Tour Overview

When you think of Italy... you evoke thoughts of leisurely cruises on picturesque lakes lined with villas against the backdrop of the Italian Alps... the Byzantine grandeur of San Marco and serenades aboard gondolas in the age-old canals of Venice... Florentine art and architecture that sing of life in the Renaissance, and a stroll in the garden where opera was born... a glass of Chianti in a sidewalk café in hilltop Siena... the haunting ruins of Imperial Rome... hand-painted frescoes whose eloquence is most poignantly experienced in the Sistine Chapel, after the day’s crowds depart... From Michelangelo's masterpieces to the glories of Ancient Rome, the art and drama of the ages inspire our journeys in Italy including Lake Como, Venice, Florence, Siena and Rome. View the inspiring treasures of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel during a special after-hours guided visit. Confirmed reservations provide an opportunity to view the original works of the masters at the Uffizi Gallery and Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence. In Venice, stay at a top award-winning hotel on a private island in the Venetian Lagoon, see St. Mark's Basilica and Square, and take a gondola ride on the canals complete with a serenade. Visit the medieval town of Siena in the Tuscan countryside. Take a high-speed train ride to Florence.  And of course, you'll also have ample time to pursue what interests you most in Venice, Florence, and Rome...

Noted for its exquisite landscaping and sculpture, the villa features spectacular terraced gardens ablaze with magnolias, cypresses, azaleas and more against dramatic views of the distant Alps and the famous shore of Lake Como, and appeared as a location in the James Bond film Casino Royale and in Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones. Journey across northern Italy from the lakes to Venice, among the world's best-loved cities, designed along an intricate system of canals within a lagoon. Upon arrival, head to St. Mark's Square, the heart of Venice, for lunch at a local restaurant, followed by an iconic, must-do Venetian experience – gliding through the city's historic canals aboard a gondola as local musicians serenade you with traditional Italian songs. Then transfer by private boat to your home for the next two nights in Venice – the San Clemente Palace Kempinski Venice, named the #1 hotel in Venice as the winner of Condé Nast Traveler's "Top Hotels in Italy/Venice" Reader's Choice Award! Your art lecture is a fitting prelude to today's visit to Galleria dell'Accademia, Europe's oldest art school and home to many of the world's most beloved paintings and sculpture, including Michelangelo's famed statue of David. You'll be introduced to masterpiece works by Botticelli, Michelangelo, Raphael, Lippi, Leonardo da Vinci, and many more Renaissance masters; you have time to study, and contemplate, without the day crowds.

Day 7: Through Tuscany & Umbria Via Siena To Rome

Location: Siena, Italy

See the Piazza del Campo where the Palio bareback horse race is held, and visit the Duomo, one of Italy's great cathedrals, with scenes inlaid in the marble floors and sculpture by Michelangelo. Continue through scenic Umbria and Lazio to your final destination – Rome, the Eternal City that was the center of the once-powerful Roman Empire, and is today the capital of modern Italy – for a three-night stay at one of Europe's finest hotels. An after-hours guided visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel (subject to availability; day and time of the visit may vary) gives you privileged access to the treasures of the Vatican, without the day's crowds. See the Candelabra Gallery, Map Gallery and the Tapestries; it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of the world's great masterpieces, including Michelangelo's famous Sistine Chapel ceiling frescoes, without the usual crowds. Up close and unhurried, you'll have a chance to see firsthand why the chapel's floor is as famous as its celebrated ceiling!

Reviews from Travellers on this Tour

They Had Us At Ciao!

26-Jun-2015

35th anniversary vacation. Wish we would have know of Tauck on our 25th or 30th. Tauck people are great. From our original customer service rep. to our main tour guide and everyone in between. Breathtaking scenery, 5 star hotels, food to die for, and a great daily plan made our trip memorable. We will be back with Tauck. Too many for just one. Florence, Sienna, military cemetery, and the Sistine Chapel. WOW!

First Tauck Tour

13-Jul-2017

Never a wasted moment! Well planned, didn't feel processed. Hit all the big tourist spots with no hassle, dined in small restaurants and had plenty of free time to explore on our own. Educational and fun. Loved our main guide! The after hours tour of the Sistine Chapel was incredible. The local guide was so passionate and knowledgeable about Italian art and history. Very moving!

Fantastic Trip

04-Jan-2016

This tour will be a trip of a lifetime. It is fast-paced and lively. Our tour director was very organized and always helpful. Not to mention fun! All the hotels we stayed at were top-notch, even given American standards. Would recommend to anyone! Seeing the sun come up in Venice, Sistine Chapel tour, lunch on the island of Lake Como. Too many to report!

Everything went as smooth as silk

08-Jun-2016

A fantastic trip to Bellagio, Venice, Florence, Sienna and Rome. Every detail was taken care of. Each first class hotel was perfectly situated for the city and the planned meals were superb and typical of each location. Our tour director was well informed, organized, generous and enthusiastic. She enriched our Italian experience. We loved Sienna, even though it rained almost the entire time we were there. Our guide for St. Peter's and the private Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel tour was very knowledgeable and had the driest most subtle humor I have ever heard. A delight.

Amazing Trip

10-Jun-2015

This was our first trip with Tauck, and every aspect of it was great. The director was organized, thoughtful, and on top of every detail. The group was enthusiastic, on time, and so much fun.

Italian Lakes, Venice, Florence, Rome

09-Jun-2015

We loved everything about the trip. Our Tauck Director was a wonderful host. The Basicilia. A close second was getting into the Vatican museum after hours.

Bucket List Itlay

02-Jul-2015

The only thing that was missing was adding an extra day in Rome so that the group could have visited the Pantheon and the Roman Forum. I stayed an a few extra days on my own and was so glad that I did. Rome has so much history, it can only be skimmed in three short days. Being able to visit the Sistine Chapel in the evening with only a few other small tour groups there at the same time.

Italian lakes, Venice, Florence , & Rome

01-Jul-2015

The scenery beautiful. Hotels beautiful. Transportation prompt. The idea that you have taking a tour with a guide is that activities are planned. The planned activities worked well but we had waaaay too much free time in a foreign country that we had to plan and pay for our own sightseeing and entertainment. Tauck charges too much for this problem Sistene chapel, Vatican, St Marks

Tauck Time in Italy

21-May-2017

GREAT: Tour guide, hotel rooms and Itinerary. BAD: Tauck is getting cheap. Tauck meals at hotels- poor; (Duck at 8.30pm first night- no other choices and the duck tasted old" Many Tauck meals didn't include even a glass a wine..you paid extra for it. Not the 1st class tour company of the past. READ the fine print B-4 Booking Morning tour in Venice Italy with local guide.

Italian Lakes / Italy tour

16-May-2017

The guide was great, the best guide I've had in my 16 tauck trips. But, I am sending a personal letter to Mr. Maher to explain about the disappointing hotel meals, except for breakfast which always were excellent. The visit to the Vatican Sistine Chapel, great Italian guide.
