Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Accommodation Name: Meliá Arusha

Tour begins: Kilimanjaro International Airport. A transfer is included from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Meliá Arusha in Arusha. Your new 5-star luxury resort is located adjacent to a traditional coffee plantation. Your family's Africa safari adventure begins in the morning!

Day 2: Arusha National Park Game Drive
Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Accommodation Name: Meliá Arusha
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Adventures await on our family safari! First up this morning, join an experienced local guide on a full-day game drive in Arusha National Park (the first of many on your journey); you’ll be on the lookout for giraffes, zebra, the Cape buffalo, baboons, waterbuck, flamingos and other wildlife during your drive. Return to the hotel mid-afternoon for some time to spend as you please prior to a welcome reception and dinner – with some special surprises.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park
Location: Tarangire National Park
Accommodation Name: Tarangire Safari Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Head to Tarangire National Park today – the place where life began, according to Maasai legend, and immortalized in many movies about Africa. Marvel at the classic African savannah stretching out all around you, the wildlife-rich plains studded with baobob trees. Hop aboard our open-topped safari vehicles for an afternoon game drive; look for big cats lounging under baobab trees or elephants cooling off at a watering hole. Enjoy dinner and the evening at Tarangire Safari Lodge.

Day 4: Wildlife Viewing On Two Game Drives
Location: Tarangire National Park
Accommodation Name: Tarangire Safari Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

An up-close look at wildlife in Tarangire today begins with a morning game drive to Silale Swamp. After returning to the lodge for lunch and and some hands-on learning of Maasai crafts, head back out into the bush for an afternoon game drive and even more experiences guaranteed to create shared memories that will last lifetimes. Following dinner back at camp, learn some Swahili around the campfire, perhaps including such words as jambo (hello), kwa heri (goodbye), simba (lion) and ninafurahia (I am having a great time)!

Day 5: A Maasai Boma & On To Ngorongoro
Location: Karatu, Tanzania
Accommodation Name: Tloma Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Make your way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area today. En route, you'll stop for lunch in Lake Manyara National Park, a bird-lover's paradise; meet the students and teacher at a new primary school that Tauck helps support; and visit a Maasai boma (a traditional hut village preserving Maasai cultural customs). Arrive late afternoon at your colonial lodge in Karatu, where your cottage-style accommodations for the next two nights overlook a coffee plantation and the eastern wall of the remarkable Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 6: Game Viewing Inside An Age-Old Crater
Location: Karatu, Tanzania
Accommodation Name: Tloma Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

One of the best places on this Africa tour to spot the Big Five – elephants, leopards, lions, buffalo and the rare black rhinoceros – ancient Ngorongoro Crater, often called Africa's "Garden of Eden," is home to almost every species in Africa... except the giraffe, which can't negotiate the steep incline down into the caldera. Game drives and a unique picnic lunch on the crater floor offer ample opportunities to spot lions, cheetahs, hippos and lots of birds. Then it's back to your lodge in Karatu for the evening.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park
Location: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Accommodation Name: Meliá Serengeti Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today, you'll depart Tloma Lodge and hop a morning flight from Lake Manyara to the Seronera airstrip in Serengeti National Park. As you do, you'll fly over Oldupai Gorge, where, over 50 years ago, archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the fossilized remains of some of the earliest known human species, an estimated 1.8 million years old. Arrive late morning at the Meliá Serengeti Lodge, where you'll begin a three-night stay in the heart of the vast Serengeti plains. After lunch, embark on a late-afternoon game drive in Serengeti National Park, in search of animals that make their homes here; perhaps you’ll see lions, antelopes, elephants and zebras in their daily rituals. Return to camp for a briefing on tomorrow's hot air balloon flight across the Serengeti, followed by dinner at the lodge.

Day 8: Hot Air Ballooning Over The Serengeti
Location: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Accommodation Name: Meliá Serengeti Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Rise early for a whole new angle on the landscapes and wildlife of Serengeti National Park – an unforgettable ride over the vast Serengeti plains in a hot air balloon* – followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush and some game viewing later in the morning. After lunch at the lodge, look for zebras, hyenas, leopards and more on an afternoon game drive with your local guide. Back at your lodge tonight, enjoy a special dinner, where you'll have more stories to share.

Day 9: Farewell To The Serengeti
Location: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Accommodation Name: Meliá Serengeti Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Your lodge in the Serengeti enables you to savor the African landscape, view even more wildlife, and discover local Maasai traditions and daily life on the last full day of your family's fun-filled Africa tour.  The whole family will learn about Maasai crafts and local conservation projects, and enjoy walks with the lodge's Maasai staff. After lunch, enjoy a farewell game drive in Serengeti National Park, where you can often see wildebeest and large numbers of lions and cheetahs, as well as herds of giraffe and zebra – an unforgettable spectacle of Africa's circle of life, right before your eyes! Equally impressive are Tanzania's magical sunsets, which you'll enjoy during a farewell reception on the terrace of your lodge on your final night on safari, followed by a festive farewell dinner and some authentic Maasai fun.

