tour directors adjusted the tours and schedule and we were able to see everything scheduled for the day. Our most memorable moment was the flowers at Keukenhof gardens. It was like walking through a fairy tale.

Tauck Scores Again!

08-May-2017

I've just returned from my third adventure with Tauck, the Holland/Belgium Northbound River Cruise and truly want to thank Tauck for yet another memorable experience. The staff of the Esprit was truly terrific..high marks to them! Every detail was managed beautifully by the Tauck team as well. Very smooth, very efficient. QUALITY all the way. No doubt many have said the same, but it is none the less true for me...Keukenhof Gardens. FANTASTIC! It was the primary reason my friends and I took this trip and it turned out to be better than I'd imagined. Kudos for Tauck for getting us in...and out again before the real crowds showed up!

Exquisite River Cruise

01-Jun-2017

This was my first river cruise and my first tour with Tauk and it certainly did not disappoint. My mom and I took a springtime cruise to Holland and Belgium. The accommodations, food and service were top notch and the itinerary was well planned. There was lots to do, but also plenty of opportunities to relax. It was a great mix. The highlight of the trip was definitely visiting Keukenhof Gardens. The tulip displays were simply stunning.

Lovely towns from Belgium to the Netherlands

27-May-2015

Loved the accommodations aboard Swiss Jewel. There were many tours with excellent guides; I wanted to move to any one of the charming towns. Fascinated by the Delta Works, Arnhem and the battle there, the Delft factory, the Vermeer House, the inside of a working windmill, and of course the beautiful gardens at Keukenhof. Much to do in Amsterdam. I'm a real Vermeer fan. Loved seeing several originals throughout the trip. While it didn't have any originals, the Vermeer House in Delft had copies of all and explained various aspects in great detail. (Don't miss the top floor.) Saw each painting in a whole new light after that. Of course, the Rijksmuseum was absolutely stunning.

Tulip time

09-May-2017

Perfect time for Spring blooms! Tauck did an outstanding job of finding interesting places for us to see. Cruise director Tea and our 3 tour directors were fabulous. Food and service on board were unsurpassed. I recommend this highly.

Tulip time

15-May-2017

We pictured our trip as floating down the rivers and canals and seeing the fields of tulips pictured in the brochure. However, we never saw any tulips until the final day of the trip. We were bussed to most of the cities and towns that we visited, with one exception when we docked and actually WALKED into the charming town. Keukenhof Gardens was worth the wait.

Tulips , tulips & more tulips...never enough!

11-May-2017

1.Not what I expected concerning a"view"from the riverboat...glad I didn't pay for a suite on #3 deck. 2.The French Dinner was a disappointment. My fish was fatty & over cooked, the setting was lovely & it was quiet and well served. 3. The first morning there was a mix up at breakfast as the tall lady young didn't seem to know what she was doing. VISITING THE TULIP GARDENS!!! We stayed 5 hrs. & was not disappointed...I would suggest not going on a Sunday but staying until 1:30. It became very crowded after 1 pm. Not the gardens but the bathroom lines and the bus lines back to the airport. Too much time on the bus.

Awesome experience!

24-Apr-2017

I loved Belgium and the Netherlands in Spring. The itinerary was perfect: 3 medieval towns followed by windmills and tulips. While Keukenhof Garden was the high point of the trip, every stop provided breathtaking scenery. Be aware that this journey is exhausting if you decide you really want to see EVERYTHING--and I did! Keukenhof Garden, of course. I think everyone on the boat booked to have the experience of seeing what's probably the most beautiful spring garden in the world.
