What do you love most about Guatemala?

"It’s such a diverse country! From ancient Mayan ruins to lakes, waterfalls, jungles, volcanoes, beaches… the list goes on! It has something for everyone."

A 'MUST' whilst you're there?

"One of our FAVOURITE things we did was climbing the Acatanengo volcano. It’s an overnight hike and we were literally camping next to an erupting volcano 🤯"

@the5050lifestyle's Top Tips

"Make sure you give yourself enough time to see everything Guatemala has to offer. We spent 4 weeks here but we could have spent another 2 weeks easily!"

Must pack items for Guatemala

"A pair of shoes that are suitable for hiking and getting wet. We LOVE our Teva hurricanes and would 100% recommend them to anyone!"

What is Guatemala like to travel as a backpacker?

"It’s a well-travelled backpacker route so it’s super easy! The main method of transport is group shuttles. The hostels are some of the best we’ve ever stayed in & easy to meet people."

Hobbiton in Guatemala? Sure! Why not...

"Being a massive LOTR fan, I was in my element. If you are in Antigua, definitely check out this spot! The views are unbelievable and you get to geek out for a few hours."

A 'MUST' whilst you're there?

"There are lots of activities to do there, such as archery, axe throwing, machete throwing, a bungee rope swing and crazy golf! All while exploring the various viewpoints and hobbit holes."

What do you love most about Hobbitenango?

"Apart from the obvious LOTR spots and activities, the views are quite simply stunning. If you get lucky like we did, you can see Acetenango and an erupting Fuego."

@callander_shaun's Top Tips

"It can get quite busy so it is best to go in the morning. If it's not already included in your tour, you can book directly through Hobbitenango's office in Antigua, as we did, or make your own way there by Uber/taxi."

Is Hobbitenango worth visiting?

"It definitely is! It's a short 30-minute drive and you can choose a time slot to come back. There are a lot of fun activities and a beautiful area to explore. Your Guatemalan Shire experience awaits..."

Why is it called the Mayan Face Mirador?

"From a distance, this unique rock formation looks like a Mayan lying down facing the sky. When visiting the lake, you can see this from most spots around San Pedro and San Juan."

How's the trek to the top?

"It's an early rise and for the most part a dark walk. Our group all had their phone torches on! Once you do reach the top it is totally worth it, this view of the lake will stay with me forever."

What do you love most about Mayan Face Mirador?

"Once you are at the top and the sun has begun to rise, you will get an incredible view of the lake and the surrounding volcanoes. The guide will also start making some coffee, perfect spot for it!"

A 'MUST' whilst you're there?

"After enjoying some coffee, it's great to have a look around at the views of the surrounding towns of San Pedro and San Juan. The rolling clouds slowly disappear and give you breathtaking views."

Is visiting the Mayan Face Mirador worth it?

"Absolutely! The walk is not difficult, the views speak for themselves and by the time you are walking back down, the sun will have risen and you will hopefully get to see the rays splitting the trees!"
