Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1 : Arrive Yangon
Location: Yangon
Upon arrival, a representative will be waiting to greet you at the airport. Ensure that your flight lands before 9:00 in the morning to allow time for all sightseeing activities. Start with a visit to Yangon city centre; the tour will encompass various colonial-style buildings, City Hall and the Independence Monument. After lunch in the city, follow your guide for a visit of Bogyoke Aung San Market, the largest market in Yangon. There will be plenty of time to browse the hundreds of stalls for souvenirs and bargains. In the early evening, enjoy a guided visit of Shwedagon Pagoda, the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar and one of the most famous pagodas in the world. The 99-metre tall structure is covered in gold leaf and surrounded by 64 other smaller stupas. Walk around the complex with your guide and discover why this sanctuary is so well loved. Later in the evening, you are free to enjoy some leisure time in the city. Perhaps take a walk to Chinatown, where you can see many street vendors and sample a variety of different local products and tropical fruits.
Overnight in Yangon.
Day 2 : Yangon – Kyaikhtiyo (200Km - 5 Hrs, By Train)
Location: Kin Pun Sakhan
After an early breakfast, a representative will transfer you to Yangon Central Railway Station to catch the 7:00 am train to Kyaiktiyo, where the Golden Rock awaits. Today you will experience a taste of authentic life in Myanmar: enjoy the amazing views while sharing the journey with local people and sampling local food. The Golden Rock, or Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, is a colossal rock topped with a pagoda, precariously perched on the edge of the hillside and covered in gold leaf. It is one of the three most sacred religious sites in Myanmar and legend says that the rock itself is perched on a strand of the Buddha’s hair. You will arrive in Kyaiktiyo Train Station at midday and then you will board a public bus with your guide to take you to Kinpun Base Camp. From the base camp, take a local open-top truck up Mount Kyaiktiyo to the station located at the foot of the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel and enjoy the stunning beauty of the pagoda at night.
Overnight in Kyaiktiyo.
Day 3 : Kyaikhtiyo – Yangon (200Km - 5 Hrs, By Train)
Location: Yangon
Wake up early and enjoy watching the mist evaporating and the sun rising up over the Golden Rock. This is a truly wonderful and spiritual sight. A visit to the Golden Rock is a must for all devout Buddhists, so you can expect to see a colourful mix of pilgrims, monks and nuns here. Watch the constant stream of devotees as they cross the small bridge to the rock, pray and apply gold leaf to the surface of the rock. After sunrise, return to the hotel for breakfast. At around 10:00, take a local truck back down to base camp where you will catch a bus to the train station in time for the 14:00 train. The train ride back to Yangon passes through fantastic scenery dotted with small rural villages and rice paddies. Upon arrival in Yangon Railway Station, you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure in the city, soaking up the unique atmosphere of the largest city in Myanmar.
