Tour Overview

Our expedition is an invite to a deep dive into the heart of the Amazon rainforest. You will watch the sunrise from canoes, interact with pink river dolphins, hike through the forest, observe the Amazon sky from the middle of the river and swim in the largest freshwater basin in the world. From a cultural perspective, you will learn about the handling of manioc and the process of making flour, tucupi and tapioca. You will taste the real acai, straight from the palm tree and learn to dance carimbó. Taste sweets with Amazonian ingredients, participate in workshops of handicrafts with local seeds and cosmetics from the rainforest. Vivalá's Expeditions are held in territories that concentrate and preserve a large part of the Brazilian biodiversity, the largest in the world. With Community Based Tourism, we value the culture of traditional people and impulse their economies. Our aim is to provide experiences that are good for everyone: for the traveller, the communities and the planet.

Check out our Q&As

What kind of food will be served?

We will have many opportunities to taste local dishes, typical of the region. All our partners give preference to local products and the food is an important part of the uniqueness and immersion in the local culture that our experiences have to offer. We also take into consideration any needs regarding dietary restrictions such as vegetarians and vegans, so rest assured that we will have options

Am I contributing to any charity by booking the tour?

Vivalá is a social enterprise and more than 40% of our income goes directly into the communities economies. We have also mentored 193 businesses and entrepreneurs in the communities we carry on our expeditions and we have +7500 hours of voluntary work trough our voluntourism programmes.

Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

We have different experiences for different types of groups. Some of our destinations are better experienced in groups, like the Shanenawa Expedition, others, might be carried on in small groups and even single share, with minor change to the itineraries.

Will I have spare time?

Although we have several activities during the day, we always make sure that everyone has time to rest, reflect and interact with the surroundings. We recommend that everyone participates in all the activities with the community, but if there is a greater desire for tranquillity, just talk to Vivalá staff and we'll find a way.

Ехреditiоn Tapajos Vivalá | How is the accommodation?

Pousada and Redário Abílio e Família, in the Maguari community, inside the Tapajós National Forest. These are rooms with bathroom and two single beds or one double bed, as well as a hammock area on the exterior. A very special and simple place.

Ехреditiоn Riо Nеgrо Vivalá | How is the accommodation?

The Expedition Rio Negro is such a magical experience that the lodging is an attraction in itself. At Caboclo's House Ecolodge (@cabocloshouse), there are various living spaces, such as a deck in front of the river, from where you can watch the sunset, as well as a pool, bar and other well-decorated spaces perfect for having a good time. (https://www.instagram.com/p/CQt3uINrf2-/)

How much money should I bring?

You should bring enough money for extra meals, for the airport taxi to the hotel and vice versa, for drinks or snacks and for buying handicrafts or other typical products. Everything you buy must be paid for with cash, so remember to always have it on hand. We recommend that you bring at least R$500 in cash.

    Is any vaccination mandatory?

Yes, we require the vaccination against COVID-19 for the safety of travellers, providers and community members. However, the Yellow Fever vaccine is recommended by the Ministry of Tourism for any travel to Brazil. It must be taken at least 10 days before the departure, for it to be considered effective.

Ехреditiоn Riо Nеgrо Vivalá | How are the trails?

Trail with survival techniques in the Amazon forest. Where we will learn how and where to find the water vines, how to navigate in the jungle, where to find suitable food, how to send for help. A really interesting and informative hike.

How long has the tour company been trading?

We provide experiences in Brazilian territories since 2015. More than 1500 people, from 10 different countries have travelled with us.

Will there be WI-FI and mobile signal?

Yes, however the network oscillates a lot. One thing we can assure you is that disconnecting for a few days will be wonderful!

Expedition Tapajós Vivalá | How are the trails?

We have two trails of moderate effort in our expedition. In the first one we visit Vovó Samaúma, a giant tree, about 1,000 years old and 70 meters high. The trail is 15km long and takes around 5 hours. Then, we have another one that goes to the Igarapé of Jamaraquá, where we can take a dip at the end of the trail. It is a fantastic reward after a hike through the forest.

Reviews

One of a kind experience of nature contemplation and immersion.

You are in the middle of the forest, disconnected from the rush of everyday life, meet different people, feel the aroma, the delicious cuisine.

t is difficult to put into words everything that this trip was.

Vivalá manages to make a sustainable tourism and somehow unite people with the same purpose.

From the sale to the experience in fact, you can feel the care of employees.

You can tell that everything is done with great care, you know? It's worth taking a chance and get to know the beauty (and the stories) that Rio Negro has to offer.

And if you're thinking of going alone, go ahead! Most travellers also go alone and you create an almost instantaneous connection (seriously).

Thanks for everything, Vivalá <3

The expedition with Vivalá was a true immersion in the forest and in the lifestyle of the riverside communities.

We ate well, slept in the cosy embrace of nature and lived intense experiences, such as the workshops, trails and tours along the Rio Negro.

If you want to travel to enjoy the forest with social and environmental responsibility, make good friends and really immerse yourself in an experience that changes your outlook, this trip is for you.

Don't be shy about going alone, you will certainly be welcomed and will make friends.