Day 10: Journey Home
Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Tour ends: Kilimanjaro International Airport. Tour concludes after a flight back to the city of Arusha, a visit to the Shanga community project, and lunch at the Cultural Heritage Center. Family Safari in Tanzania

03-Nov-2017

There were three generations on the Family Safari in Tanzania: my daughter, two granddaughters (ages eleven and thirteen), and my self (grandma). Would recommend arriving a day early to acclimate to different time zone. Tauck personnel knowledgeable and offered everyone insight as to animal habitat, behavior. Was an exciting and fun trip. Seeing my daughter and granddaughters with the Maasi people. Learning a different culture. Also visiting a school where children were only permitted to speak English instead of Swahilli-a great way to learn.

Our Wizard Tour Director

03-Aug-2015

Our Tour Director, [Employee Name], used her charm and professionalism to make our Tanzania tour fabulous. We believe she was personally responsible for: 1. The 70 bird species who made themselves available. 2. An army of wildebeest and zebras that waited for our arrival prior to their formal migration. 3. Day weather patterns tailored to us 4. Eliminating both rain and excessive heat for 12 consistent African days at the equator. 5. The absence of bugs, mosquitos, and other annoying flying creatures. 6. Saving us from email and most of all - Facebook. 8. Clean vehicles well suited for winding unpaved dirt paths and animal spying. 9. Tasteful lectures on tour topics. more ...

Splendid Africa

31-Aug-2017

Difficult to start and finish. Excellent from the time we landed in Arusha and met by Tauck personnel. Our Tauck Director and his team of guides were fabulous. Knowledgeable and professional in every way. The camps/hotels were wonderful and accommodating to all our wishes. As a retired CEO, I would rate this team and itinerary to be 5 Stars! Thanks Too many to list, from the rare white baboon to the elephants drinking from the watering hole at the four seasons hotel. Our Tauck Director and the guides made every minute exciting and memorable.

A wonderful family experience

25-Aug-2016

Just returned from "Tanzania, A Grand Family Safari" and can't thank you enough. Our Tour Director was wonderful, our driver/guides on safari were absolutely the best. Loved the accommodations. Loved the families we traveled with. Wouldn't hesitate to travel with Tauck again. There were way too many memorable moments to name just one. One of the highlights was sitting on the terrace and just watching the animals come and go to the Mara River below. We were mesmerized and could have sat and stared all day. Watching a crocodile take down a zebra was also quite memorable.

More than a Vacation

29-Jun-2017

Our family of 5 just returned from this trip & we are still in awe of what we experienced. Our children have been to 20 countries in their short lives and Tanzania may be their favorite. Our tour director and drivers enhanced the trip with their knowledge and enthusiasm. The trip is well planned/organized and we saw more wildlife than expected. The breathtaking views from the balloon ride, watching elephants walk by from hotel, seeing lions walk right by our jeep, leopards mating, spotting a cheetah, sleeping in a tented room, learning amazing facts about the animals, ngorongoro crater, the cultural experience with natives and local school children, making new friends. Too many to list!

Amazing family trip.

16-Jul-2018

We love Tauck Bridges! 3 generations, great fun! We took our daughter, son in law, and 2 grandsons (12, and 15) to Tanzania. All a little nervous, long long trip from San Francisco, and our 15 year old grandson has autism. Our guide was amazing-she was relaxed and helpful and told us not to worry. She was right-we all did great. Balloon ride over the Serengeti. Such a fantastic experience for all 6 of us. It was incredible, as were the animals, trip to the Masai village, the tent hotel, and of course, The Four Seasons. It was remarkable, a life changing experience for our daughter's family, and amazing memories for all of us. Truly a trip of a lifetime.

Grand Family safari Tanzania

10-Aug-2015

This Grand family safari trip was beyond our expectations and a most wonderfully planned trip by Tauck. Our Tauck guide was so accommodating to the 6 children and 10 adults . Our 3 guides were the BEST! So happy and informative about the countries and animals. There were 7 of us in our family, 3 grandchildren. I can't pick one because every day was a HAPPY day. To see us, our 3 grandchildren ,son & daughter in law fall in love with Africa, it's people and animals was amazing. The guides were awesome. Long fun filled days that will forever be in our hearts! Accommodations, food couldn't have been better. The hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti !

Expectations Exceeded

07-Jul-2017

Amazing tour. Pace is brisk - covers a lot of territory - but allows for down time at the end. Tour manager was fabulous & kept us on track without rushing. Most activities were great - esp. making paper (fun for parents too). Terrific guides. Wonderful accommodations - each unique & added to experience, esp. the tents. Bring conditioner & lotion. The hot air balloon over the Serengeti was incredible (even for those who are afraid of heights) followed by the English breakfast. Incredible.

Bridges Tanzania Aug. 18

31-Aug-2018

Wonderful, educational trip with husband, daughter and two pre-teen grandsons. Our Tour guide and the four driver/guides were all superb. They really made the trip. Loved visiting the school and the workshop. Made us aware of just how fortunate we are to be Americans. That's hard to pinpoint. There were so many. The animals, so up close and personal. The adorable engaging children at the school. Seeing our grandsons being broadened. AND, watching an elephant totally demolish an acacia tree, thorns and all!
