Day 1 : Welcome

Location: Swansea, Dylan Thomas Centre

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: No Meals

Arrive in the seaside city of Swansea. Your home for the night is a luxurious boutique hotel, in the heart of the city centre.

This afternoon choose to take a walk around Swansea botanical gardens or pay a visit to the Dylan Thomas centre and learn about Wales’s most famous poet, whose hometown of Laugharne you’ll be visiting later in your trip.

Fuel up with a good dinner this evening, your South Wales Cycling adventure begins tomorrow morning when you leave the city behind and head into the more rural parts of South Wales’ coast!

Day 2 : Get Set Go, Gower

Location: Llangennith, Rhossili bay Beach

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before setting off on your bike. With the city and your luggage left behind, your journey begins, following the coastline through the stunning Gower Peninsula, the UK’s first ever designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Don’t worry, your luggage will soon catch you up as daily luggage transfers are provided, ensuring you needn’t carry anything more than your day pack.

The Gower Peninsula is a paradise for wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled as Razorbills, Cormorants and occasionally Puffins can be spotted along the coast, as well as dolphins in the warmer months.

Continue on to the iconic Rhossili beach. From here you can see the iconic Worm’s Head rock promontory rising majestically from the sea. Rhossili village is the perfect place to pause for a Welsh dairy ice cream and a chance to savour the view.
Arrive into the small village of Llangennith, ready to hop off your bike and put your feet up. Your home for the night is a 17th Century inn, an impressive stone building with cosy rooms and a welcoming pub.

Day 3 : Wildlife Spotting & Historical Sights

Location: Ferryside

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today’s stretch of cycle path takes you across the River Loughor and along the coast. Riding on through the wetland conservation area of Llanelli, rich in wildlife, this area has reaped the benefits of ongoing conservation projects and is now a thriving home for creatures big and small.

Travelling onwards, choose to stop and visit the impressive Kidwelly Castle. A Norman Castle built in the 11th century, the castle overlooks the River Gwendraeth and the pretty town of Kidwelly.

Continuing on along the estuary where the Rivers Towy and Taf meet, reach your overnight accommodation in Ferryside. Kick back and treat yourself to a well-deserved evening meal.

Day 4 : Carmarthen Calling

Location: Saint Clears

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

With a tasty breakfast devoured it’s time to begin the next leg of your journey. With a shorter distance to cover today, take the opportunity to stop along the banks of the River Towy where you will likely spot local fishermen fishing for river trout. Continue on into the Roman market town of Carmarthen and explore its narrow streets. Where better to pause and whet your whistle than at Carmarthen’s Plume of Feathers, reputedly the smallest pub in Wales!
Today’s ride concludes in the rural town of St Clears. Staying in a converted coach house on a working farm, rest your legs whilst tucking into a delicious dinner prepared. There’s even a spa on site - with a little forward planning to book ahead, it could be just the place for a rejuvenating mid-trip massage!

Day 5 : Discover Poetry, Foodie Delights And Castles In Laugharne

Location: Saundersfoot

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

After breakfast it’s back on your bike as you rejoin the scenic coastal path and head towards Laugharne, famously home to world-renowned poet Dylan Thomas. His beloved family home, the Boathouse, is now a wonderful tearoom, perfect for a mid-morning break and a chance to indulge in a delicious warm Welsh cake or a slice of freshly baked Bara Brith. Dylan was known to hide out near the town’s mighty mediaeval castle, also well worth a visit as you pass through this fascinating town.
As you continue toward the seaside town of Saundersfoot, you’ll pass the beautiful Telpyn beach, framed by dramatic coastal cliffs and pebble banks, a real treat for the eyes. A little further along this beautiful stretch of coastline on your South Wales coastal cycling adventure, you’ll arrive in Saundersfoot. Your home away from home is a peaceful family-run inn with panoramic views of the seaside.

