Tour Overview

Paris marks the beginning and the end of your journey - and in between lies beautiful Normandy. Here you can adjust to peace and pure nature. And history! So it goes - passing Les Andelys, Caudebec-en-Caux, blooming meadows and dense forests - to Rouen, the 2,000-year-old capital of Normandy. Rouen is known on the one hand for its many church towers and half-timbered houses, on the other hand the city is associated with its national hero Johanna of Orléans, who ended her life here at the stake in 1431. It is definitely exciting to immerse yourself in Rouen's history in one of the many museums. In Vernon you will find a lot of rest and tranquillity - for example in the famous garden of Claude Monet or in the huge park of the gorgeous Château de Bizy - before Paris makes the Grande Finale. With even more culture. À bientôt!

Highlights

  • An in-depth exploration of the treasures of the Seine with optional visits to the Normandy coast or Monet's Garden at Giverny

  • Spend 2 nights in Paris where there is always something new to discover

  • Rouen- See one of the world’s oldest astronomical clocks and with just one hand - for the hour; minutes and seconds just weren’t so important back then

  • Caudebec-en-Caux- A chance to explore traditional French life without the hustle and bustle of the city, the soaring Notre Dame church is a must-visit, and its location, with the Brotonne forest on its doorstep means you'll never be too far from a beautiful view

  • Les Andelys- Expect a tranquil spot to explore today, but with a no less significant place in history. Perched on the hillside are the remarkable ruins of Château Gaillard which are open to explore at certain times of the year

Itinerary

Day 1 : St. Denis (Paris)

Location: Paris

Say bon voyage to day-to-day life for a few days, and hello to the fabled River Seine. Your journey will begin in 'The City of Light', Paris and explore northern France. A wealth of cosmopolitan cities, towns and heart-melting landscapes await you. You’ll also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the French 'joie de vivre', of course. And Paris? We'll put you right at the heart of the action – perfect for discovering the beauty of this romantic city. Welcome aboard!

ARR - | DEP 19:00

Day 2 : Days 2-3 Rouen

Location: Rouen

You'll quickly lose track of time in Normandy’s capital. But you’re reminded of it again by the 600-year-old ‘Big Clock’. One of the world’s oldest astronomical clocks and with just one hand - for the hour; minutes and seconds just weren’t so important back then. With this laid-back attitude in mind, the best way to while away time here is to stroll towards the centre past the medieval timber-framed houses. Rouen goes by several names – ‘The Gothic City’ and ‘The City of 100 Bell Towers’ among them. Rouen Cathedral is partly responsible for both. Thanks to the work of Claude Monet, this Gothic masterpiece is recognised across the world. And there’s something else this city is known for too. Rouen is where the ashes of a peasant’s daughter were scattered into the Seine in an attempt to prevent a martyr cult from developing around the young woman who was burned at the stake here in 1431. The name of this woman? Joan of Arc.

Day 4 : Caudebec-En-Caux

Location: Caudebec-en-Caux

Our port on the Seine today is laidback Caudebec-en-Caux. This tranquil little town is located in the heart of Normandy with its impressive Brotonne Bridge stretching over its part of the river. A chance to explore traditional French life without the hustle and bustle of the city, the soaring Notre Dame church is a must-visit, and its location, with the Brotonne forest on its doorstep means you'll never be too far from a beautiful view.

ARR 00:30 | DEP 22:00

Day 5 : Les Andelys-Vernon

Location: Les Andelys, Vernon

The pleasingly petite town of Les Andelys is set in one of the most picturesque patches of the Seine. Expect a tranquil spot to explore today, but with a no less significant place in history. Perched on the hillside are the remarkable ruins of Château Gaillard which are open to explore at certain times of the year. This vast complex was where Richard the Lionheart kept watch for the advance of the enemy - the French - through the Seine valley and towards Rouen.

ARR 08:00 | DEP 12:00

Today will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your Seine voyage: you’ll have the opportunity to visit Claude Monet’s famous house and garden in Giverny. It is a magnet for art and culture lovers and those of a romantic inclination – and rightly so. The verdant garden looks like a meadow of dancing flowers straight off the canvas of an impressionist painting. The highlight is the magical lily pond, the subject of one of the world’s most valuable paintings. And you’ll be able to admire it up close – savour every moment.

ARR 14:30 | DEP -

We slip our mooring in Vernon before breakfast and spend an idyllic day cruising towards Paris. A grand history of French art, royalty can be observed from the passing towns and villages as well as more modern industry and the bustle of river life. Enjoy these sights and sounds in the sun deck, relaxing with your favourite drink.

