Favourite time of year to visit Svalbard

"Late February. This is the 'blue light' season, in which the sun begins to return (increasing as much as 1 hour per day!), which brings a day-long 'golden hour' off the blue-lit snow."

A 'MUST' whilst you're there?

"Dogsledding! If it's not already included in your tour, there are several reputable and sustainable companies that operate dogsledding tours of different lengths. It's a must-do during the winter months."

Must pack items for Svalbard

"If you're travelling in the colder months, bring very warm gloves (which can be used to operate camera equipment), beanies, neck gators/scarves, and socks. Fingers and facial features are prone to frostbite."

What do you love most about Svalbard?

"It's uniqueness and isolation. The harsh environment detracts most tourists, and there are only limited availabilities for accommodation and tours. So whatever you do, you'll get a unique experience!"

@dyl.shaw's Top Tips

"Consider what you want to see: Winter = northern lights and dogsledding. Summer = polar bear sightings and water-based tours. The seasons dictate all!"
