Tour Overview
Lake Bogoria is a shallow saline water lake located 25 km south of Lake Baringo. Lake Bogoria National Reserve is the home of Africa's most magnificent antelope, the greater kudu, and of other savannah wildlife. Animals include Zebra, impala, Grant's gazelle, Klipspringer, buffalo, dik dik and Patas monkey, among others. Predators include the leopard, cheetah, hyena, mongoose, jackal, and Karakul cat. Lake Bogoria National Reserve has 135 species of birds. This is in addition to more than 310 residents and 50 migratory species of birds - 374 bird species have been recorded. In the recent past, it has become the most stable home of the lesser flamingo with a population approaching two million birds. The Lake Nakuru National Park - renowned as a bird sanctuary with over 400 bird species, including huge flocks of flamingoes and many other water birds. Lake Nakuru is home to many animals such as hippo, waterbuck, warthog, impala, buffalo, Rothschild giraffe, elands, and both the endangered black and white rhino. The Masai Mara Game Reserve is Kenya's most famous and finest game sanctuary. In the months of August and September each year, the wildebeests in their troops arrive at the Kenyan border, ready to cross the steep banks of the broad and fast-flowing Mara River. This crossing is truly the greatest episode of the entire migration. Hot on their heels are the predators of the savannah - lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena, and vultures. Amboseli National Park is the home of elephants and Mount Kilimanjaro!

Today we explore Amboseli National Park, the home of elephants!
The giants here are the great herds of elephants. Hundreds of them.
Protected from poachers, they carry their massive tusks with pride as they gather at predictable watering holes, delighting the many who come to Amboseli National Park to view these noble creatures. Amboseli is known as the best place in Africa for getting up close to free-ranging elephants. The population is so robust here that sightings are guaranteed! It’s just one of many reasons the park is the second most popular in Kenya – only the Masai Mara draws more visitors.
Amboseli is also a photographer’s paradise. Those wonderful photos you’ve seen of elephants seemingly posing in front of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro? They were taken here. Kilimanjaro, the largest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain in the world, towers over the park like a stately and photogenic sentinel. And when the clouds burn off at dusk or dawn, you’ll be treated to visions of its snowy peak. But it would be foolish to think elephants are the only wildlife attraction in the park. On your game drives on Amboseli’s great horizons you can spot wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, gazelle and of course, cheetahs and lions. And not to be overlooked – smaller mammals like hyena, foxes, jackals, vervet monkey and the yellow baboon abound.
The bird life is equally rich especially in the park’s marshes and lakes. Be ready for sightings of pelicans, kingfishers, crakes, egrets and the Madagascar heron. And raptors – 47 types have been spotted including falcon and the harrier eagle.
