Tour Overview

Mount Meru is located just north of the city of Arusha, in the Arusha Region of Tanzania. It is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, after Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Meru is also the highest mountain/point in Arusha Region. The Momella route – which starts at Momella gate, on the eastern side of the mountain – is used to climb Mount Meru. Mount Meru is the topographic centerpiece of Arusha National Park. Its fertile slopes rise above the surrounding savanna and support a forest that hosts diverse wildlife, including nearly 400 species of birds, and also monkeys and leopards.

Day 1 : Kilimanjaro Airport – Moshi

Location: Kilimanjaro International Airport

Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, pick up and transfer to Panama resort garden Hotel or similar for overnight.

Day 2 : Momella Gate To Miriakamba Hut

Location: Momella Gate

Accommodation: Camp

Drive from Moshi to Momella Gate. After a short registration at the Momella Gate, our walk begins with a fully armed ranger escorting us on the hike. Along the way, you will see wild animals including buffalo, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, and often elephants. Dinner and overnight at Miriakamba Hut.

Day 3 : Miriakamba Hut To Saddle Hut

The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short day but a steep climb. The walk will take you slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. After a hot lunch at Saddle Hut, you can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820 m) for superb views just before sunset. Dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.

Day 4 : Saddle Hut To Rhino Point To Cobra Point To Summit Socialist Peak To Momella Gate To Moshi

We start early at around 1:30 am for a steep climb to Rhino Point (3,800 m) and then on to Cobra Point (4350m). We reach the summit (4,566 m) in time for sunrise. There is a possibility of seeing Mt. Kilimanjaro’s Peak above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to Momella gate. Once at the gate, it’s time to tip your porters, guide, cook, and game ranger. After that our driver will be ready and waiting to transfer you back to Panama resort garden in Moshi for refreshments, dinner, and overnight.

Day 5 : Moshi To Airport | Depart

Location: Moshi

Meals Included: Lunch

After having breakfast, enjoy your morning leisure time at the hotel, and depending on your flight schedule, get transferred to the airport to catch your departure flight back home.

Amazing group to do Kili with!

We had a great time exploring Kili with the crew at Mbega African Safari. Our guides, Edwin, emma and Rocky, were all excellent. They were fantastic people to get to know and explained everything thoroughly on the hike. Our servers, Mashrek and Rahima, were also wonderful. Mashrek, in particular, went above and beyond on multiple occasions to make our time on the mountain as comfortable and memorable as possible. I am sure he will make an outstanding guide and team leader one day. The rest of the porters and chef team were also excellent and worked hard to make sure we had a great time

Great Experience for Kilimanjaro

It was my first Kilimanjaro climb and selected the 6 days Machame route within short notice. Godfrey confirmed and arranged the trip promptly, and he was responsive to my many questions. I was taken care of by the crew throughout the trip with great service, and Gabriel as my guide looked after my welfare. He even went out of his way to bring me around Moshi town after we successfully summited and returned! Great experience for my first trip to Tanzania.
