Today will probably start off a bit slow, courtesy of our party shenanigans in Cairns last night.

For some of us, it's departure day, and we're bidding adieu with hopes that your sunscreen stays strong, your sense of humour stays top-notch, and your wanderlust keeps on burning bright!

But for the rest of us cool cats, today marks the beginning of our fantastic U. Impact! Experiences on the Great Barrier Reef Conservation project.

Around mid-morning you’ll head off to Cape York to connect with our local marine conservation crew. Today you get to make a direct positive impact on our environment.

When we talk beach clean-ups, we're talking next-level up-cycling and recycling. It's not all serious stuff (well, maybe just a bit); you'll also get the lowdown on the ugly truth about marine debris in our oceans. Spoiler alert: it's not a pretty sight. Discover the sources of this rubbish and the steps we can take to wage war on plastic.

And now it’s time to step up and contribute you time and energy and join our squad of beachcombers on a mission to rid the shores of unwanted trash.

As the day winds down, it's time to kick back, relax, and maybe lounge by the hotel pool. You've earned it – our first day has been a mix of learning and fun. Here's to that!

Included activities: U. Impact Experience Cape York

It is our greatest wish that you use this experience to share the great deeds being done by this amazing group, and why its so important we cease our plastic consumption immediately. Make ripples of awareness amongst your own communities and be part of the solution with your knew knowledge.

We thank the weather gods (hopefully) and toast the koalas and kangaroos who’ve made an appearance along the way. We wish the friendly locals and amazing hosts we’ve meet along the way, adios, and raise a glass to the coral reefs and incredible marine life who have entertained us endlessly.

  • Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

Upgrading to a single room is not always possible. There will be a cost difference and we have to apply to the accommodation providers for the specific dates of the trip departure you'd like to join - so let us know early and we can see what we can do! This goes for the twin share / double upgrade too!

  • Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?

    U. are fiercely proud to offer multinational trips. This means that you have the wonderfull opportunity to meet people from a full range of nationalities and make friendships which transcend borders. The average age sits between 18 and 28 normally, but our trips are open to all over 18 who have a young at heart mind.

  • Can I join the tour once it has departed?

Logistically, yes! The cost is the same, and connecting with your group has to be done in the evenings at the accommodation as we cannot pick people up We have to charge you for the full tour though as we can't sell that place to someone else - the cost

  • Am I contributing to any charity by booking the tour?

    U. leads in the space of Responsible Tourism. Every part of your

  • What policies are in place for Covid-19?

Primarily we work on a preventative strategy. All our travellers are required to have comprehensive travel insurance which has a Covid repatriation and tour cancellation cover in place. Should we be informed of impending closures due to Covid whilst you are travelling, we will do everything we can to ensure your safety and help you home. Your first stop should always be to your insurance provider as they will be coordinating the movement of many travellers and may have exit plans in place.

  • What documents will I receive before I travel?

As a U.Traveller, you'll get our full 'ICU' service (Intensive Care Unit). Between booking and paying your deposit, to your departure date, we'll be sending you your specific travel documents, and a series of helpful pdf's to help you prepare for your departure and make the most of your travel experience. We are also available for a call or online meeting for any of those last minute questions!

  • How long has the tour company been trading?

We've been trading proudly since 2019! We are a NZ company with online representation in the northern hemisphere. Our founders have been at the forefront of tourism for over 30 years though, and bring a vast amount of knowledge to the business.

  • What happens if I need to change my holiday date once I’ve booked?

First of all, let's refer you to our terms and conditions on our web site. You can find them here: https://about.thiswillbeu.com/terms-and-conditions/. Depending on what you've booked with us, it will dictate what our changes and cancellation policies are. BUT, we always try to accommodate a change so your journey continues to be stress free.

  • Will the accommodation included meet local health and safety regulations?

Absolutely. We support local accommodation providers who offer an unique and community driven stay - and all are vetted to ensure you get the very best experience!

The perfect way to explore

12-Oct-2023

Overall, I would highly recommend U to anyone looking for a backpacking holiday up the East Coast of Australia. The experience was well-organized, fun, and offered a great mix of adventure and relaxation. It was the perfect way to explore one of the most beautiful parts of the world, and I can't wait to go back.

The staff at U were incredibly friendly and helpful!

12-Oct-2023

From the start, the staff at U were incredibly friendly and helpful. They provided us with all the information we needed to make the most of our trip, including tips on where to find the best local food, the best bars, and the most exciting activities. The itinerary was well-planned and allowed us to see some of the most beautiful and exciting places along the East Coast. We started in Sydney and traveled up to Cairns, stopping at iconic destinations such as Byron Bay, Fraser Island, and the Great Barrier Reef.

It was just awesome...!

12-Oct-2023

My 3 friends and I went on U's 22-day trip to Australia and it was just awesome. On the trip we had a local guide, and he was just cool. From day one everyone in the group was just friends thanks to our sweet guide! The whole trip was absolutely amazing, and I highly recommend Australia! But the best part was throwing ourselves on the waves with surfboard! Surfing is the wildest and Australia just had the wildest setting for it!