Day 6 : Just Keep Going, It's Getting Better

Location: Pembroke

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today’s cycle takes you into the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, pedalling along the world-famous coast and taking in the breathtaking cliff-top views. Tenby’s pastel-coloured seafront homes are recognised the world over, not least thanks to it being home to Ironman Wales for over a decade. Steeped in history and surrounded by an imposing mediaeval stone wall, Tenby’s maze of narrow streets is well worth an explore.
Continue on your self-guided bike ride, passing through more cute Welsh villages, many with their own little coves and bays. With a small detour you can stop to visit the iconic village of Freshwater East, with lots of options for refreshments, it won’t be hard to find a Welsh cake or a good portion of locally caught fish & chips!
Finish today’s cycle in the town of Pembroke, the birthplace of Henry Tudor. This Norman settlement is now a colourful town, boasting one of Wales’ most impressive castles. Settle in for the night in a traditional coach house and enjoy a well-earned opportunity to put your feet up after a big day in the saddle.

Day 7 : Pause For A Dip At One Of Wales’ Biggest & Best Beaches

Location: St Davids

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Your final day of cycling along the coast of South Wales takes you through some of the most stunning scenery in Pembrokeshire. Cycle over farmland and through picturesque villages until you reach Haverfordwest, the most populous town in Pembrokeshire.

From here your route heads back to the coast once again, leading you alongside almost 2 miles of beautiful golden beach at Newgale Sands. With its Blue Flag status, the clear blue water makes it the perfect stop for a mid-ride ocean dip.
Cycle into St David’s, situated at the most westerly point of Wales and where your South Wales coastal cycling adventure reaches its end. Local produce abounds in this tiny seaside city, so how better to celebrate your amazing achievement than with a delicious dinner in Britain’s smallest city and the final resting place of the Patron Saint of Wales.

Check out our Q&As

  • Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

All of our accommodation is priced on a shared basis so, as a solo traveller we’ll match you up with a like-minded, same-sex travel partner. You’ll both benefit from avoiding unnecessary single supplement charges and you might just spark up a friendship that lasts beyond the length of your trip. if you do prefer to have your own private room, that can usually be accommodated. If it’s a room for on

  • What does 'fully supported mean?

When we talk about fully-supported adventures, this means we’ve made everything as simple as possible for you. We take care of your accommodation for the duration of your trip and provide all the transport you need within the UK. We also make all the arrangements necessary for your chosen activities.

  • How many other people will be in my group?

Typically our groups are between 8 and 15 people. Of course when we’re dealing with specific activities such as mountain biking or hiking, we always work within the recognised guiding ratios. So for example, our mountain bike adventures will never exceed 8 guests in total.

  • I'm making my own way to the start point of your tour. How do I know where to go?

If you plan to arrive by train, please contact us for information on the closest main line station to your tour start location. You’re welcome to arrange your own transfers or we will make arrangements on your behalf if preferred. If you plan to drive and need a suitable location to leave your car, please contact our team for recommendations on the best location to head for.

  • Are you adventures suitable for children?

Our adventure packages are all aimed at adults aged 18 years or over. This is partly because many activities have height or age restrictions and we found that trying to factor this in when crafting our experiences, limited what we could include. Our aim is to deliver the best of the best in each region, so we weren’t comfortable with compromising the activities we could offer.

A brilliant weekend in Wales hill running! Was apprehensive as I am the wrong side of 60 but Tim was an excellent coach and full of useful information and tips on techniques and nutrition. The hotel was excellent and the weather played it’s part! I would recommend this trip to others.

08-Sep-2022

I went on the surf/ yoga retreat in wales and it was the most refreshing and adventurous break I’ve had in a long time! We had an amazing host- Sarah who took care of us the whole trip. She was so personable and made us all feel very relaxed! The surf instructor Don was fabulous who took the time to help us battle the waves and the yoga instructor Remi was equally as great. It was a perfect balance of activity/ relaxation. St.David’s is also a lovely little place. The hotel was lovely, especially the breakfast:) I would definitely recommend this trip and will be booking with them again in the future! Thank you so much team!!

Glorious Welsh trails!

14-Sep-2022

My second private trail running weekend with Adventure Tours. This time we were a group of six. Another brilliant experience of fantastic hill running, great organisation and accommodation. Particular mention for our running guide, Tim for his expertise, support and unfailing patience, with great advice to take home and put into practice. We had a lot of fun on the ups and the downs. Hoping to do it all again next year!
