Tour Overview

Explore five National Parks – from the inside, out... craggy peaks, buffalo jumps, stunt-riding cowboys and vintage “Jammer” buses set the tone throughout the timberlands of the Canadian Rockies and Montana’s Glacier National Park... Kootenay’s canyons and hot springs... alpine vistas and glaciers along the Icefields Parkway... a cruise on ice-blue mountain lakes... a ride in an Ice Explorer on Athabasca Glacier... luxury mountain resorts in Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and at Lake Louise... and so much more.  Kick up your heels at a Wild West welcome dinner where cowboy stunt riders and Calgary fiddlers raise the bar in uplifting live entertainment. See the vertical drop that spelled doom for buffalo being hunted by the Blackfoot people for some 5,500 years and enjoy soul-stirring views of an alpine lake in Glacier National Park. Red "Jammers" have been the mode of choice for travelers “going-to-the-sun” since the 1930s, the timberlands lead the way to the mountains, canyons and hot springs of Kootenay, scenic landscapes provide a natural high on a drive along Icefields Parkway and wilderness resorts from Lake Louise to Jasper and Banff national parks ensure the “peak” of awe-inspiring discoveries.

Day 1: Arrive Calgary

Location: Calgary, Canada

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Palliser

Meals Included: Dinner

Tour begins: 5:00 PM, The Fairmont Palliser. A transfer is included from Calgary Airport to The Fairmont Palliser. Meet your Tauck Director and travel companions tonight at a private, after-hours Wild West welcome reception and dinner at the Heritage Park Museum, featuring cowboy stunts and Calgary fiddlers.

Day 2: Waterton Lakes & Glacier National Parks

Location: Glacier National Park, Montana

Accommodation Name: Many Glacier Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Kick off your Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park tour by traveling south to Canada's Waterton Lakes National Park, where the prairie abruptly hits the mountains. En route, visit Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, a prehistoric site used continuously by First Nations peoples for over 5,500 years, and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site; visit its interpretive center. Continue to Waterton Lakes, where you'll have lunch at the celebrated Prince of Wales Hotel. Then cross the border to Montana's Glacier National Park, which in 1932 was joined with Waterton Lakes to form the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park – a world first; it's now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve, where you might see grizzly or black bears. Your rustic accommodations in a historic lakeside hotel built in 1915 are the best available within Glacier National Park.

Day 3: Going-To-The-Sun Road

Location: Glacier National Park, Montana

Accommodation Name: Lake McDonald Lodge

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Take a private morning lake cruise to admire the reflection of snow-capped peaks on the water's surface in an area that's been called the "Switzerland of North America." Conditions permitting, in Glacier National Park tour the Going-to-the-Sun Road aboard a restored 1930s-vintage red touring bus; the road, a 50-mile-long engineering marvel, skirts the shores of St. Mary's Lake, and crosses the Continental Divide over Logan Pass. View many of the park’s mountains and glaciers on your way to Lake McDonald, the largest lake in Glacier National Park.

Day 4: Kootenay National Park To Lake Louise

Location: Banff National Park, Canada

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Conclude your Glacier National Park tour and head into the timberlands along the western slope of the Canadian Rockies to Kootenay National Park. See Radium Hot Springs, and Sinclair Canyon’s red walls. Continue on to your world-famous chateau-style hotel on the edge of emerald Lake Louise overlooking Victoria Glacier on steep, sculpted mountains in Banff National Park, for a two-night stay; your room has a lakeside view.

Day 5: The Beauty Of Moraine Lake

Location: Banff National Park, Canada

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Join our naturalist guide today for an excursion (weather permitting) to lovely Moraine Lake, one of the most photographed spots in all of Canada, nestled in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. This glacially fed lake reflects the awe-inspiring beauty that prompted explorer Walter Wilcox, who named it Moraine Lake after the moraine, or rock pile, deposited by the Wenkchemna Glacier, to write “no scene had ever given me an equal impression of inspiring solitude and rugged grandeur.” In fact, Wilcox felt that the time spent contemplating the view was the happiest half-hour of his life! Learn the secrets of great alpine photography during a lesson from a professional photographer, then soak up more of the beauty of the area during an afternoon spent just as you please at Fairmont Château Lake Louise.

Day 6: Photo Tips And The Canadian Wilderness

Location: Jasper National Park, Canada

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Today, drive along the spectacular Icefields Parkway as you make your way to Jasper National Park. Then put what you've learned into your pictures as you encounter jaw-dropping views of mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, and snowfields around every turn; watch for bears, elk, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats, especially in the spring and fall. Arrive at your lodge for a two-night stay in the heart of Jasper National Park.

Day 7: Jasper National Park... Your Way

Location: Jasper National Park, Canada

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Your tour continues with a full day at leisure in your 900-acre resort within Jasper National Park. Optional activities at your resort (available at additional charge) include horseback riding, whitewater rafting, or fishing; renting a canoe or paddleboat; taking a guided nature walk; or playing a round of golf on a top-rated course. Prior to dinner at your leisure at your choice of the hotel's restaurants this evening, enjoy a National Parks presentation followed by a wine and cheese reception hosted by a local artist in The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge's Mountain Galleries, during which you'll learn about the history of art in the Canadian Rockies.