ARR - | DEP 05:00

Day 6 : Days 6-7 St. Denis (Paris)

Location: Paris

Even if you’ve never been to Paris before, we're sure you'll feel like you recognise every corner of this iconic city. Countless films, books, paintings, poems and songs have been set in and inspired by the city of love. Yet there’s always more to uncover. The fashion capital of the world, a mecca of art and culture, a shining light for gourmets and a metropolis for media, education and political and economic power – Paris is all of this and then some. The 'City of Lights' has a beauty which never fades. The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, Madeleine, Opéra, Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre, Louvre, Dôme des Invalides and Centre Pompidou are sure to be high on your list, and we can't wait to show you around.

ARR 18:00 | DEP -

Day 8 : St. Denis (Paris)

Location: Paris

Today you'll say goodbye to your elegant A-ROSA ship here in 'The City of Light'. We hope you've enjoyed every sophisticated second on the Seine.

The Market Restaurant

The Market Restaurant is the ship’s Dining Room (no table reservations needed). It has an open kitchen and Buffet station. The A-ROSA VIVA’s dining room menu features low-calorie, itinerary-based (regional) specialties and traditional Mediterranean dishes. Food on board is prepared with fresh locally sourced ingredients and products.Dining is a truly un-regimented affair – unlike other river vessels, the dining room opens its welcoming arms when you are ready, rather than at a specified time. A lavish buffet with a la minute cookery stations° entices you with fresh ingredients and plenty of choice. In addition, a speciality waiter service restaurant offers an alternative option, with a new menu every night and the opportunity to dine here up to three times during the week. Weather permitting, you can choose to dine al fresco around pool as you watch the beautiful scenery pass by.On some evenings, served onboard will be a themed 3-course-dinner in a reserved part of the restaurant. A-ROSA advises guests to sign up for this evening at the reception or with the Maître as seats are limited. On these evenings, the buffet restaurant is also open as usual. The themed evenings are at an extra charge.

There is a spacious sun deck with a relaxed atmosphere, sufficient recliners, sunshades and awnings. Also on board shuffleboard, putting green and giant chess board.

Sun Deck

Time on the sun deck can be measured in sunsets, laps in the pool, glasses of wine or the number of new friends you’ve made. But for most, time just stands still as you take in Europe’s fabled towns and picturesque countryside from your chaise lounge. The motto topside on the sun deck is “anything is possible, but nothing is required… just enjoy.”

Experience our bike packages on the Danube, Rhine, Douro, Rhône and Seine specially created together with our partner terranova. Terranova offers high-quality bike tours for over 35 years. Explore the heart of Europe by bike during your river cruise.

A-ROSA is Green

For over fifteen years, A-ROSA has been the market leader for premium holidays on the Danube, Douro, Rhine, Rhône and Seine. What is it that makes city breaks by ship so appealing? The opportunity for guests to discover different cities, towns and landscapes. For us it’s a privilege to be able to explore iconic destinations and lesser-known locales – and we love to share it with our guests. While we will always do all we can to give our guests a care free holiday, we will always care aboutthe people and places our visits touch. Our cruises take us right into areas where people live, which is one of the reasons why inland navigation is subject to very strict regulations – particularly compared with navigation at sea – and rigorous inspections. As a recent study shows, all things considered, inland navigation is the most environmentally friendly mode of transport, surpassing even train travel. The factors taken into account for the study included impact on the climate, air pollution, accidents and noise pollution. At A-ROSA we’re aware that past and present environmental challenges require a long-term approach. That’s the only way we’ll be able to preserve both quality of life in urban areas and the natural environment for future generations. As a company we believe that this is our responsibility, and our actions in all areas of environmental protection put us at the very forefront of our industry.Lasting responsibility: As part of our sustainability strategy, we review and refine the actions listed here on an ongoing basis.

Wonderful Danube River Cruise on the A-Rosa Donna!

26-Jul-2023

Our party of 4 (2 couples) thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful week on the A-Rosa Donna, Danube river cruise. All the crew from the cleaners to the Captain were first class, all so friendly and helpful, making our holiday a very special time. All the food was excellent, such a variety every day and a great selection of drinks too. We would like to make a special mention to the dining/drinks crew members who went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed during our stay, they were brilliant! We have already recommended this holiday to family and friends and will definitely be booking future river cruises with A-Rosa. Thank you!

Romantic Cruise

20-Sep-2023

The crew were fantastic and several went above and beyond. Too many to mention but special thanks to Umat, Stefanie, Ruta and Can. It was our Golden Wedding Anniversary and the Maitre de gave us a table for dinner in the reserved area with linen tablecloth, napkins and roses Also Didi the chambermaid did a wonderful display using the towels in our cabin and rose petals. Certainly a cruise to remember