Day 8: Icefields Parkway, A Glacier And Banff

Location: Banff, Canada

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Banff Springs

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

View Athabasca Glacier on the Columbia Icefield, the largest icecap in the Canadian Rockies, then take a memorable ride across the glacier's surface on an Ice Explorer, a specially designed vehicle. Wind your way along the Icefields Parkway to Banff National Park, the first national park in Canada; your grand hotel was built more than a century ago by the Canadian Pacific Railway to resemble a Scottish baronial castle.

Day 9: Banff National Park As You Please

Location: Banff, Canada

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Banff Springs

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Today is your day to spend the way you wish in and around Banff. There are many optional activities (available at additional cost) to choose from at your wilderness resort or in the town of Banff itself. You can ride the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, take a guided nature walk, go horseback riding, mountain biking, or canoeing on the Bow River. Play a round of golf, perhaps book an alpine aromatherapy massage at the Willow Stream Spa, ranked among the top spas in Canada, or visit the chic alpine village of Banff on your own. Conclude your Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park tour by joining us for a festive farewell reception and dinner tonight.

Reviews from Travellers on this Tour

Most enjoyable

24-Aug-2015

Had an opportunity to visit many places of unexpected beauty. A truly unique trip. Liked everything about it. Seeing glaciers and Glacier park was most enjoyable. Tauck did a good job on the tour and the arrangement. Only improvement might be to spend 2 nights at Lake Louise. This would improve the trip by having one less day of pack and unpack. Visiting Glacier Park by open bus.

Canadian Rockies

19-Sep-2016

We can't stop telling people about this fantastic trip to one of the most spectacular regions of North America. This place is so memorable we are considering a repeat. We enjoyed the way the meals were setup where we dined every evening with someone different on the tour. Boat ride and hiking around Many Glacier Hotel. The ride out to the glacier at the Columbia Ice Fields. Staring at the Canadian Rockies and our free time to roam in Banff.

Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park

31-Aug-2016

I've been traveling since 1988 & this was the best escorted trip ever. A wonderful itinerary to enjoy all the beauty of the area. Nothing was left out. And our Tauck Director was the best tour guide I have ever had. A wonderful lady with incredible knowledge and love of the Rockies. Seeing Lake Louise.

Canadian And Glacier National Park

21-Sep-2018

Our Bus driver and tour guide were outstanding. I must say all our meals, motels, and lodges were just great. The scenery was just breathtaking. Walking on a Glacier.

Canadian Rockies - July, 2017

20-Jul-2017

This was my 6th Tauck Tour and it was great! Our tour guide had a lot to do with it. She was so knowledgeable, prepared and concerned about all of her guests. Before each stop, she had a thorough list of all of the activities available and how to access them. The hotels were so convenient and the food was awesome. Beautiful scenery. On a side hike, we encountered a black bear - about 25 feet away. It was an adventure and gave us a story to tell when we got home.

Great views everyday

01-Aug-2018

First of all, our tour director was absolutely the best. What high energy, enthusiasm and caring for everyone on the trip. All hotels were great with all having either great views or great surroundings. The activities were planned well and were what we come to expect from Tauck trips. The stop from Jasper to Banff for lunch could be deleted. Head Smashed In Buffalo, Views at Lake Louise, Red Jammer tour, Athabasca Glacier, all the hotels. Lake Moraine local guide... The Best!!

The Best Thing I've Seen In North America (since I met my wife).

22-Aug-2015

I've been on many first class 'business outings' during my years in the corporate world (Pebble Beach, Vail, New York with the theater and fine dining, after hours dinners in museums and aquariums, private formula one and nascar events, etc) and the thing that they all had in common was excellent planning and execution. This was the best of ALL!!! That's a tough question. The bear on the side of the road? The moose on our first trail? The beauty of Glacier National Park? The ride in a red 'jammer'? Our first sighting of the Chateau Lake Louise? Riding the gondola in Banff National Park? Canoeing at Jasper Park Lodge? The ice fields parkway (wow)? Walking on a glacier? The food?

Tour Director Rocks!!

01-Jul-2015

Although this was our first Tauck tour, we signed on because of Tauck's reputation for high-end service, hotels, meals and itinerary and we were not disappointed. That said, ultimately, this type of vacation is all about the Tour Director and we were served the gold standard. We will travel with this Tour Director again!! A walk on the Columbia Icefield!!

Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park - August 14, 2018

10-Sep-2018

Our 12th Tauck trip. What made this journey most special for us was the tour director. He was extremely knowledgeable, caring, attentive, and made each guest feel special. His sense of humor and enthusiasm was contagious! To sum up, he exemplified a true love of his profession - daily and moment by moment. Kyaking on beautiful Lac Beauvert in Jasper. This was our favorite park and setting. The lake was crystal clear and the mountains spectacular. The staff at the hotel very accommodating and pleasant. The food was terrific as well. The Columbia Icefields at 7,000 feet were also memorable as was the Fairmont Banff Springs and Willow Stream Spa.

Stunning Canadian Rockies and Glacier, too

30-Aug-2018

We were expecting gorgeous mountain vistas on this, our 7th Tauck adventure. Due to the smoke drift from 550 fires in British Columbia, some of the mountain views were hazy. However, the information on Glaciers, crystal clear lakes, and mountain range formation and the spectacular scenery were amazing, All lodges were unique and very comfortable. Getting up at sunrise at our Many Glacier Lodge balcony to watch the beautiful reflection of the mountains on the lake and then spotting a moose come from the woods. With binoculars we were able to watch it swim across and emerge on the opposite shore. Everyday seemed to be filled with truly stunning scenery.
